Halo Reach & Bungie at GamesCom 2010

Looks like hunters are still the annoying-never-die versions from Halo2/3/ODST and the brutes still look ridiculously stupid with armor that just doesn't fit their mentality. I've always hated brutes anyway, so I guess it's all moot.

never-die? Shoot at their weakspots, they go down pretty easy.

Which makes me wonder.. what kind of horrible technology is that, that leaves massive weak spots in their armor? Even the Grunts' armors are better (as in, not leaving spots open, the armor itself is so damn weak).

A Brute and a Grunt, like a Lorel and Hardy kind of thing!
I'll start working on a Brute, see if I can get a nice style for them. Got some comments from some people saying that the Hunters and Elite looked very.. normal (which is true), so I'll see what I can do.

And Bungie probably had little to do with Legends.
It's been awhile I can't remember how old she was in the Fall of Reach, but I imagined her waay hooter than that. She looks in her late 30's... WTF Bungle :P

Ok lol I guess she was old when Reach Fell...

Halsey was PhD and an experienced scientist in 2514, when she sets up Spartan-2 program, Halo Reach takes place 2552, when Reach is invaded. What the hell did you expect?

Who is she talking to at the end of the ViDoc?

To an AI?

She says "so, you made your choice. Yeah, great minds do think alike".

And the other bit about Noble Six "hyper-lethal. There's only one other Spartan with that rating..."

Hype has risen.

Wat? You mean her late 50's, don't you? I really don't know, but that video made her look seriously old.

What a great 24 hours it's been to be a Halo/Bungie fan. The Trailer looked good, albeit I'm hesitate to call it a traditional ViDoc. Game design and the art direction isn't the only aspect of Halo: Reach that has been perfected over the past 10 years; Bungie's PR machine has really improved since Combat Evolved. For Reach, the PR schedule has been great so far, striking the perfect balance between letting enough information out while keep the game a mystery. While watching this ViDoc, I instantly was reminded of the Desperate Measures ViDoc for Halo: ODST. Both have voice over by a relevant figure from the game introducing other characters and giving hints of what is to come later in the campaign. The PR monster is in full swing, all we need now is an ARG.

Firefight, zzzzZZZzzzzz...

Show me the real multiplayer maps plz.

This. Firefight is cool and all but a month after release no one is going to be playing it anymore customization options or not. I would rather have 18 solid MP maps (original not done in forge world) and FF cut from the game.

Cynar said:
fixed, let's just hope 343 can live up to what Bungie has accomplished
Yeah. I'm sure I'll go insane over Halo 4 in like 4 years( hopefully, if not longer). But if they really want to go about it right. They need to wait for the next system. A 343i Halo 4 on Microsoft's next system as a launch title, or a few years in the systems life cycle.... :O I trust Frankie, and 343i. That would be amazing if the do that.

Wouldn't go that far, but I'd happily throw two FF maps back in exchange for two new original MP maps.

Halo 1 also had some excellent trailers and marketing campaign. It came from an unknown quantity to 6.5M copies sold. Of course the game being great didn't harm the sales at all. :)

I would rather not have to keep swapping to from Halo 3 to ODST just to play Firefight. I am happy FF is in Reach because it gives people more options when it comes to how they want to play the game.

I like the ViDoc but the beginning made me think of the intro of Fellowship of the Ring. :lol
I thought the same thing, but just thought I was being a bit too nerdy.

I came.

So wait, Halsey is gonna put Auntie Dot in Noble 6's head? Awesome.

Also cool is it sounds like they got
Jen Taylor to do Halsey's voice like a slightly sterner take on Cortana. Perfect.

Cortana should have Halsey's voice, since she's made from her mind.

You're right, it is perfect.

Really? I thought Firefight was pretty damn fun in ODST, and I'd play it even more if I had more friends around that had a 360 (Japan isn't exactly full of 360 fans..).

Its a shame FF maps cannot be used in competitive MP. The first time I played Overlook in the beta thoughts of BTB games on that map made me smile.....only to have my dreams crushed shortly after.

I have not read the book in years... Hell I forgot the year Reach Fell.

She is talking to Master Chief.

Something I noticed in the trailer.

At the 2:41 mark it shows Halsey looking at the team members bios. They are all listed as MIA so that part of the video could be taking place after the events of reach. A Spartan never dies, they are just MIA. So that would keep the story arc accurate if Halsey is perhaps on Onyx during this trailer.

I bet it is Cortana. Great minds think alike. Looks like Bungie really has an amazing game in store for us.

Glad I pre-ordered the uber edition :D

Auntie Dot

Anyone else understand the vague dialogue at the end of the video? HYPE! Im so excited for this campaign!

It was retarded that they made her hot in the animated movie.

szaromir said:
She already appeared in Halo Legends, but she looked like Samus Aran there. In Reach she should look like a granny, but in the trailer she appears to be 35 years old (or so). Bungie stretch cohesiveness of their universe a bit thin.

Wasn't Cortana with Master Chief at the time?

Legends showed her looking like a tween. Stupid. She is much older according to the books, closer to what you see in this trailer. Bungie didn't stretch it thin, 343 and their anime partners did.

Yes you're right, it is not Cortana, it's Auntie Dot, who is likely another clone of her mind.

maybe ONI has them listed as MIA to keep them hidden/secret?

She looks older than late 30s. Id say mid 40's at least.

Anime artists simply cannot do older women unless they are ancient, wizened crones. Halsey in Legends is more than a decade younger, possibly a lot more and still intended to look like someone in her early forties. Anime version of Halsey is heavily artistically interpreted, to suit that particular artistic trope, while Bungie's Reach version is literal and the 'correct' one.

Young Halsey was a handsome woman, however.

Yup. That is exactly what I was thinking myself. People have to realize that the Legends stuff while good was going to have some big liberties taken with how some characters looked.

Nonsense. ODST is still on the Live charts, despite the lack of matchmaking or custom game options of any sort. Firefight in Reach will probably be a decent chunk of the online players.

edit: whoops, I had the screenshot wrong. yes, I got the same vibe from that screenshot!

I predict that firefight is going to have a lot more staying power than some people here think thanks to matchmaking, challenges, vs, and score attack. At least i know for the people I play with we do a ton more co-op gaming that we do competitive, so this sounds just right for me.

I had kind of hoped we'd get something really crazy out of gamescon, like bungie announcing some kind of crazy game-mode creator that taps into their new scripting engine. Not that what we got has been bad, but it's not what I was hoping for. Shows not over though I guess :(.

It has to have the openings because hunters can vary in size and height. All depends on how many of the lekgolo worms climb into the suit.

Just woke up and saw the new vidoc...

All I'm going to say is that sitting here while my pants are filled with an scarcely believable amount of my own, uh, material, is NOT how I
typically
like to start the day.

Damn it, Bungle!
