Halo: Reach Live Action Ad

And they'll probably prove yet again that they can't capture any of that atmosphere in their games.
But you can shoot shit eighteen different ways dude!

Did you read that?

EIGHTEEN DIFFERENT WAYS TO SHOOT SHIT!!!

*mindblown*

Man, Halo armor looks pretty goofy in real life.

On a related note, has anyone seen that recent phone(?) commercial where they have a Master Chief-alike character running around fighting aliens? When I first saw that I thought it was for Reach :lol

Lol, I thought it was Reach commercial at first then I saw the enemy ship...

Would it ruin it for anyone if I asked what Kat's AA was and why she didn't use it?

To my knowledge all AA has visual cues, be it a blatant jet pack or a small glowing package attached to the back. She didn't appear to have any AA.

Very nice clip.

Though I wish they'd spend that insane marketing dough on development instead. MS is obviously performing an advertising overkill for Reach.

Okay. That was awesome.

Was that directed by Rupert Sanders? He did the last live action ad/trailer for ODST.

A great sense of atmosphere, it also really communicates a sense of loss and what's at stake.

Great job for such a short trailer.

Amazing, looks better than Killzone 3.

Since you're making such nonsense comparisons I'll fire one off as well.

The entire HALO franchise is absolutely no where near as good as sex.

Im going to assume she had Sprint, i mean she was carrying the bomb (obvious choice for a sprinter) and out running everyone else.

I really cannot wait to read which idiocy you will write to back this statement up.

Unless you were talking Ms in general, and not referring to Reach's development.

But you can't aim your weapon while sprinting!

Kat can, because she is awesome.

Anyway, I love the live action commercials from the Halo universe. The Believe ads from Halo 3 were quite something and this one is perfect. Let's hope there's more to come.:D

I don't think it's a zero sum situation. It's not like MS is hurting for cash.

I did not mean to offend anyone.

I love it when the marketing really hits the spot and establishes the presence of the game and gives it a nice backdrop and whatnot.

However I think that Halo is such a household name by now that there really is no need to spam the consumer with non-stop stream of movie quality ads. Those that are committed to buy Reach will buy it either way.

Hell, maybe I am just too old for the scene by now.

I edited my post in case you were really bringing something to the conversation.

No one can argue against what you are saying.

Although I expected to hear something about the game from you. I mean, you say they spent too much on marketing and not on development.

So, what's missing in the game?

Again, as I said, unless you were referring to Ms in general; in this case I could agree: aside from Halo and Fable, Ms spent everything on Kinect.

Watching stuff like that just make me more mad the Halo movie still hasn't been made.

I couldn't agree more about that. A Halo movie that looked as good as those shorts would be truly amazing. I can only hope we'll ever see one.

Now onto the short. While I did like it I do have one complaint about it. The camera cuts are a bit over done. Every couple seconds it's cutting away to another view of something else. I think it would have been better had they kept it on Kat. Even if it was a pulled back view behind her. This would allow you to see the Elites, falcons, etc while still keeping the action on her. Due to the constant jumping I feel like I'm left actually having not seen very much at all when there really was a lot of cool stuff going on. I think that the length may be the culprit here. It's like they are trying to fit all of this stuff into a 1 minute commercial.

Can't use AA while holding objectives..

So arbitrary gameplay restrictions now apply to the "real" world too? The drop objective/can't shoot mechanic is there just for gameplay balance. There's no reason in the Halo lore itself that it is impossible to shoot/hold an objective while using an AA.

Case in point: Noble 6 uses his jetpack while carrying the objective.

Wow, that was pretty awesome. I think it barely tops the We Are ODST ad, but it definitely doesn't top the Believe ad, in my opinion.

i really hope now that ms owns the franchise, and we have 343, that a halo movie finally gets made. that ad was awesome. get blomkamp, or they guy who did this to do something along the same lines

You think so? I haven't noticed it that much. It was not like Halo killed at E3!

Honestly, do you think this game can come up and sell, around COD? figures! +20 million?

That was really good. I loved the music, atmosphere and level of detail going on. It completely blows away the past live action ads. Extended cut please?

So, two complaints I had:

When Kat went down, her body didn't seem heavy enough. On the other hand, it looked a lot like the physics from games, which is pretty cool.

Also, was this the original Noble 6 sacrificing himself? If so, it should haven been more obvious he didn't make it out.

But yeah, it was awesome. One again, extended cut? Please?

I believe the poster was being facetious.

It will sell around COD figures on the 360 alone, that's for sure.

More or less it doesn't matter.

You're seriously comparing sales figures for a blockbuster multiplatform title to an exclusive one?

I know these two games are the biggest blockbuster ever (together with GT), but come on.

On a side note, why is Kat male at 0:30?
It's still a female in that shot. I don't mean to destroy any worlds here, but almost any woman will display some slight "facial hair" if you put an HD camera that ridiculously close to her face and at that angle.

It looks likemuch denser facial hair than I have... Maybe it's because of dirt, dunno.

Is it odd that I like Halo universe, the books, the fluff, etc but really don't care for the games?
Yes, they're by far the best part of the Halo universe.

I didn't particularly care for the Halo 3 "Believe" campaign; I thought it was overly sentimental, almost to the point of cheesiness. The fact that it had next to nothing to do with the game only made it worse in my eyes. The work done on that diorama, however, was incredible.

On the other hand, this Reach ad, and the one for ODST, are both absolutely pitch-perfect in terms of capturing the look and feel of Halo. At the same time, that makes them the cruelest tease imaginable in terms of showing what a big-budget, live-action Halo blockbuster could look like, if only one were to be made.

Just fantastic work on MS, 343, and Bungie's part.

I loved the original Halo, but after that have found most of the Halo games to just be so bland. I did like aspects of ODST though, but other than that I've been always so meh by the games, never had the wow factor of the original game. Though I will buy the action figures, books, comics, liked Legends....

Reach does look like it will be more interesting though so I got hope.

Watching this digitized me into the computer where I was trapped for 7 years before escaping to type this.

And I still enjoyed watching it.
