Halo 5 Launch Day Multiplayer Playlist Revealed

Honestly, only thing that bothers me is having Breakout in Arena. To me that makes no sense. When i go into breakout, im not expecting Arena type gameplay and vice-versa. This needs to be changed asap.

While I personally agree, that's an error in IGN's formatting.

Agree completely, Breakout is its own thing and should remain completely separate to Arena.

Josh on Waypoint:

Team Arena is mirroring the content that will be played in the HCS. Breakout will be included to start and we'll evaluate based on feedback from pros and viewers. If it doesn't stick, we'll update Team Arena to pull it out.

Sounds like a fair experiment to me... It also sounds like it will be pulled out sooner rather than later

Also

Q: Another question Josh, why Team Arena instead of Team Objective? Seems like a Team Objective mode with Capture the Flag, King of the Hill, Strongholds and Oddball would offer a lot more variety to the community. Breakout also doesn't fit the Team Arena playlist, it's way too different from the others. It's like adding SWAT in Team Slayer
A:We analyzed population data from past Halo games and worked w/ the Halo Community Feedback Program to take input and come up with this initial plan for launch. Team Arena is meant to mirror the HCS content for competitive play - if this changes, we'll update the playlist accordingly. Team Objective is something we considered and we may bring back in future. Keep in mind that we'll be constantly revving the playlists to reflect community feedback, add new content and keep things fresh. This is just where we will start on day one

So it really doesn't sound like they have their heads up their asses, but rather they are trying very diligently to please a varied and fickle fan base...

It sounds to me like the actually do listen to feedback, and have plans to be rather flexible... Getting the right balance isn't as easy as we armchair developers make it out to be....

A lot of Halo fans are fucking assholes... I don't envy 343i at all...

That you have not consulted a doctor about that giant stick up your ass.

Is that what it is? Thank goodness, for a second there I thought it was from 343 lying about the MCC and then being willfully ignorant about Halo 5's launch. A stick I can fix, bad game design is out of my hands.

Of course, that seemed obvious enough to me. If they want people to play it so they can try it, just give them REQ packs as a bonus or something. Dont put it in arena...

Ok so just to be sure, since some of you claim i'm trolling and what not. "playlist" gives you no choice once you select it? If you choose "Team Arena" can you then play CTF and nothing but CTF? From what I played and know of Halo that is not the case. Am I wrong?

What am I supposed to be embarrassed about here?

Dude, your online persona has been played out for years, quit the games already if you hate it that bad.

I mean it's one thing to disagree with their decisions, but you always come off in the most annoying, childish way possible.

I mean, the team objective playlist will be at its most populated at launch.

We all know it's gonna die, so why not let the people who enjoy Objective, enjoy it at it fullest, however long it lasts.

What I'm trying to say is FRANKIE, LET TEAM OBJECTIVE DIE WITH DIGNITY, UNLIKE KITTEN'S ACCOUNT.

Obviously you haven't been reading Frankie's posts. I tried diplomacy once, but now I just prefer to fight fire with fire.

I really have no idea why anyone at 343, or Bungie for that matter ever took the time to talk with any of these communities. The knee jerk reactions, coupled with the sheer venom most people spit is ludicrous.

Everyone is all worried about the playlists, why is no one worried about the MP actually working? (I am looking at you MCC)

Because the Beta worked fine in January? Because Halo 4 MM worked? Because this isn't 4 games duct taped together?

And just who exactly are you talking about here?!?!!?

;)

Breakout mixed with regular Arena? Wow that seriously blows because it means I will have to avoid an entire playlist and only use the slayer one which has less variety and maps.

I also wonder why there is no crossover for the Warzone playlists as far as maps. Are those maps specifically for Assault and do not work well with regular Warzone or something?

Assault is like Rush, so I'm assuming you "progress" through the map, which would require a different layout from the 3 base setup of regular WZ.

You're right, as a game developer, they should be exempt from the normal standards we hold corporations and companies to. If Coca-Cola releases cans that turn out to be half full, they better be on the mic getting out a press release to the world, apologizing, paying settlements and pulling all their product from the shelves until it's fixed. But if a video game company does it, we should just count our blessings that the exalted Frankie deems us worthy of dropping asinine posts on our forums.

You're the kind of consumer companies have wet dreams about.

No, although im not happy about MCC this isnt 5 games in one. And the Beta worked flawlessly. Id be stunned if it didnt work at launch.

I missed out on the beta so that is my fault there. You guys are right about 4 games in 1, MCC just left a bad taste in my mouth. Wished it worked better.

As part of the social experience, and the cooperative nature of recruiting new friends, we introduced an element of democracy. It’s called the Veto! Teams and individuals will get one chance to veto (reject, in other words) a game or map type they dislike, with a simple majority vote. To avoid abuse, you only get that single Veto opportunity, but if for example, the majority in a matchmaking lobby just isn’t in the mood for a game of Oddball, check the Veto box (by pressing X) and you’ll skip at random to another selection. Hopefully it’s going to be something more to the group’s taste, because there’s no second Veto.

Reading that old Bungie post, I liked this from Halo 3. I'm surprised to learn a lot of people didn't like voting or veto options. But I found its much better than forcing you to play something the majority absolutely didn't want to. But Josh and the team will probably monitor people's feedback, see what they like playing and what they don't.

I'll give the launch playlists a shot, hopefully once BTB comes into the fold, they can use those first few weeks to see what's working and what isn't and switch it up.

The only part I didnt like about it was that I always ended up playing on the same few maps.

I have to assume a lot of these choices are data-driven, just making sure everyone has playlists they can quickly get into at launch -- but I'm just surprised and disappointed that the data doesn't support having a dedicated objective playlist in either MCC or Halo 5 with CTF/Assault/etc.

It sort of made sense in MCC as there are just so many playlists across several games that it could splinter the community too much, but I can't really make sense of why there wouldn't be a CTF/Assault/Strongholds/Oddball playlist unless the data just doesn't show enough demand for it. CTF being easily my favorite gametype, this is a bummer, but still looking forward to the rest of the playlists and Warzone.

I got a refund for MCC, bruh.

Your original post had nothing to do with MCC, it was just you bleating on and on about how they don't know what the fuck they're doing because there's no Doubles playlist.

And like I said, disagreeing with the playlists is fine, but the way you go about it, just makes everyone's eyes glaze over and not take you serious.

I'm wondering now whether CTF and Oddball even exist as game types in Halo 5. Hearing that Team Objective "may return" is a little off-putting.

Breakout is terrible and the fact that it is effectively replacing these modes, at least for the time being, kind of sucks.
