that being said, the control options are a godsend. I am tempted to put the game away until that is released because as it is right now, it's a huge fun killer for me.

Don't really care for headlong but wish we could get avalanche.
 
But will I ever get to play on TRUTH? I've played about 10-15hrs so far, most of which in arena and haven't gotten TRUTH yet. My friend is already rank 30 and hasn't seen it once.
 
Form follows function. If they keep on rolling out working maps then I'm happy. Oh noes, the road looks like a fisher price toy in that map, I'm gonna be Satans Reverence and now hide in the corner and yell at myself about it.
 
Halo has had magnetism since sweep sniping was a thing in Halo 2. Play the fucking game and then bitch. You sure do a lot of bitching about shit you don't even experience yourself.

Go try the same shit in Halo 3 or Halo Reach.

Just because Halo 2 and the 4 was bad, doesn't mean it needs to stay this awful.

Form also informs function. Even if I enjoy these maps, I'd become uninterested in them over time because of their aesthetics compared to other maps. If people are gonna play in certain maps for hundreds of matches without losing interest in them, visuals help immensely.

No doubt, I'm just trying to fight some of the cynicism in this thread. It's not the end of the world if they play really well. I'd rather play a ton of free well made forge maps than very few paid regular maps. 4 in 1 month is pretty damn good, not to mention the other updates.

I'm happy with the colors and lighting options being added to Forge, but what in the world is up with how plain all the pieces look? It's so hard to navigate, and just plain ick looking.

Reach at least had some texture:

And with modes like Breakout (which looks really nice IMO) being built from Forge, surely they could have livened up these pieces a little bit more.

I can understand wanting to combat some of the negativity, and I do feel bad complaining about free maps. Visuals are just a nag with me, and forge just makes smaller details so much more blocky it seems.

I don't think that's true. Visuals are good to grab immediate attention but the longer you play a map the less you care about them. Dust II in CSGO still looks last gen as fuck and it struck me when I started playing the game, but you stop caring pretty quickly if the map is at least good.

I would say you are right, I often get kills on missed shots.


For those of you talking about Free maps.

I'd gladly pay for some good maps... I'd glady pay 500 dollars for some really good designed halo maps myself. Not saying they have to be exepsnive, but I could care less i they are free if they are bad.
 
343 did make some questionable aesthetic design choices with forge, in my opinion. They gave people color, which is what they wanted, but some of the pieces just look weird. Reach forge objects definitely do look better.

Yeh I definitely think it could look better and that would be a positive. I just don't think a maps longevity and graphical quality are tied at all. Those two things are basically counterpoint to each other in video games.

This is ok, but not great as well. Better than what we are seeing on H5 though.


I don't like this map though. Much prefer the Guardian style Lighting, yes, I an actually see on this map unlike 343's lighting. Agree with you here.

I might be in the minority (I don't play a whole lot of MP games), but it's something I prefer at least. But I can understand if people want function over everything else.

Similarly, I didn't care for the overly simplistic design of Mirror's Edge, though I understand it was mostly to help guide the player through the levels.

I mean, you couldn't actually be dumb enough to think that Halo 3 or Halo reach had anywhere near the magnetism that Halo 2, the 4 or even the 5 has. Could you? Come on, no one could blindly defend a developer that much, could they?

Magnetism may be worse but aim assist is handled way better. If you can't see the necessary trade-off then you're not looking at the bigger picture.

Magnetism is by far the worse of the 2 options. There is never an excuse for having such extreme amounts of it.

Halo 3/Reach were far better in that regard and shooting in those games actually did have a meaningful skill gap.

As I said earlier, outside the pistol, there is virtually zero aim skill in halo 5.

I simply can't agree with this statement. Not only does the fast movement in 5 make it harder to aim, but the aim assist is infinitely lower than it was in both 3/Reach which makes it much harder to follow an enemy for a kill. Magnetism isn't as strong with non-sniper weapons either.

The guy that said he hasn't played the game is also saying there is no aim skill. It better to ignore him, you know he will just keep trolling.

It is perfectly reasonable to like the game, their maps, their forge maps and clamber ideas.


There is nothing wrong with liking the game, but what about those of us who want a more halo experience? Can we not voice our concerns?
