Here is how replacing your HDD on PS4 works (ComputerBild)

Are they gonna do a full teardown? I want to see the PSU and the fans to have a better idea how the cooling works. This machine is so small and looks perfectly designed.

So do we actually know what type of 2.5mm drive is installed? Wasn't there a rumour that an SSHD was installed to begin with? At least being in Australia I can wait for USA impressions of the final retail model before I decide what type to buy...

I'm going to wait at least 6 months before changing out my HDD. That will give plenty of time for people to find out what works best.

I've got a 5400rpm 1GB HDD in my PS3.

Could I take that out, and put it in my PS4? Then take the 500GB one from the PS4, and put that in my PS3?

Assuming PS4 is 5400rpm again.

That's what I plan on doing, if it turns out those hybrid drives really make a big difference after some have tested it with PS4 I will buy one of those down the line on sale. I never had those pop up issues I seen videos of like in GTAV digital, stuff like that is pretty bad but both my systems are Slims so maybe that has something to do with not having those problems.

Gotta love Teardown Fridays.

Any bets on if the heatsink and fan will be fairly standard this time, or balls out custom?

The way I see it, is if the PS4 contains a 7200rpm drive I'll buy a bigger one of that. If it contains a 5400rpm drive I'm buying an SSHD(as all SSHD's available in Australia are 5400rpm). I don't think it's possible for SSHD to negatively impact performance is it?

how many people are planning on both upgrading their internal ps4 hard drive and also using an external drive (when support comes, won't be available at launch)

still undecided tbh

I don't see why. If I did the internal it would be at least 750GB. I don't need multiple terabytes on a console. And even if I did, still one external drive would suffice. Although I guess one with enough money to burn would still want a fast internal SSD for load times, and an external drive for movies etc.

I couldn't see what's the big deal about the screw when I first read this thread on my iPhone. But now I'm on my desktop, HOLY TRIANGLE! That looks like one quality, expensive screw.

Look at that family:

*tear* So beautiful.
It'd probably look better with the PS3 Slim(not super Slim), with the matte finish and all.

Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't the PS3 quite a bit faster wiith SSD/SSHDs? I'm thinking a 1TB SSHD should go in there at 12:01am on 11/15 for my PS4.

So that's where it is! Haha, so cool. And that screw...how can a gamer not smile at that? It reminds me of the Vita's rear touch panel. So cool!

Has Sony even said they will support external drives?

No but I hope they do given the amount of 50GB games we're going to have. A year or so from now when PS+ is in full swing, 500GB or 1TB is going to look rather paltry. Hell, it already does.

Yeah because faceplates really took off....

Not sure why I laughed so hard at this. Might be the post + avatar combo.

Went out and got my 1TB today. I'll never have that many games installed at once to fill that thing.

I'd probably fill that easily, as five years of digital purchases and about two years of PS+ have filled my 320GB easily. So much so, that I've needed to delete games to make space for more, and postpone downloading some PS+ offerings due to the lack of space. Now, imagine +5 years of PS+.

Zum Start eine Info zum Geräuschpegel der PS4. Bisher lief das Gerät nicht unter Volllast. Im Menümodus war die Konsole nicht zu hören – ein deutlicher Unterschied zur Playstation 3.

They say the console didn't run at full load yet, but in the menus you can't even hear it. That's nice. Bodes well for silent movie playback, since movie playback only uses very little resources.
