No doubt about it. Even before SC's remarks, if you sat down to do the math, it's hard to see either 360 or PS3 doing better than 300k for April.

Parl said:It'll maybe get close in June with the 5 week month and potentially more shipments because of Wii Fit madness adding to current madness, but I don't foresee anything close to 1m for Wii this month - maybe next if Nintendo decide to chuck massive Wii shipments along with Wii Fit shipments, however.
PS3 and 360 are niche products compared to Wii, nowadays. Even in the conservative gaming market of the US, and with the massive launch of GTA.
I think the biggest threat to Wii is Nintendo clearing its backlog of demand and not be able to do enough to keep demand massively high - PS3, 360, GTA, Halo 3 don't seem to make much effect.

I bet it's the former, but possibility of PS3 selling like crazy because of GTA4 is a high possibility, I just haven't heard any reports indicating that though.John_Doe said:Wii>PS3+360 and PS3>360? :lol
the question, GTA4 hardware effect bigger in april or may?
I thought you said that wouldn't be a shocker though, you were telling me you pretty much expected it (at least for MK).MobiusPigeon said:wii selling a crapload is the norm. a shocker would be mk doing just "ok" and the hd consoles eating wiis lunch finally like alot have been hoping for. nintendo fans would have a fit and ps360 fans would rejoice. that's the only thing i could think of outside of the 360 version of gta outselling the ps version 3 to 1. anything outside of those 2 scenarios is "meh"
I was tempted to put my 230k prediction for 360 up quite a lot and my 270k prediction for PS3 up quite a lot, but I stayed firm on my methods and didn't let GAF influence me.AniHawk said:I'm going to assume the vast majority of GAF overpredicted the PS360.
Well GTA4 is a big favourite here so it shouldn't be anything GTA4 related. And we *know* GTA4 is going to do great on both platforms. What would be shocking from hardly-core's point of view? Non-consoles and non-games outselling real consoles and real games with a big margin..? Spceulation, speculation...mr_bishiuk said:Tease!
Cant see what would be truly shocking though
Must be something beating GTA or maybe 360/PS3 GTA 3x the other or something
Microsoft released a statement about GTA IV's affect on hardware sales. In the last week of the month, it increased hardware by a measly 54%. Going off of averages from previous months (and assuming the weekly average hadn't decreased even further from March even though it decreased from April), I got about 88k for the week, about 240k for the month.GhaleonEB said:I didn't predict, so I can't make claims of how I expected things to go, but I'm thinking the Wii widened its lead even further.
I don't think it did either (though it would be amusing) if only because Nintendo hasn't said anything. But PS3 or 360 > Wii would be pretty megatonish, I agree. I don't think it's all that likely though.MobiusPigeon said:i expect mk to do so so. but ps360 owning wii? that would shock. mk can't do better than gta. i dunno about you guys but unless they shipped some insane amount of mks there have been too many out there for it to have bested either version of gta.
MobiusPigeon said:i expect mk to do so so. but ps360 owning wii?

AniHawk said:The PS360 total has outsold the Wii before. Either PS3 or 360 outselling the Wii would be huge though. That would be a truly monstrous week for GTA IV.

We already know this month is going to be huge as a whole, just on the back of GTA sales. 1m Wii sales in April would be pretty impressive I think, wouldn't that be by far the most ever outside a holiday month? I doubt they'll be that big though.MobiusPigeon said:if wii sells an insane amount as usual the big thing will be record breaking industry numbers as a whole. so that's my prediction. 1-gta 360 3 to 1, 2-ps360 owning wii, or 3-billions made this month as a WHOLE. anything else wouldn't be huge at all imo.
Not combined, but I can see it outselling each individual version.Nuclear Muffin said:No way is MKWii gonna touch GTA 4, not even close!
Y2Kev said:We have press releases from companies from earlier this week that makes half of these posted scenarios impossible. Think, people. Sonycowboy does this every time.
It's about Wii. It's massive Wii and/or DS numbers.
Then it would have had to sell more than Smash in its first week, right? Since we kind of know how much GTAIV sold. Wouldn't that have been a bigger opening than Brawl, the previous record-holder for NoA, and wouldn't we therefore have gotten a press release? 'Cause we didn't.Link said:Not combined, but I can see it outselling each individual version.
szaromir said:The biggest shocker would be GTA4 PS3 outselling GTA4 360 and that would really make GAF implode.
sonycowboy said:I've put this filter on all threads with NPD. You really, really, really don't want to see the industry numbers they just released. O M G. It's going to be painful and kill GAF.
Oblivion said:I doubt MK did that well. Otherwise Nintendo would have made a press release about it after the first week like Mario Galaxy.
Yeah, it's pretty much not gonna happen, but it's not completely impossible. I agree there would be a press release, though.Sharp said:Then it would have had to sell more than Smash in its first week, right? Since we kind of know how much GTAIV sold. Because this is the point when even the most thickheaded of cheerleaders will be forced to face facts. GTAIV is out. It came. It went. Wii stands unblemished.mr_bishiuk said:But why would that make Gaf die? it happens every month!
Kifimbo said:And SSBB.

mr_bishiuk said:Gta must have been beaten by some non game, that would be something I "really, really, really" don't want to see
Well, depends what you mean by "didn't do well." Expectations are pretty high, especially after strong European / Japanese initial sales (and legs) but I don't see that being a super megaton unless it totally bombed.Kifimbo said:And SSBB. Maybe it didn't do well at all ? I know I saw a lot of copies instore.
Imo this.Y2Kev said:Because this is the point when even the most thickheaded of cheerleaders will be forced to face facts. GTAIV is out. It came. It went. Wii stands unblemished.
polluar said:No way !!! SSBB did "only" 2.7 million copies last month. that's what GTA IV did in one hour on Xbox 360

Wii emerged as the top-selling console in April, according to the independent NPD Group, which tracks U.S. video game sales. Wii sold more than 714,000 units in April alone, bringing its lifetime sales in the United States to more than 9.5 million.
Wii sales were buoyed in part by the strong launch of Mario Kart Wii, which sold more than 1.1 million units, said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of Americas executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. Our belief in appealing to a broad, diverse audience of players continues to resonate with consumers, and we look forward to continuing our outreach to an expanded audience with the launch of Wii Fit next week.
Other Nintendo highlights from Aprils NPD report include:
* Mario Kart® Wii finished as the No. 2 game of the month.
* Six of the top 10 games of the month are for Nintendo systems: Mario Kart Wii (No. 2), Wii Play (No. 4), Super Smash Bros.® Brawl (No. 5), Pokémon® Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Darkness (No. 7), Pokémon® Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time (No. 8) and Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock (No. 9).
* Super Smash Bros. Brawl crossed the 3 million sales mark in the United States.
* Wii and Nintendo DS again finished as the two top-selling hardware systems.
