Also closest we've got to a look behind the plastic shell, very cool its simply the black glossy part you take (Slide?) off to replace the HDD, really admire the PS4 console design the more and more I see more of it, not so surprising though considering the amount of hardware Sony makes.

I have to say too, PS4 stripdown! Yes! Would love to see how everything is organized inside!

Did hard drives go up price? That thing is like $125 after shipping, I could have sworn someone linked me to 1 TB HDD for like $70 off Amazon like 6 months ago that I bought that still works great in one of my PS3.

That may be, but I would bet still be they're NDAed to hell on that stuff. Maybe they can offer general impressions, but you're not going to see the motherboard laid bare. Maybe I'm totally wrong, but complete teardowns seem like something we wouldn't get until later.

I've always read that 7200 rpm drives could overheat the PS3. I'm ordering a 5400 to be on the safe side.

Many, the heat difference is minimal and a non-issue. I would hope they're going with 7200 RPM drives this time though the transfer speeds between the HDD and PS4 should be a faster anyway compared to the PS3 and its standard 5400RPM drive.

Going to wait with upgrades until the external HDD sitation is clarified. If I can run a big external drive for mass storage through usb 3.0, I would seriously consider putting a SSD in the PS4 for speedy loads etc. for the few games I'm currently playing while keeping other stuff for safekeeping on the bigger external drive. Big bonus if it's possible to easily move things back and forth between the two storage units.

Yeah it should work. A 2.5" SATA drive that has a max height of 9.55mm should fit in the HDD caddy. Anything above a 9.55mm height might have issues fitting into the caddy so you want to avoid purchasing one before we get confirmation for the max height that will fit in.
