Haze Official Thread, JCBossman Memorial and Skittles Appreciation. BOOSH!

The Game Trailers review just makes me wonder what FR was doing during the delay that this game has. Because they sure as hell didn't polish it.

Stacking up the monies so that korn could make a shitty song for the game.

Normally I would laugh about stuff like this. However, an exclusive game for the PS3 being horrible isn't something potential developers need to see. It's already hard enough for me trying to find something worthwhile to add to my PS3 collection (thank god for Uncharted and soon MGS4) and this is just disappointing. It's really a great piece of hardware, please give us equal games. :(

wow this game looks like ass if that GT review is anything to go by. Its like the PS3's Perfect Dark Zero.

Not if we were to go by Gametrailers scale: http://www.gametrailers.com/player/8606.html

and I do like that the Gametrailers review of Haze did bring up multiplayer. All the other reviews hate on single player for aspects like weak AI and all that, but like CoD4 proved, sometimes great multiplayer can make up for having a shitty single player. Haze didn't look to hae good multiplayer, but at least they brought it up.

im not talking about the review, im talking about seeing the game in motion. It did not look polished at all, the graphics were very subpar, the gunplay and weapons looked dime-a-dozen.

Bwahaha, no.

Perfect Dark Zero was a launch title to a next-gen system of a sequel to an incredibly promising franchise. And it bombed hard.

Haze was fairly tepid throughout the pre-hype, and now it's going to be put through the ringer. But even though it's worse than PDZ, it still doesn't compare to how much PDZ had going for it before release. :(

you guys can shit on pdz all you want but it is at they very least a good multiplayer game.

Actually, Perfect Dark Zero was a critically acclaimed game with an average of 81% across 97 media outlets - It received 27 reviews in the 90s, and 42 reviews in the 80s.

It sold well too, pushing well over a million units. It also featured one of the most solid, entertaining multiplayer experiences for it's time.

Still doesn't change the fact that it was such a letdown. I seriously, seriously doubt anyone would like to think PDZ is the true sequel to Perfect Dark. It's not anywhere near as good.

Which makes it three times better than Haze, apparently.

Honestly, after putting some time into Haze, it comes off feeling very much like Killzone. Neat ideas, some fun gameplay, but flawed. Thats my 2 cents :D

Extra pixels doesn't mean automatically better. Shit will still look bad and gameplay will still be poor. Ok, so maybe the ugly geometry and textures will be slightly less blurry and more sharp, but that is about it.

I played a bit more last night and finally felt some rumble :D I overdosed on Nectar and the pad shook for about half a second. So at least I know my pad is fine and they didn't remove rumble from the PAL version

Uh, wow. Hell, Halo 1 had a more visually interesting flamethrower than that :lol

PDZ had an excuse. It was ported from Xbox 1, and it was a launch title. And it came out in November 2005.

I played until just after the switch. The game is almost textbook mediocre. The jungle looked pretty good, then the next level didn't look as good and the beach looks horrible. Using nectar can be kind of fun, and I definitely liked the nectar malfunction sequences. I'm playing on normal and apart from the atrociously horrid vehicle segments I've almost never died.

As far as second-tier shooters go, it's way better than Turok and Turning Point, but I don't think it's nearly as good as Timeshift or Blacksite.

If a game turns out better on the 360 then it was because of more experience with the hardware or it was the lead platform.

If it turns out better on the PS3 it's because the developer wasn't lazy and made the game to take advantage of the immeasurable power of the Cells.

That is a short summary of how the inevitable thread will flow.

Are there any more developer excuses? I want to hear a new one now that pretty much everyone took a big dump on this game. :lol

Y'all are smokin' of you think this game is better than PDZ. Sure PDZ's campaign couldn't stack up to the original on the N64, but the multiplayer was played for months by a lot of us Xbox 360 owners as it was so addicting and deep. People forget how many options and modes that PDZ featured, plus launch titles are never expected to be good. HAZE had hype surrounding it as a "Halo Killer" and it failed miserably.

IIRC Killzone is a much better shooter than teh Haze. Not perfect, but at least it had an interesting plot which made you play through the game. Haze is just an anomoly.

After playing the demo, reading reviews and opinions here on GAF, and watching video reviews like the Gametrailers one, I stand by what I said earlier in this thread: the 4.5 score from IGN US, the 4/10 from Eurogamer, or the 2/5 from Gamespy are quite unfair and smack of bias or incompetent reviewing. So does the 34/40 from Famitsu, for that matter.

This game is an average, even mediocre, shooter in the 5.5-6.5/10 region, but there's no way it deserves the kind of harsh treatment is getting from some media not generally keen on anything PS3-related for some reason. Oh, wait, it's a PS3 exclusive... (a timed one, but what the heck).

Oh, before someone starts with the "fanboy" calling, let me add that I have both the 360 and PS3 and I enjoy both consoles. I just don't happen to like the two weights, two measures treatment that some media are inflicting on one of the consoles, for reasons only known to them.

^^
When you've gone out of your way to sign up exclusive rights for a game and then that said game turns out to be a pile of shite, it gives your system a bad rep! It doesn't do it any favours if you know what I mean :]

Oh drop the fucking consipracy bullshit, the game failed to live up to what FRD said it would achieve and thus reviewers laid the smack down upon it, while I wouldn't rate is as badly as say...Turning Point (Oh god Codies, why?). but frankly after what was promised (And again, Turning point, while promoted like any other average game, was never hyped as a revlelation to the FPS Genre), it deserved the stick it has got.

Oh, the "I own both consoles" argument holds no water either, it is clear where your loyalities lie, which is fine, just don't try to use a smokescreen like that.

I didn't say ANYTHING about conspiracy. Bias does not have to be part of a conspiracy.

And just because a game does not live up to its hype, it doesn't mean it should get slammed by reviewers. If that's the reason for some of the abysmal scores, then that's poor reviewing. A game should be reviewed in its own merit, and this hasn't been the case with Haze.

Oh, and "loyalties"??? WTF dude, we're talking video games here

Oh, so its just happens to be that the media hate the PS3 then? got it.

Anyway, yes, if a game promises the world and delivers an IOU it should get slammed, especially if a game is being advertised as such. if a game is allowed to be advertised as "An adult Halo 3", reviewers hold the right to say "Oh no it bloody well isn't". In any case, if you read IGNs Gamespots and Eurogamers reviews, they all had legitimate issues with the game, they all scored based on their merit systems.

PDZ will still probably outsell Haze.

Nope. Wrong the first time, wrong this time too. I suggest you look up the word "bias" in a dictionary.

That's your view, I disagree. A year from now, if someone is considering picking up this game and reads some reviews to make up their mind, they won't remember how much hype this game got pre-release, or they wont care by then. So naturally they'll be expecting the reviews to judge the game STRICTLY in its own merits, irrespective of the prior hype.

It's how they translated those issues into a score I have problems with.

Crappy AI [check]
Many visual bugs [check]
Short game [check]
Bad story [check]
Gimmick game-play mechanics [check]
Bugs [check]
Weak Multi [check]
Bad voice acting [check]

If a game consists of all of those things, it deserves the shitty reviews it received, keep in mind also Haze has been delayed numerous times. There is no reason for Haze to be this shitty.

Why are people so trying to justify their PS3 purchase without merit? If the system has no games than just admit it and move on. I own a PS3 and admittedly many of the games are crap, and the Wii arguably has a better line-up. Get over it people and quit trying to make every new PS3 game that comes out "TEH MEGATON"!

There's nothing wrong with selling your PS3 in favor of a 360 or a Wii, because Sony's latest system will NEVER live up to the PS2 or even the PS1 in the software department. The PS3 will end up as the GameCube of the current generation, whether you guys like it or not. Geez!

Yeah why can't those people be unbiased like you...

Just saw the GT review, I agree with most of it although I would rate the story higher than 4.3.

Anyways, I'll give some Team Assault online impressions:

These are mostly fun, but two stand out to me. First of all is the missile level. There is a missile carrier in the middle of the map and you have to detonate it against the Mantel troopers (I only played as a rebel here). It's a huge truck and has to be driven back to your base in order to be fired. It's a good sniping map as there's a central road with hills and empty buildings to either side. As the driver, you are an easy target as it's very slow moving and the cabin is open. A lot of teamplay is involved is it's great fun when the teams are evn and the truck is going back and forth between the two teams.

The second is the prison level. As a rebel, you start off as a prisoner trying to escape whilst the Mantel troops are trying to kill you. As an escapee your hands are bound together, but you can kick. Also, you can play dead which helps a lot. The map is raining and it's night time, so when you're trying to escape you hide in the shadows. You need to get to one of the three extraction points where you call a chopper and get evacuated. Now you return as a rebel soldier with guns and nectar cover knifes. Now you have to help the remaining prisoners escape. However, if you get killed a certain amount of times as a soldier (I think it's 5), you respawn as a prisoner and have to escape again.

So far it's a lot of fun, but the merit system is kind of pointless as it doesn't seem to unlock anything.

Really? What's the difference between a 5.5 and a 4.0? Either way 99% people that READ the review without just looking at the score will not pick it up.

Fucking amen. Infection sealed the deal for me and Xbox Live. The people who shit on PDZ could not have spent more than twenty seconds in an Infection game.

Just not possible.

Maybe it's just the lower resolution but I think the game looks great technically. I don't see any "bad textures" as mentioned in the gametrailers review.
