“Release Overview
Halloween has a long history in Tyria, and in times past was always marked by the spirit of Mad King Thorn cavorting among the people unleashing his own brand of insanity. However, it’s been over 250 years since he was last seen, and for most people he is merely a figure of folklore. Despite this, rumors persist among the populace that something wicked this way comes.
Shadow of the Mad King is the first major game release for Guild Wars 2 and will go live on October 22. This new game update will include a number of new features for all of our players to enjoy, new content to explore and see, and a week-long Halloween event.”

A Scary Story in Several ActS

Within the world of Tyria, something evil and wicked this way comes. Starting October 22nd, the patch will kick off the event as things go down. Then on October 26th, another ghoulish tale will emerge. On October 28th, things will really get chilling. Then it will culminate on October 31st for a frightfully scary climax to the story!

The world continues to evolve with new events, jumping puzzles, bosses, mini-dungeons, and achievements appearing across a variety of maps. It’s heavily speculated that one of the new jumping puzzles is Halloween based, and a dev has gone on record to say one of them is akin to trying to beat a Super Meat Boy level. How delightfully scary.

Black Lion Trading Company Items (Oct 22 to Nov 5)

In the Gem Store, you will see new items added including Costumes that allow you to engage in Costume Brawl, where abilities from the costumes let you playfight with your friends! LOG ON DURING THE EVENT TO RECEIVE FREE DEVIL HORNS! The Black Lion Trading Chests themselves will contain frightfully new items, including NEW UNIQUE HALLOWEEN SKINS, like this GREATSWORD CHAINSAW MASSACRE:

Paid sPVP Tournaments

Up until now, you’ve just been PVPing with no real purpose on those point maps. Now, with the release of PVP Paid Tournaments, you’ll be able to earn stuff like gems and lots of other neat prizes! You can earn the tickets to the Paid tournaments by playing normal games! People who participate here can participate in much larger, amazing future tournaments using point ranking systems!

Hyped so much for this, started really getting back into GW2 a couple of weeks ago so it's great that Shadow of the Mad King's on the way.
 
Hrm. I am contemplating creating characters to do the story quest up until you get a black lion key and then deleting them and redoing it. At what point does the story give you a key? Like level 10?

This sounds interesting, not to mention there's no level requirement for the story quests, so you could get an 80 friend to just do the level 10 quest with you while you're level 1.

Leveling to 10 normally will take far too long, you'd probably make more money to buy the keys via converting to gems during the time it'd take to level.

and hopefully some spvp once this patch pushes thru.. been meaning to do that anyways, but it seems with all the new content (And probable class changes), after patch would be a great time to hop on in

Not really, it's ~65s per 100 gems, 1 key is 150 gems (more cost efficient to buy 5 for 450)

Right now 1 key = 1g 3s, it'll take you more than 10 levels to gain 1g and also you don't have to be 10 to do that story mission, you can do it as soon as you can beat the ones before it.

Sorry, I should of specified that if you were to farm and do events in Orr, you'd make more more money and be able to convert to gems and buy the keys and take less time than it would take to make the character and level to 10.

I'm planning on buying some because they will eventually be used for Polymock (which is their version of Pokemon).
 
I wonder, if the new items in the BL chests will apply only to newly dropped ones or if it'll effect the 50 i have sitting in my storage...

They'd miss a golden chance if they limit it to halloween chest drops. Imagine everyone has quite a few chests in their bank.
 
time to buy 5k black lion chests again!

am prepared to drop some cash if the items are cool enough.

oh ffs, i said that tongue in cheek and people really are buying those in mass lol.
 
I've been having a problem staying connected in this game lately. Can't wait to try tomorrow with the new events and such.

It's a separate loot table man. All they have to do is edit the loot table and everyone you open after a patch is golden. Just hold 'em and wait. :)
 
Just reached max level on Suterday and took 4 more extra levels beyond. Now I'm bathering money to buy gems to get extra bank slots for the alts, while farming at the same time to complete my crafting.

This Halloween patch seems to... limited... How much of it will stay after the HW weak ends?

Also I would apreciate if they made the dungeons more enjoyable (Enemies not having a much health). They said that they would keep working on the dungeons to keep them enjoiable, so I believe they'll eventually do it.

Also Also... What is the guest server system and when is it going to be implemented?
I have tons of friends in other servers and I can't play with them because changing server costs money and I have lots of friends in my current server as well!
 
Will play for the dynamic events, but I never could get into dungeons. Too frustrating and too much of a time sink for such little reward.

the dungeons are easy imo. well the ones i have done. gaf groups tend to be pretty good as far as players.

though the reward isn't worth it if you dont want any of the toke gear, agree there. anet is addressing it though.

we skip bosses whenever we can. shit aint worth it and every boss is a damage sponge and hardly hard in terms of difficulty.

Whaaa?!?! When did this happen? Was this patched in last night or this morning? Do you have patch notes by chance? That is fucking awesome if they finally put a cost on it, it's only a sliver of the issue with WvWvW right now with the free transfers every 24 hours creating a 'server of the week' mentality but this is a small step in the right direction. Awesome.

Regarding the event, looks awesome. I am constantly surprised at how good this game looks around every corner. I'm really not looking forward to a "Super Meat Boy" style jump puzzle though, sounds vicious.

Do you have to be max level to participate in all of the events? I have a 60+ Engineer that I fucking hate and a 40~ Ranger, rest are pretty low.
