Haze Official Thread, JCBossman Memorial and Skittles Appreciation. BOOSH!

Hmmm.
There is a double bit of irony here though. Are you speaking about the poster or the people who dished out 60 dollars for a mediocre game? There are hundreds of other much better games that could have been bought instead.

:lol :lol :lol

Is this like the "worst game" to ever get an official thread done up like this? :lol

(I haven't actually played it yet, hence the quotations.)

Oh yeah sure it is :lol

Turning Point didn't have Haze's vehicles. It also had Nazis and an good soundtrack.

Just finished the control-the-helicopter-turret sequence, at least it wasn't as bad/long as the one in Stranglehold.

How could anyone not tell this game would be horrible/

Optimism, differences in taste, susceptibility to upbeat interviews and deception by screenshots. I guess that I thought it would either look nice or play well. To hear that it arguably does neither is a bit of a blow.

well the online multiplayer is pretty good, you can pick either soldier or rebel....most everyone picks the soldiers, at least the best players, for the nectar.

---it's got a great, intense free for all deathmatch mode. this game probably has the best sniper rifle in any game online, at least on consoles.

all you really have to do is turn off the auto aim and turn off the camera shaking as well, it's pretty sweet....if you give it a chance.

of course if you dont like fps games why bother.

HAZE imo.

played the demo bit. This game would be better with no cutscenes. The LOD on the ship is ridiculous. Like I said last time, the game is just ugly. It's a shame. The character models aren't so bad, but the environments are hideously ugly. Shiteous.

The dialog is obnoxious and unfunny and unclever and everything. It's like getting hit over the head with this stupid garbage.

I still think the gameplay is pretty solid. The enemy AI is better than COD4. I think it's probably more fun than that awful single player anyway.

But god the presentation is embarrassing.

I am considering renting the game now just for the co-op. I don't know why, but I have co-op fever today and I even was playing some PDZ co-op just now (the game is actually better than I remembered it outside of the controls).

Yeah, everyone I know has told me about what a terrible game this is : (
Oh, except for the ones who have played it.
Might have to get this next week..

I really dont know how free radical could have got this so wrong, poor graphics you could forgive for a long and detailed campaign but it really isnt.

Dont know if they lost some creative guys or key programmers but the spark has certainly gone missing.

It's only worse then Turning Point because of Turning Point's horrendous frame rate and loading problems.

Haze is better than Turning Point by default, as the latter game's only USP was "Nazis invade the USA, GO USA!!"

Just got the game yesterday and I've been enjoying myself so far. It's not nearly as bad as some people have been making it seem. While the graphics are something to bitch about, the gameplay is very solid. And for some the story is awful, for me, it's funny. Anyways, I really think that all the hype surrounding this game made it get a way lower score than it deserves. I think it'd be fair to give it a 7-7.5/10, but definitely not a 4.5/10.

And whoever mentioned timeshift in this thread...this game is ten times better than that pile of crap.

Did you try to refute me be saying USP?

Have you even played Turning Point?

Anyway, I think I'm nearly at the end of Haze and the level design certainly gets a bit better (though the vehicle segments get worse). If I wasn't a big fan of shooters to begin with I would have quit by now. I guess I just like shooting stuff.

USP = Unique Selling Point. Turning Point came across as a game sold on it's "Go USA!" attitude, and not based on it's quality or integrity. Whereas Haze at least attempted something "alternative" with it's storyline and the Nectar involvement (which may or may not have fallen flat on it's face depending on your opinion.)

And before this post goes any further, do not interpret my posts as an attack on your opinion, as it is not.

I was interested in the premise of Turning Point when it first emerged as I have a hard on for alternative history based fiction. Then I realised that (as I mentioned before) the game's advertising and primary focus revolved around basic jingoist themes. Combined with the slaughtering it attained critically, and the lack of a demo for the PlayStation 3, I decided to stay away.

There's nothing wrong with liking shooting stuff. :) I'm not expecting Call of Duty 4 or Resistance quality gameplay from Haze. It's bound to be on the same level (if not better) than Killzone on the PS2, so it should satisfy me until MGS4 blesses me with it's arrival.

FYI: I'm pretty sure there's a PS3 demo for Turning Point. This isn't to say that I think Turning Point is good; it was a neat idea with a horrid technical implementation.

I liked the end of Haze's story. Not great but not bad. For $20-30 I'd say go for it. In the end it's better then Turok, The Darkness, Turning Point and the horrid PS3 port of Blacksite. I'd play Timeshift and the 360 version of Blacksite before this. I enjoyed it about as much as Stranglehold.

There's not. Unless it's hidden in some specific European store or something.

I'd say that the same goes for the majority of the games released so far on the 360 and PS3.

If it's better than The Darkness then I'll enjoy it as I'm one of the few people who liked it.

Shit I loved The Darkness.

Turning Point is only a game I'd subject myself to for its premise alone and only under the notion that I paid 5 bucks for it.

As someone mentioned earlier and I've stated before. This feels exactly like Killzone in many ways. Lots of good ideas, some good shooting parts, iffy vehicles, but neat story ideas, and WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY OVERHYPED BEYOND RECOGNITION! Just like Killzone and therefore getting low scores. Its not the best in the genre but then again, very few are. Yet I'm finding it enjoyable and its apparent I'm not the only one.

yeah the darkness was pretty awesome

Got to play some haze at a friends house its ok the single player is so over top I couldn't help but like it and the multi was good too I'll buy haze when it drops to $40

You know I was just playing Lost Planet online, and I was amazed at the amount of people that actually liked the demo and got the game. Someone also mentioned other people got the game for some $5k tournament?

How was Haze overhyped? It's been dumped on almost since it was unveiled.

Killzone was another game that was completely hamstrung by a dodgy framerate a numerous other technical issues. Haze has none of these; it never froze on me, it didn't drop to 10 fps during some fire-fights, or have awkward controls. I don't think the comparison is at all accurate.

That's not to say that Haze is good. It's just technically sound.

Just finished Haze! Final score (Story Mode) 7. The ending was unexpected and ironic, Over all it was a safe game; in saying that I mean the story and game play don't stray far from the path you are put on when you first start. Haze could have been more, it should have been more, but its still OK.

i was going to get this but my budget can only fit MGS4 and DBZ for now but when I get the chance I will get HAZE. It's a shame it got such a bashing when other games don't get half the bashing that HAZE did.

Well the media has been talking about Haze tons and the hype build up alone by just the PS3 fanbase really damaged the title imo. As for Killzone, it was another somewhat decent game that had alot of talk behind it and ended up being fairly standard FPS. Enjoyable to most but the best of the best? Hardly.

Thats all I'm trying to say.

Though GAF shits on the game, Haze has been hyped by the media big time. Just look at Haze's website and it's full of quotes from random publications (including EDGE) about how great the game will be. And if some of the media coverage was negative, it was just getting a lot of hype for being an exclusive.

And I have to say I think that Killzone is a great comparison to Haze. Sure, it didn't have the SAME exact problems, but the hype and resulting reviews have had the same effect upon each game.

I've been keeping this to myself, but since this has turned into a Haze bashfest I thought I'd ask if anyone else thinks Nectar was kind of ripped off from Phazon in MP3: Corruption?

Hrm, kay then, just wondering if anyone thought along the same lines.

Am I correct in thinking the whole "limited powerup/drug enhancer in FPSs" thing has been around for a while, though?

I'm still a level or two from completion, but I haven't seen anything that elevates Haze over Turok, Turning Point, or Blacksite. And The Darkness is much, much better.

The voice acting sounds like it was translated from Ukranian and the actors don't really understand English but are speaking phonetically.

Turning point is the one you start out as a "Steelworker" on a unfinished Skyscraper right? It was alright nothing special, like Blacksite(both played on a 360) I have to say at this point I have TOTALLY lost interest in EVER getting a PS3, I was seriously considering ponying up for that MSG4 80gb job, but now I am getting jaded. I already have a 360 with a TON of decent to better shit I haven't even touched, EDF, Just Cause, Prey, The Darkness, Stranglehold, Keamo, Viva Pinata, Chromehounds, Burnout Paradise, Full Auto, Stranglehold, Mass Effect(yeh I know) and a Bunch of 360 arcade stuff. A few of those titles like Prey and just Cause I own just haven't had a chance to touch. So I am thinking why would I be interested in a PS3? For Resistance... Eh looks O.K. (solid but not mind blowing) for Heavenly Sword...eh NG2 looks WAY better, for Uncharted, OK THAT one is fairly unique and looks great. But come on this is disgusting... a quote "More powerful" system nearly ALWAYS getting beat by a cheaper/older system...This Didn't happen when I owned a OG Xbox, I played Half Life 2, Doom 3, Fable, and THE BEST VERSIONS of damn near EVERY cross platform game, my GTA:SA way WAY better than the PS2 version that Rockstar MADE IT FOR, Go Figure...

goddamn this game fucking fails harder then i could ever have imagined. it is practically unplayable to me with the sensitivity the game sets you at.

the first thing i do when i fire up an fps is jack up the sensitivity settings.

grr...i'll try to adjust just to finish it at least.

Tried out the demo...holy crap, what totally dull game. Graphics, gameplay, voice acting, everything was atrocious. Is the demo indicative of the full game? This is Lair-level disaster...so sad.

Why are people so trying to justify their PS3 purchase without merit? If the system has no games than just admit it and move on. I own a PS3 and admittedly many of the games are crap, and the Wii arguably has a better line-up. Get over it people and quit trying to make every new PS3 game that comes out "TEH MEGATON"!

There's nothing wrong with selling your PS3 in favor of a 360 or a Wii, because Sony's latest system will NEVER live up to the PS2 or even the PS1 in the software department. The PS3 will end up as the GameCube of the current generation, whether you guys like it or not. Geez!

Wow

Those screens look damn good.

I've tried to refrain from jumping in this thread because I really don't have a concern with this game, the thread is entertaining in it's own right, but those off screen grabs are not good, not by a long shot.

I love it how you guys try to spin this in Haze is good :lol

As Big time Time Splitters fan (and in less extend a FR fan), I acknowledge this game is well to say the least a turd.
People get over it and move on, not all exclusive PS3 games are good...
This thread is LAIR all over again.
