Here is how replacing your HDD on PS4 works (ComputerBild)

Not sure why if you weren't standing the PS4 up you couldn't put a new drive in without the cage. That might offer enough room for the taller drive.

Ha ha! Thats amazing! PS themed screws, very nice touch!
Also closest we've got to a look behind the plastic shell, very cool its simply the black glossy part you take (Slide?) off to replace the HDD, really admire the PS4 console design the more and more I see more of it, not so surprising though considering the amount of hardware Sony makes.

I have to say too, PS4 stripdown! Yes! Would love to see how everything is organized inside!

There won't be a stripdown until after launch. I'm sure all that paperwork in the unboxing video explains that all that sort of stuff isn't allowed.

They wrote that they're gonna take a closer look inside the PS4 tomorrow.

That may be, but I would bet still be they're NDAed to hell on that stuff. Maybe they can offer general impressions, but you're not going to see the motherboard laid bare. Maybe I'm totally wrong, but complete teardowns seem like something we wouldn't get until later.

They should sell custom designed versions of that bit that lifts off.

I'd buy one that isn't glossy and matched the rest of the console.

First thing that came to mind to me, well ignoring that damn fancy screw. Could totally see Sony do what Nintendo did with the GameCube circle top and MS with the front cover they one day stopped doing.

Look at that family:

ps3 super slim should of been more edgy, to fit in with the rest of the family...

Did hard drives go up price? That thing is like $125 after shipping, I could have sworn someone linked me to 1 TB HDD for like $70 off Amazon like 6 months ago that I bought that still works great in one of my PS3.

Its the only 1.5tb 9mm 2.5 HDD currently available

Assuming it's 5400 drive, does anyone think there'd be a heat issue if I tossed in a 7200? Anyone try this with a PS3?

Man, I'd better buy my 1TB drive now before everyone in this thread clears Amazon's stock!

I've always read that 7200 rpm drives could overheat the PS3. I'm ordering a 5400 to be on the safe side.

Many, the heat difference is minimal and a non-issue. I would hope they're going with 7200 RPM drives this time though the transfer speeds between the HDD and PS4 should be a faster anyway compared to the PS3 and its standard 5400RPM drive.

I've got a 5400rpm 1GB HDD in my PS3.

Could I take that out, and put it in my PS4? Then take the 500GB one from the PS4, and put that in my PS3?

Assuming PS4 is 5400rpm again.

If that screw is Sony's idea of an apology for that POS blue screw in the PS3 then apology accepted. All my money.

Going to wait with upgrades until the external HDD sitation is clarified. If I can run a big external drive for mass storage through usb 3.0, I would seriously consider putting a SSD in the PS4 for speedy loads etc. for the few games I'm currently playing while keeping other stuff for safekeeping on the bigger external drive. Big bonus if it's possible to easily move things back and forth between the two storage units.

This one will work, right? I know they have to be 2.5'' but I don't know about the other specs. HDDs are kind of foreign to me.

Yeah it should work. A 2.5" SATA drive that has a max height of 9.55mm should fit in the HDD caddy. Anything above a 9.55mm height might have issues fitting into the caddy so you want to avoid purchasing one before we get confirmation for the max height that will fit in.

Isn't PS4 saving those last 15 minute recordings to the HDD all the time? That would outright kill any SSD in a few months no?
