Don't compare Haze to lair and HS, there was never any hype for Haze.kpop100 said:Looks like this is going to join the ranks of Lair and Heavenly Sword for hyped PS3 games that turned out to be crap.
You brave, brave man.industrian said:I ordered Haze

Well as for Haze, I'm still enjoying it. Am I crazy? Feels like a good popcorn action (granted B movie) fps to keep me busy till NG2, MGS4, and AITD.![]()

the coop is seamless (i sound like a commercial), no lobbies or the game ending when people quit.
supports DS3 nicely too

Ha ha, I totally forgot about that game. I don't think Haze is quite THAT bad. Hour of Victory was broken beyond any playability. You could run around and take out an army of Nazis with your knife. Great fun.xray49er said:I thought the demo was ok nothing special. I got the game coming from gamefly but to me it sounds like this game is the ps3 version of hour of victory.
Yeah, that's one thing I'm wondering about. Everyone is shitting on this game as a result of the "hype", but outside of the actual marketing shit (who listens to that anyways?) nearly everyone has been crappy on this game for months. I think there were a handful of people that remained positive about it, but in general, most people seemed to expect a poor to mediocre game.Hyped? People have been shitting on the game since.. forever.
Now Second Sight was good fun. That was probably the only Free Radical game I've really enjoyed. It had its share of flaws, but the experience was still very solid. Hopefully you selected the superior XBOX version (60 fps). If not, well, I suppose it should still be acceptable.Well now I've done it. I ordered Haze (and Second Sight) from VGP. Busty said:That's true. I spent hours toying with this mode on the Gamecube. It's strange to think at that point Free Radical were so far ahead of the curve in this regard.

Tell me this game is rife with Frisky Dingo references....
FabCam said:OK, I have the game and have played SP until the switch. I'll give my quick impressions:
Firstly, how the fuck did IGN manage to give this game a 4.5? Seriously.
I'm not saying the game is perfect, it has major flaws but from what I've played it is easily a 7/10 but has major lows as well as major highs.
That's the problem. It's so variable. Everything turns from good to bad to good. I'll start off with GFX and sound. Whilst the GFX aren't amazing they're decent. Some textures looks really detailed, but then some look horrible. You'll go from one section where everything looks super detailed then you'll go through to a next section and it'll look like crap. However, something that is consistent is the frame rate. Never has it died even when loads of stuff is happening on screen. Also something that is really good is the particle effects. When grenades blow it looks beautiful. Finally I love that they use colour. I'm not against the Gears and Unreal look of games, but it's a breath of fresh to see some colours in a game. The audio is also variable. The sound of guns and grenades is really good. It actually sounds a lot better when you have a Nectar Disruption. However, some of the voice work is terrible. Some of the characters are really well done like Morgan and Skin coat, but some of the soldiers sound disgusting.
Onto gameplay. Again it's variable. Some of the set pieces are awesome. When you're all dosed up on Nectar it's a great feeling to be sniping guys off from afar. The best bits are fighting through narrow corridors - the fights get pretty intense. However, some bits are lame. When you just have a huge open sparse area to clear it feels kind of boring. This also leads onto the AI. In narrow corridor type environments, they work fine. They take cover and fire at all your team not ignoring all other people and just attacking you. However, in open environments you can really see how flawed they are. They stick to preset areas and if you flank them they won't notice until you fire at them.
I also dipped into multiplayer. It was fun. We had to defend out Nectar and wait for it to be extracted down river. Whilst the rebels were trying to blow it up. The map felt a little large, but it may be because I was just wondering around and didn't have a clue of where I was.
Also. It seems free DLC is coming. Maybe more online maps?

I looked through options and couldn't find anything there either. So either it's a misprint, I haven't turned it on, or it is used so sparingly that it doesn't get used once in the first 20 minutes

Smokey Bones said:And I'll say it again, the vehicles and their controls are trash. Pure trash.
Well, Crysis does indeed feature awful vehicle controls, but most of those vehicles are optional. They basically work as set pieces that also allow optional control if you wish. You do have to take control of an aircraft of some sort later in the game, but this actually handles decently.industrian said:FabCam: Will you be updating the OP?
Worse than Crysis?

Now. How many of you people in this thread blasting Free Radical have played HAZE yet? *Crickets* okay. I'd love to hear some impressions from those who actually played it and hear what the problems were.

Blimblim said:Got to play and watch some Haze tonight. What a mess this game is. I just can't believe they released such an obviously unfinished game. In my rather short playtime I've seen more collision bugs, LOD/shadowing issues than in a full playthrough of most games. One example, walk to a Mantel car (or whatever it's called) and keep pressing up. Yep, it looks like your character is having a seizure or something, going up and down like this.
Gunplay isn't too bad, and the nectar stuff works nicely (though it's more like they made the game almost unplayable because you can't see shit without it), but the vehicle handling is just terrible. There is no word to describe how laughable they are to drive.
I'm not a FPS specialist by any means, but I definitely can "judge" when one is broken. And HAZE most definitely is. I honestly wonder if the whole delay wasn't a marketing ploy by Ubisoft and the game was actually "finished" for months.
For you comparison freaks, hour of victory was much worse than this, HoV is the buggiest piece of shit of a game I've seen during this generation. But HAZE is definitely among the worst of the lot.
