Hajime No Ippo for Wii!

This was the most recent thread I could find...everything else was much more ancient.
Should've made a new one then, then it even could have been an official thread for the game instead of becoming locked like this one will

this game is supposed to be out tomorrow, right?

I called several Gamestops and they thought I was crazy and making this game up, but the site says it ships on the 16th.

I thought (and hoped) Jirotrom at least was going to make an Official Thread, instead all I see at -1 to relase date is a bump of a 3 months old thread... dang.

C'mon, someone shows some effort for this baby!

I didn't want to make an official thread until I had the game in my hands. Seeing as there is almost absolutely no news on it:(
I'll have the game soon enough.

I can get you the more recent one for like ten bucks.

Cool, I'll eagerly wait and maybe you can say something about the wiiboxing like controls (we already know the pointer controls are terrible) NOT completely sucking ass.

I'll analyze it to the tee... thing is, amazon pushed the date back and none of the large chains have it:(

I went to my local Gamestop to see if they had it, they had no clue when it was comming out, the website is now saying the 23rd, Amazon.com is saying the 19th...what the hell is going on.

well... If you live in NY, you can get it at the J&R world store for 50 bucks. the game apparently covers about 78 volumes in the manga. I'm pretty pissed about the ippo situation... Its like the series is cursed to have bad marketing and sales.:(

I can spend like 2 to 3 hours driving to NY, but I will wait it out or worse case order it online.

and the only thing I dont like about it being upto 78 is that
I cant beat the crap out of Gedo.

lol, I just noticed you post over at that forum with the same username and avatar.

Game is out already from what I know... bad distribution?

I just don't know anyone who's buying it and I've got a PAL Wii :-/

terrible distribution, none of the large chains have it till next week, and even amazon had to push back the shipping date. Hajime no Ippo is simply cursed, Like the Lee family curse:P

I just ordered it on Amazon so it gets here on monday.

Gamestop's site was saying backordered, the people in the store were saying they didnt even thing this was a real game and it wasnt on the computer. I just want the game soon.

I'm going to start looking for this game. I need this game to complete my quest to find deeper versions of Wii Sports events.

yeah, I was being patient, but I couldent wait any longer.

after this I have the PSP Ippo game to look forward to, althought I really wish Treasure would make a follow up to the GBA one on the DS

Ippo on GBA is essentially Punchout + Ippo + several special moves per character + being able to move around the ring.

it is very good, but it is kind of hard to explain, the only bad part about the game is all the characters are in Ippo's weight class.

The game moves are the main Ippo Story mode, versus, then an arcade like mode where you can take any character you beat and fight others with him.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=5agxewF-N7w

that is a video I just randomly searched for on youtube, but the bar on the left of the screen is distance from the other boxer, so you can move forward and back or move side to side. At some parts in the video you can see the cross block and things like that, you can pretty much activate either special attacks or special upgrades durring the fight such as the the cross block.

I here the distance meter is definitely missed in the Wii version of Ippo. The focus becomes very infighting based in it because of this. For me this is Ok because I've always preferred this style even thought out boxing worked better in the previous Ippo games.

Gamestop won't be getting it until this thursday. And even then its not sure all stores will get it since its one of those titles you can't preorder. I tried D: Well instore anyway.

Sigh, i've been leaping around online forums and reviews, sounds like the dub is absolute fail D: Tragic too since the jp had actors from the anime, which were fucking ace. Goddamnit. I'll get this but its tempting that when I get a jp wii, id import ippo wii as well D: Well it's not a complete loss from XSEED, looks like it has a reversible cover jacket :O

well here is the deal... XSEED really really wanted to put in athe japanese audio as well but there wasn't enough room on the DVD. The actors that are dubbing in the US version are the same actors for the English track in the ippo anime. So expect that, in orther words Vorg will sound horrible. XSEED really tries its best to listen to its fans, the reason the cover art looks the way it does is because of the fans. The reason its reversible is because of the fans too.

Knowing this, my respect for XSEED went up more :D I hope with Blu-ray dual audio really is a norm now. But, why the dub even? I'm pretty sure Nintendo doesn't enforce dub like SCEA. Although, XSEED could be trying to be considerate too.

I honestly think that is the case... ippo isn't very popular in the US you know. Nothing against XSEED but I wish a big company would purchase the rights to ippo and really market it. If this game is as good as the ps2 games, it will be ad to see it suffer the same fate as the others in terms of sales.

Yeah, I imagine the causal wii crowd will buy this thinking it'd be an actual boxing game and would most likely be WTF were it japanese. D: I remember how many wii folks weren't really like Super Swing Golf because it wasnt realistic. Honestly, sucks to be the fans here.

edit: and yeah, ippo PS2 games <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<< Fight Night series. Of course americans think otherwise XD

your arrows are backwards... but yea I agree.

Looks awesome, but I dont think it will ever be releasd in Europe :(. So no Ippo for me.

+ They should continue the Hajime No Ippo anime that was also awesome.

Yeah the anime was awesome.
We have to continue with the scans.
I'm really interested in the game but it's a shame for the dub. I hoped jap dub with eng sub in this game..

I really dont mind the dub too much, I mean judging from the trailer Vorg sounds pretty bad, but its fine.

I mean, Xseed is cool enough to bring it to the states this quickly, that is pretty awesome considering how long it took for the other two. Also, this came at a great time because Wii is lame in that you cant play import games on it and there is no work around with it yet, so I was considering importing a Wii with this game until I heard Xseed picked it up.

Well, it's greater than, the proper way of doing it XD Tho yeah, I usually do the other way. GO IPPO. BTW you work @ gamestop eh? hehe.

i happened to watch the hajime no ippo movie on google video recently. first time watching hajime no ippo and was quite impressed.

i assume this game isn't coming stateside? and there's still no "freeloader" for wii games right? *sigh*

edit: oh it's coming stateside? i didn't even know the anime was licensed. any youtube vids of the wii game?

edit: only online review i could find was gamespots and they hated the controls. has anyone actually played it yet? i actually don't mind the controls of wii boxing, so how do the motion controls compare to that? and are the classic/gamecube controls worthwhile?

fight night round 3 was really boring for me. i liked the hajime no ippo movie though and i still think wii boxing is the best wii sports game. think i should try and grab this game?

im amazed at the ppl who think wiimote will make every game experience much better...

You only have to look at the evidence so far:

Wii Play
Wii Sports
Kororinpa
SSX
Madden
Metroid Prime 3
Trauma Center

I'm amazed by how easy the transition has been, that's quite a few different genres. All of these offer a better feel, functionality and in most cases speed and accuracy than before. And this is the first gen. Also games like Excite Truck show that even if there's no clear advantage by the controls, the added motion controls can bring a lot of feeling to the game. And when it's a well established boxing game, why wouldn't you be excited of the Wii-controls?

There, it's not that hard to understand if you think bout it.

Well, it seems the best controls are to use the 2nd motion based one, which has you moving with the analog instead. I'm definitely up for that. While the rest are pretty iffy, even with gamecube/classic.

oh and i'm only really interested in playing 2 player. don't really care for singleplayer. does it work well in multiplayer?

I JUST GOT IT!!!!!.... I will be playing this for a bit now, dfyb you should check out the rest of the anime. Also hunt down Victorious Boxers All Stars... you can get it for 10 bucks and its a fantastic boxing game. I'm hoping this game holds up to its ps2 counterparts. LETS DO DIS!

Hook us up with some impressions.

I'm a big Ippo fan, and plan to get it anyway, however I'd like to hear what another Ippo fan has to say about it HONESTLY rather than a reviewer who is forced to play the game on a system they probably don't care about!

impressions!

I did 2 day shipping, so I think I get it tomorrow, I cant wait, althought I am getting 3 other games tomorrow.

so far the gamecube controller is the best config... the motion controls are hard and trying to play with classic controller feels weird... give me some time though.

EDIT: I went back to motion controls 2... the game is definitely fun like this albeit imprecise... my main beef is that when you want to duck an weave the camera locks on so the opponent will often move out of the camera... granted this is supposed to simulate first person boxing I can live with it for now.

NICE!

I got the game today, it was in my other mailbox for some reason, either way it is awesome.

Xseed is awesome for having the the dual sided cover.

The presentation in this is top notch, the music is much better and the announcer is really really awesome.

after spending some time with the game, it is great.

I havent tried it with the gamecube controller yet, but so far the classic controller is the best with the exception of awkward special moves (wtf is with Z+R? do both Z buttons have the same function on the CC?). Both swing controls are pretty flawed and I personally cant see myself playing the game with them, they are kind of fun if you were playing with a friend who doesnt know how to play normally, but in general I wouldent use it.

the biggest problem with the game is that they dont seem to let you change the camera which is kind of annoying, but at the same time not terrible because the behind the back camera is much better than in other games. Also, BLOCKING!!!! not having a block button that is useless, but useful blocking!! It actually helps!!!!
