a Halo Reach truther? really?

I mean this is just something that is bigger than the two of us. I wouldn't expect you to understand.

Halsey was told that the next waves of Spartans couldn't happen because of the lack of available candidates and that the funds had been diverted. What if higher-ups just decided to go ahead with using so-so prospects and didn't want to tell her?
That's the only theory I've come up with. If they were Spartan IIIs, wouldn't they have different letters in the call sign? Plus, according to the halo wiki, Reach happened after S-III Alpha and Beta companies died, but before Gamma was trained.
I think there's an opportunity for the new Spartans to be something else, but I don't think they can be Spartan 3s.

I think Bungie has made it sufficiently clear that they won't let a main plot point have any relation to a book outside of the scope of the story. Also, I don't think the writers at Bungie are capable of taking an idea alien to most halo players (spartan III project) and interweaving it with the fall of Reach without fucking it up big time.

I'm referring to what's HOLDING the weapon.

The weapon could be almost anything. Minigun, flamethrower, grenade launcher, whatever.

But it's pretty clear a heavy class Spartan is holding it.

Right, which is why I'm thinking they'll find a way to weave new Spartan 2s in. That way they don't have to retcon the books or force players to understand them. They just preserve them.

If Halo Reach doesn't do exceptionally well I would blame it on ODST. The franchise really needed a break (at least for the FPS part) and ODST did no favors. The gamers not following its production knew nothing of its history and ended up questioning the reuse of the engine and the subpar attempt at new features. The graphics, although a slight improvement to Halo 3, look ancient compared to most games on the market. Even the gameplay was too similar to Halo 3 for those looking to get a new Halo experience. Some even tried ODST out with a 'benefit of the doubt' approach. I really think the general feeling among casual gamers is a burn out from Halo.

ODST came 2 years after 3, and Wars was an RTS in February.

I doubt 'burn-out' is an issue considering each Call od Duty is snapped up en masse YEARLY.

When I say 'exceptionally well' I mean in terms of what the Halo franchise is used to. I doubt CoD sales (on the 360) can compare to sales of a new Halo game.

Have we ever seen a heavy class spartan? How do we even know what one looks like?

Is Halo: Reach considered "Halo 4" or just another sidestory like ODST?

Prequel to the events of the trilogy, but in terms of the project's scale, marketing, etc., it's definitely a "Halo 4".

In the Halo Legends preview we get a glimpse of what one may look like. Who knows what it is really called, but people are calling it a "heavy class" Spartan for the time being I guess.

Yep, and I'm hoping Bungie treats it as such, especially since this is (apparently) their final Halo game; I really want them to go out with a bang. This is pretty weird, it's a video game adaption of book that is a prequel to a video game. To my knowledge this a first for the medium :D

Bear in mind Reach will have a public beta for the MP in spring that will have a couple million participants. Which can do a lot for word of mouth, assuming it's good. And Bungie has a pretty good track record, especially in the MP department.

We don't know if it will be that. I personally don't think it will be. It'll probably be a completely new story.

I imagine the game istelf will be its own story set within the overall structure of "The Fall of Reach."

Going from what we see, and mostly hear from the trailer, it would seem that we may get some of the overall structure of the book from The Fall of Reach (covers the beginning of the space battle), and then we would probably get more of the structure from First Strike which deals with the ground battle on Reach. So maybe the beginning of the game could involve boarding a Covenant ship or two, and then eventually making it down to the surface of Reach.

This will be a rather strange Halo game since the Spartans you play as will die, and everyone on Reach pretty much loses. All previous Halo games have been bulding towards a victory for the humans while Reach will be all about defeat. I wonder how they will handle it... and I hope they have employed some really good storytellers.

If you read the books you would know not everyone dies, also
Not all of Reach gets Glassed

What do I have to do o get into Halo? I feel so left out, I biught and have halo 3 but I get smashed online absurdly, I generaly dont like shooters where it takes alot of bullets to kill.....

i don't see how people were thinking this was the halo 3 engine, in the pics in the OP everything looks a lot cleaner and detailed, even in their ultra blurry phone cam pics

I have been a long time fan of the series like many, and my only expectations for this game are to add substantial gameplay improvements (It was so hard to go to ODST after playing CoD4 for so long) and a cohesive and interesting plot.

Ghost of Onyx is on reach right? Onyx was a base or something?

God that story was awesome. As i read the final chapters in that book, i pictured it just like a scenario in the game.

You need to meet people to play with. Just join a social slayer match and be social. Team up with a couple of friendly people and learn the ropes with your new team. Halo 3 is huge on teamwork and since everyone and their mother plays the damn game there's hundreds of thousands of great, great players that will destroy you if you don't have a decent team to constantly back you up.

As for the part about you not liking shooters where it takes a lot of bullets to kill an enemy, just play some Team SWAT. One shot to the head or about 3-4 shots to the body kills the enemy.

And use your grenades as much as possible. Most of the new players I play against will not throw grenades as much as you should. If you have them on you, use them right away. Bank them into the next room before you enter it and so on. You'll always end up picking up a couple more after using them.

Which would most likely at some point be the plot for the movie from the book which is now the game!!

Oh yeah, haloGAF has all kinds of skill levels. There's the elderly, there's Dax with duals, and then on the other end there's Tashi.

The figures are public - why not check before muddying fact with opinion?

Why are some of you saying this is "Halo 4"?

Does this even have SP? It seems like a MP only game. And Halo 4 will have a 4.

It will have SP and MP. MP beta starting sometime next year, spring probably.

Bungie would be stupid as all hell not to make a SP focusing on the fall of Reach, and I really hope they just make a videogame based on the book, because the story presented in there is the best one in the Halo universe so far.

And by Halo 4, I think people mean that this is the next true Halo game. Not a spin-off or side project like ODST. But this will be marketed and have the production values as a Halo 4 will. But it seems like the true numerical sequel is being done by the MGS internal Halo Dream Team that Payton, Corrine Yu and Frankie is on.

Did you even read the OP? The leaker described in detail some of the missions he played in the single campaign of the (very early)pre-Alpha build. The blurry cell phone pictures also show single player levels/area, the main menu showing the campaign option on the menu and the pause menu showing placeholder mission objectives.

I don't think you did read the OP at all, go back and do so, there's some great info there based on the leaker's experiences.

Also, Reach has been given the development time and staff resources of the full company, the same as Halo, Halo 2 and Halo 3 before it. It has a new engine built specifically for it (also like Halo, 2 and 3) and also features a multiplayer (online) component (again like the previous titles).

The only reason why there's no 4 in the title is because Bungie probably wanted to end their involvement with Master Chief at 3. They have more room for trying out new things things with a new set of characters but at the same time a familiar universe set as the backdrop.

Disregard the game as a non main Halo title if you want. However, there's no doubt this is the next "main" Halo title. With it being Bungie's swansong in the Halo universe, this will be their last game in the Halo universe, I can easily see them going all out and leaving Halo fans with one hell of a legacy (Bungie has topped themselves with each Halo title, there's no reason not to expect they wouldn't do it again).

However, if the small fact that Master Chief won't be the main star attraction, you're best waiting a few years for Microsoft to get their first Halo title launched. That game may not even be on the 360.

Yup, totally different arena for you. It wouldn't be fair to consider you as in the same group as us.

And the whole Halo 4 thing: it's the next full Halo title, with just as much development in it as 1, 2, and 3. But it's not 4 in the sense that it won't continue the story.

Play CoD. Doesn't take much bullets.

I really, REALLY hope that the cutscenes won't be ugly as sin in Halo Reach. It's the most embarassing part of Halo 3 and ODST graphically.
