I'm generally pretty desensitised to violence in movies, but I remember the opening scene of Hellbound: Hellraiser 2 making me wince when I first saw it, mainly because it caught me off guard. I wasn't expecting the literal opening seconds of the film to have such a gory shot like that (it was almost framed like a jump scare). It was definitely memorable, though, and it lived inside my head rent-free for years.

When Robocop came out on VHS I was almost 7 years old and I wanted to watch it, I still don't know why or how I got interested in the movie, must have seen a trailer on TV or something. The neighbor kid who was a few years older than me just got the movie on VHS, but because of the content and my age, he would not let me watch while I was inside his house, but, he would let me watch the movie while I was outside his front door and could watch through a screened door. As a kid I always thought Robo was Robo, did not know his origin story, so the murder of Murphy scene shocked me, I don't think as a kid I fully understood what was going on, but I knew it was bad.

When I seen what happened Glen in the walking dead with Negan, it shocked me quite a lot at the time, but I wasn’t upset by it or anything as I know it wasn’t real. That scene is pretty brutal from memory.

I'm an horror fan that have probably watched more than 2.000 horror movies, and this was one of the only instances where I was "shocked" by gore.

Jump scares aren't inherently scary. They startle you. It's an easy "scare" but there are more nuanced exceptions ofcourse.

Wonder if your my old neighbour, we watched robocop with my neighbour and his two younger brothers at his house. I was around 13/14 I think same with him. His younger brother might have been a bit older. Still fun times. I am sure they didn’t want to stop watching g it.

First time I saw Braindead I balked at the level of gross out splatter. But the movie was kinda funny too so it took the edge off a bit. But holy shit, Peter Jackson went all out with the violence here.
