Behind The Games
oh... this is where you're all talking about this stuff.

my Galaxy preview, which you guys link to above

It's a minute-by-minute run down of my first hour of the game, including the time I tried to cheat by using two Wiimotes at once (bear in mind that the second remote is supposed to be used by a co-op player, who can point at enemies and freeze them in place)

10:17
I’ve got Mario on a planet covered in dirt. There’s some sort of mole or something racing around beneath the dirt. For some reason, I can see footprints. When I get Mario away from the prints, the creature emerges. When Mario gets close, it disappears. I chase the thing unsuccessfully for a bit. It won’t come out when Mario gets near.

This calls for some cheating.

I put the remote in my right hand down. I pick up the secondary remote. With my left hand I run Mario away. The underground guy emerges. With my right hand’s player-two remote, I point at him, press the button and freeze him. I then run Mario toward him. I put down the nunchuck and pick up the main remote, now with my left. I’ve got a remote in each hand. I shake the one in my left to make Mario do his spin attack. The little digging guy explodes into a fountai of star bits. I collect my reward, then put that second remote back down.

I am pleased with myself.

Mario is controlled by moving the analog stick and pressing buttons. Pointing the Wii Remote lets you shoot things with collected stars. He jumps around floating objects in space, although there are other environments. The story involves Princess Peach being kidnapped by Bowser. The game is very colorful, and runs at 480p and 16:9.

Super Mario Galaxy releases November 12th for the Wii console.

:lol perfect.

Not exactly. Neither the US nor Japanese editions really fit in the latter half of that analogy, and I can't think of anything that does. Sunshine is a bit of an odd duck.
I guess what I was going for is that Sunshine isn't a traditional 3D Mario experience in the same way that SMB2 wasn't a traditional 2D Mario experience. Both are odd ducks (one in 2D, the other in 3D).

The physical form of blasphemy
Advance wars seems like it shall be awesome. Bring back the kids! :( Good thing that they are toning down the CO powers. Some of the stuff in the older games are ridamndiculous.

A bit about Fire Emblem (Kotaku's preview):

In Fire Emblem: Radiant Dawn, death is still permanent, but Battle Saves can make it less frustrating. If you need a mulligan in a nasty fight, load up a mid-battle save point. Hardcore fans will be happy to know, however, that in the game's hard mode, Battle Saves are not an option.

So, you can't have battle saves in the hard mode. But no answer on whether there is the really hard difficultly that hasn't appeared in the previous titles.

Looks like you found my Battalion Wars piece already, but here's Fire Emblem:

For a variety of reasons Radiant Dawn feels like a game that was heavily in development for GameCube, then swapped over to Wii. In this genre, which tends to be fairly traditional, this isn't the negative point it might be for some games, but hopefully if Intelligent Systems returns for another go, the new game is built from the ground up. All that said, there are very few good games of this genre still being developed on home consoles, and with Fire Emblem being one of the best series in the segment, it's nice to see it receiving continued support. Plus, hardcore gamers could always use another good Wii game.

If my notes are correct, your only options are Easy, Normal and Hard (which is only available after completing it on Normal).

Maybe it's just me, but...

...well...

...doesn't Mario & Sonic look kind of great?

I was a bit put off by the initial footage of the 100m dash, but each subsequent event that is unveiled is piquing my interest further. It seems like the devs have a nice mix of motion and trad controls that could be quite entertaining, as well as challenging at higher levels (the trampolining event and its rhythmic Wiimote movement coupled with quickfire sequence repetition looks tough) and the game looks like a pretty polished affair all round.

Can you save highscores for seoarate players in Crossbow Training? If I get this (and I most likely will) I would like to be able to compete against my girlfriend.
