GTAV - What game are all these people playing?

What's with V and getting stuck with the corners of the car? The game was really easy and forgiving otherwise but man was that frustrating some times.

Yeah the GTA games never grabbed me with the amalgamation of systems thrown together for passively gameplay everything feels off in those games.

Do you have black bars on your TV OP?

@OP
The streets are about 4 times wider than any road in GTA IV and the car handling improved a lot. The cars in GTA IV felt like you're driving a boat. Please don't mix up your own inability to play with the quality of the game! The things you criticize are actually the best we had in the series... and regarding your text and reticle problem: Do you have an HD-TV?

I played gta4 again the weekend before launch.

Felt like a washing machine on wheels to me.

Now GTA5 is out and reviewers and players alike say its the best game ever made. What will happen after some time....

I seriously doubt that will happen to GTAV, the game is pretty much the culmination of everything GTA promised to be but never quite managed. There are issues and some limitations, but they are relatively minor. I think this will go down as one of the best games this gen. and rightly so.

They already made the car handling easier to appease the crybabies. It's because of players like the OP that so many companies insist on dumbing down their games and handholding players to a ridiculous degree.

um... I HATED the driving in gta4, felt like cars had no power steering, or brake pads. I think the handling in gta5 is much better, still a bit realistic for the masochists out there, but not just unfun like 4 was. Also the city isn't all grid work city streets like liberty city which makes the driving nicer, still a few cars that control like ass but that's by design, or reel wheel drive.

I figured that out (had not played IV before V) but they made it easier to hit and get stopped by things. It takes way longer to lose cops aswell.

Edit: Anyway; IV is a nightmare compared to V.

I hated the aiming. Complex option fixed some of it, but there are some sights (pistols, not sure what others) where I couldn't see where the hell I was shooting because it was so faint and the aliasing was so bad

I'm one of the biggest anti-IV driving people and I love the car handling in 5. It definitely takes a little bit of adjustment but within the first couple of hours I was a pro already. I barely used Franklin's special ability because I was so good at driving already.

The plane and heli controls deserve more ridicule. If they could take out the turbulence it wouldn't be anywhere near as bad as it is now.

Nice try getting the after-hype GTA hate train going early, but I don't think that is going to work (yet). :P

The points you make are pretty weak anyway. Car-handling is great (and having the perfect arcade-like handling you want would make the game less fun imo). Cross hair is small indeed, I'll give you that, but the shooting mechanics themselves are fine and as you mentioned yourself; the traditional auto-aim should do the job just fine if free-aim isn't functioning to your liking. Last off, I have a small TV yet can read the text perfectly fine. There is either something wrong with your eyes, resolution or settings. Or all three of those.

And those three small complaints add up to an almost unplayable game and a sensationalist thread-title like that? Talking about hyperboles. And because of the horrible gameplay you're going to wait for Beyond instead? I mean, I loved Heavy Rain, but that last sentence you wrote is pretty ironic considering I'd call gameplay the least impressive aspect of Mr. Cage's games. ;)

Driving a car should require a minimum of concentration, that's what makes it satisfying to me. I don't want it to be too videogamey, they already made enough sacrifices with V. You can magically flip your car around for God's sake.

The only thing to legitimately complain about is the online experience. Sorry if you can't see past the driving and aiming reticle. Weird thread. Guess you don't enjoy the genre much.

Sell it on Amazon, they are offering 55 bucks I think. Later.

No one said anything about dumbing down. Its about being good and fun. Right now the cars are floating on ice.

Without trying to insult you OP do you have a problem with your eyesight or is your TV just really small? I'm perfectly fine with the text & reticule, if anything I find the shooting too easy, Helicopter's in particular are an absolute joke now you can hit he pilots so easily.

His grenade tossing skills are remarkable. This is freaking awesome.

I think it is actually the sticky bombs. And he detonates it in rage of the vehicles.

Funny. People said IV handling was like driving on ice. Less posting more driving. You will get better and better and then it will click and you will be performing crazy as shit.

I was really turned off by the car handling at first, but after a mission or two it feels so perfectly natural and just 'right.' I don't know, I have no problem handling the cars at high speeds weaving in and out of traffic, something must have just clicked in my brain, and it's a damn blast.

I had the same problem with aiming, but just changed the settings to complex, and now very rarely can't see the reticle.

Love this game.

Car handling is fine, but even with the complex weapon targeting the pistol and submachine guns are still VERY faint and hard to see against bright backgrounds or during the day.

The majority seem to be loving this game past the point of no return (GOTG thrown around a lot), so your criticisms will be an uphill battle. There's still a lot wrong with character movement, combat, and controls IMO, among other issues I have, and I feel a lot is being forgiven, but GTA gonna GTA.

Am I the only one who doesn't suck at driving in IV and V?

dunno but i put some hours into IV(4) and always felt like i couldn't drive for shit... In V(5) I feel like i was solid from the start and have steadily improved. I can thread the space between two cars on the highway at hight speed, i can make corners, i feel like i have much better control overall in V(5).

I also like that I know and can tell that I'm much better at driving certain types of cars because i'm familiar with their handling. good feedback gamewise.

Am I the only one who doesn't suck at driving in IV and V?

Nope, I do pretty well. Granted, for me there was a pretty robust learning curve with GTA IV. I remember for the few days I played it, I was pretty much convinced that it was not possible to drive from A to B without totally fucking up your car on the way. It took a fair bit of practice before I felt comfortable with it. But by the time I finished my first play through, I knew it was the best driving in almost any game I've ever played. Including some dedicated racing games.

The first day or two that I played GTA V, I was really disappointed in the driving. I remember thinking "So those people who got it early weren't actually trolling... they really did dumb the driving down to Saints Row/Sleeping Dogs levels of mediocrity. Damn shame." It literally felt dumbed down to me, like it was difficult to make a mistake or something. Like it had some kind of new subtle drive-assist system. Again, all it took was some getting used to. It's actually nowhere near as bad as SR/SD etc. It just isn't quite as empowering and awesome as GTA IV.

EDIT: And after finishing the game and starting over from the beginning, it was really obvious to me that increasing the driving skill stat + upgrading cars does make a noticeable difference and improves the driving considerably.

1. Car handling levels up as in San Andreas. In case you forgot, that game had more floaty controls compared to Vice City and GTA3 until you leveled up your driving skill. Then it was tight and more responsive. I remember lots of people complaining about the driving in SA when it first came out, not as much as GTA4, but still there were complaints.

Level up your driving, problem solved.

2. Shooting mechanics are much better. The only time I have issues seeing the reticle is when trying to shoot while driving. Outside of vehicles it seems fine.

3. Never had a problem with the text, get your eyes checked.

I think the game is fantastic so far. I do have minor complaints. Like having to hold X to jog? why? makes getting around on foot tedious. dying is too easy to do imo. especially with the reliance on the not always great cover system and the game wanting you to play with autoaim.

driving is easy as shit. took me a bit to get the feel for it. but now i can dodge traffic like a boss

I rented the game and put about 3 hours into it the other day, and to be quite honest I couldn't see myself having any more fun with it than I did with GTA IV (which was pretty bad). Now I know that I "barely scratched the surface" of a game like GTA V, and multiple people have told me to wait until I try a heist or two first. However, when I put 3 hours into a game and all I come away with is frustration and boredom, then I think it makes sense for me to return the rental and never bother with the game again.

Here are the things that really irked me about the game:

1. The aiming/shooting system is just as retarded as it ever was. Fine, it was slightly better than the one in GTA IV and RDR, but it still felt super painful to use. The free aim is pretty assy and all I ended up doing was quickly tapping L2 and R2 in succession to lock onto all the enemies and kill them.

2. The missions were just as bland as they could possibly get. They all devolve into "drive to X kill Y escape Z," or "drive to X chase Y pick up and deliver Z," or "kill X drive to Y kill Z," and so on and so forth. I feel like a glorified delivery man rather than any kind of mobster or criminal.

3. The "shooting while driving" mechanic is absolutely, totally, 100% stupid. The way it was handled in Sleeping Dogs was fantastic - time slows down, you can stop worrying about driving the car, and instead focus on the aiming. In GTA V you have to maintain your speed and your control of the car while also lining up your shot with this game's shitty-to-begin-with aiming system and then fire at a moving target. And in the 3 hours I played I had to do this TWICE. Seriously, fuck that noise.

4. This is probably a side effect of having a large open world, and as such is probably unavoidable, but there are quite a few random scenarios that you can happen on due to the number of moving parts in the world. You're driving on your merry way then some car randomly decides to swerve right, so you try to avoid it and instead run over a pedestrian, which alerts the nearby cop, which starts a chase, which leads to a massive dash in the opposite direction to your mission. Once you finally lose the cops you now have to drive all the way back to where you started before this all happened.

I don't know, I guess GTA games are just no longer for me. I never understood all the praise from reviewers for GTA IV, and I sure as hell don't understand all the praise for GTA V either.

I find flying planes easy too. Helicopters are a pain in the ass though. And turbulence offers nothing but a bit off annoyance. Plying the stunt plane is godly.

I got pretty pro with the helicopters in single player. You have to let the copter to some of the work for you when maneuvering through tight spaces. Now I just need to build my online characters skill up in that area to get the same results.

Sounds like you just need glasses, and some basic motor skills.

I haven't had a single mechanical issue with the game. I could see the story not being everyone's cup of tea, but you are definitely in the minority that thinks there is anything wrong with the way the game handles.

As Franklin you can slow down time and shoot while driving. Also, for attacking people in cars, instead of trying to shoot the driver. I find it a lot easier to just shoot the tires so they spin out and get out of the car. Getting those headshots is really satisfying though.

I find that hard to believe.
I've played a lot of games where text size was a common complaint and never had a problem, but in gtav, can't see shit captain.

Don't know what to say, I had subtitles on the whole time and never had a problem with the font size for any part of the game. In the OTs there's debate over driving (too loose, not loose enough, etc), how broken the online is, the pacing of the narrative and so one, but I haven't seen anyone complain about the text size. Just wonder if there's an issue with the settings or something.

The car handling is very sensitive. But as you play the game more you get used to it. I really like it now.

But day one... my twitter feed was a whole bunch of "WHAT THE FUCK HOW HAVE THE NOT FIXED THE DRIVING OMGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG."

Driving seems infinitely easier to me, far better than IV.

I agree about text though, it looks small to me and i'm certainly no Mr Magoo.

I struggled to get into IV, and the early hours of V felt similar, but now i'm hooked.

It gets better more hours in and using all 3 chars. I think it's better than IV which I have yet to complete including DLC.
