Did anybody do The Frozen Maw? I saw it idling when I was chasing Moas yesterday, and I just found out one of my buddies not in GAF did it last night. His descriptions made it sound pretty damn cool for something a newbie zone.

Glad to hear that. I could understand them keeping them somewhat tame for the starting areas. I just wasn't able to sink the time in this weekend to really get out of those areas and explore.
Ehhhh no. the art is good but the texture resolution especially on characters is low. Wow actually IS better looking textually. Gw2 still looks fantastic.
There is no chance this game comes out in November. The game is content ready obviously and the couple months they have to fine tune everything is all they will really need. After playing the game, I firmly will stick with my July estimate. I believe they are just working out the bugs of the game. Not until it's embedded in the minds of all users on GAF! Nah, I'm just really curious about other people's opinions on when the game could come out now that people had the opportunity to play it.
How is it low on any of my examples?
Even NPCs have great textures

That's MAX settings. Look at the textures on her shirt. They all look like that. shit is low res son. Now, that doesnt mean it looks BAD.
This was a good post. The game has very serious balance issues and doesn't give the player good feedback about what's killing them and how they can stop it from killing them. Some enemies just seemed to do insane damage, particularly whenever they applied a burning effect to me. Fighting multiple enemies at once is typically suicide, and the aggro system in the game feels janky and unpolished compared to standard MMO fare.
Fighting enemies with level advantages on you typically results in shitstomping of your face. This directs me to another problem: I was consistently underleveled in spite of doing every single event I could and every single area quest in TWO ZONES. I went through both the human and norn ones on my warrior and I was still underleveled. This is just fucked. The XP scaling needs to be rebalanced.
This would help with the problem of fighting enemies with level advantages, but there is still a problem with it: events tended to spawn enemies 2-3 levels higher than the listed level for the event. This is just plain unfair considering the way the game seems to give them advantages in damage. Also, scaling the player's level back to the area they are in is just plain fucking stupid. RPGs should never force that on you. It should be an option like sidekicking is in CoH/CoV.
The dodge system. It doesn't feel right. It feels laggy, it feels ineffective, I rarely know when to use it and it often doesn't work. The energy limitation on how often you can do it is very strict (probably for PvP balance purposes) which makes it feel utterly useless in PvE. Oftentimes fighting a heavily scaled up boss they will perform attacks that will instagib everyone in an AoE. In the first place, this is fucking bullshit. In the second place, they give you no indication that they are doing this whatsoever, so you don't even have a chance to avoid it even if you had somehow mastered the laggy, ineffective dodging system.
The PvE in the game just often feels unfair. You can use all your cooldowns, all of your abilities, all of your dodges and be left with nothing but an autoattack and still feel like you are insufficiently strong to handle basic challenges. There is a fine line to making a game feel challenging and making a game feel like fucking bullshit, and GW2 strays to the bullshit side. You'll find yourself in combat with enemies who respawn on your head and pound you into the dirt in seconds. You'll find yourself fighting groups of 2-3 enemies at a time that can't be split and pound you into the dirt. You'll find yourself up against veteran enemies in instances that scale your level, spawn multiple adds, and pound you into the dirt.
This isn't Dark Souls, it's a fucking MMO. I died more in this than I died playing Dark Souls because at least in that game I felt like the abilities at my disposal functioned properly and gave me a fighting chance if all fully utilized. This game just pisses me off.
I think somewhere in between August - Nov. Game wasn't as polished as I had hoped, although it's definitely pretty solid. I came across numerous performance issues/bugs/balance issues in the beta. But really we need to see just how much better the next beta is, a lot of this stuff might be easy to remedy for all I know. Not until it's embedded in the minds of all users on GAF! Nah, I'm just really curious about other people's opinions on when the game could come out now that people had the opportunity to play it.
I think he's zoomed to a reasonable level for actually playing the game. I don't know how often I'll be zoomed in to the level you are showing off the low-res textures there. And even at that level I don't think it's that bad, the hair is what stands out to be the most- but all in all I'm glad they're not devoting too many resources to that in favor of making things look nice the way you see them the majority of the time. You're zoomed pretty far out there buddy, and the fish doesn't have a particularly detailed or high res texture, it has a lot of effects and bump mapping. There's a difference.

that's not some kind of personal affront when someone says it has low res textures. It means the textures are low res. It's fine. the game is still pretty, we'll live.
Also it's worth making note that the graphical options in the beta may not actually be the max. Low and high setting didn't have a huge difference and a couple of the press in the last beta said it had had a graphical improvement over the build they played in the previous closed beta. I'm not sure if the build we saw this weekend is the build the press saw in the lest beta but I would still keep it in mind.
It's certainly possible but we have no way to know. You can absolutely see the settings change as you move the slider though, and there is a checkbox for 'high resolution textures' for players and that is definitely on. Didn't try turning it off and back to see if it was truly enabled though I guess, to compare the difference.

High quality character models are not in yet. Changing the setting did nothing.
Aye, don't forget they're implementing DX10 eventually so this will change quite a bit.

The Frozen Maw was hard as hell for melee characters so I had to abandon it halfway in since the portal near it was contested and the hassle wasn't worth it. The premise was awesome though.
There were just too many ice elementals for me to maintain my mobility and I had other shit I wanted to do. The priests and their portals were really cool.

Well...this changes EVERYTHING. So I never tried it but it seems you can right click any crafting material, cooking ingredient, or minipet and click Deposit Collectible and it'll go into your bank from anywhere in the world. For those who didn't see it, there's a specific tab built JUST for holding all crafting/cooking/minipets on your bank tab.

Small question because I'm not sure right now if I'm remembering correctly. Do player characters physically occupy the space they are in? Is there a way to form a line of warriors at the front that can not be run through by enemies?
I'm asking because I have the feeling that when I'm fighting a thief and he disappears I often feel blocked in random spots and try to do a AoE to reveal him.

Also, out of all the races, the Charr have the best DEs out of all the races. Keffex Hills has some awesome series DEs but other than that Charr is the most entertaining and fun.

I took them with FRAPS.
Someone seemed to have pulled the uncovered zone maps from the dat, but the damn resolution is tiny.
They had the same exact thing in GW1. Good to see it made its way into this game too. What they did not have was this ability to deposit into the bank from anywhere though... that would be amazing. Was that working in the beta? I completely missed it if so.I had found out about the materials tab on the first day and nearly squealed with excitement because honestly it's so simple, yet makes so much damn sense that I'd always wondered why no one else but ANet had done it outside of GW1. Here's a pic of the material storage if you didn't get to see it:
So some of you may have caught my meltdown rage post on Friday when I learned the hard way that my computer was too shitty to play the BETA. I have waited for this game with bated breath since it was first announced all those years ago and I can't say how excited I was to finally get to play it only to learn it was unplayable on my system. I had planned on making an upgrade for the retail, but thought I'd be able to handle the demo with this system. In my rage, I decided to buy the components for my new build on the spot and am going from a single core 2GB DDR2 memory low end graphics card piece of shit to this (Had to buy EVERYTHING but not boring anyone with details on extra fans, speakers, etc.) :

This high end monster machine will destroy all games on the highest settings. I will not let this incident happen again! Now please let the next BETA round come soon so I can play!
jebus, an i7 you went overkill!
I have an i5 with a GTX460 OC and it does great. The only thing that i can see holding you back now is how good of a internet connection you have XD
Ha, yeah I could easily have saved money in multiple areas but I decided to just really beast as much as I felt was reasonable. This system should last me quite a while. As for internet, We have the highest package deal with Cox, but I unfortunately have to resort to a wireless NIC which I also purchased with all this other stuff. Should be really strong signal and I also have a repeater set up in my office so I should be alright. Would be nice to have a direct connection to the router but it's in my roommate's office :|
Curious: what i5 do you have? Is it overclocked?jebus, an i7 you went overkill!
