Home Presentation @ E3 (New Features)

It would also be awesome if they'd make a display room / area for your PS2 save game icons. Some of those animated icons were great and I'd rather move them into my Home file and save some room on my PS2 memory cards.

Sign up for a Playstation Underground account regardless
even if u don't get in this beta, plenty coming up (LBP, hello?)

Haven't seen anyone post this yet (though I've seen it for some days) but here are some bits from a E3 GameInformer interview with Phil Harrison:

GI: At GDC, you introduced the Home setup with your Hall of Fame and trophies, yet most of the developers I’ve spoken with don’t know anything about it and haven’t gotten the software, or don’t have the know how to implement them into their games. It seemed to escape everything at this press conference, and even the first-party developers that I’ve spoken with say, most likely they aren’t going to be able to get them into their games this year. What’s going on with that?

Harrison: We’ve built Home on top of the core libraries of the PlayStation Network platform. The trophy functionality is going into PlayStation Network libraries in the next revision, which will be in August.

GI: So, will we see first-party games this year with trophies in them?

Harrison: I hope so. I mean, this is a long-term plan. Yes it would be great to have all games enabled with trophies this holiday season, but we’ll see that roll out as quickly as we can, but we want to get it right and make sure that it’s a fun and rewarding mechanism for everyone.

GI: Will this system be backwards compatible with games that are already out? Will you be able to patch for example Resistance, MotorStorm, and Lair?

Harrison: Yes. We’re looking into a couple of different way of doing that but yes, we hope to be able to retro-award trophies.

GI
: Will you have a score? I know I’m comparing Achievements versus Trophies, but people walk around and wear that score as a badge of honor. Reiner from the magazine has a Gamer Score of 35,000, and he’s Mr. Big Shot. I just cleared 3,000 and I think I’m doing OK. People like wearing that badge of honor, so how are you guys going to do that?

Harrison: We have something, which I can’t share with you today, but we are going to do something which is…how can I answer this without answering it. (laughs)

GI: Well, you can answer it! (laughs)

Harrison
: So Gamer Points is kind of macro where that is persistent over all of the games that you play, and then you’ve got the micro based on the individual games. So that idea of being awarded for skill in that particular game, having that mechanism that arches over that entire library – we will have something that performs that function in a different way than points.

The last part there about a points system is interesting because he vaguely touched this back in March as well. Maybe these non points can be consumed or something? Or maybe it's something different like graphs or something.

someone who was at sony before the somewhat-recent firing told me that the awards would be like a form of currency, usable in HOME. personally i love that idea. biggest "gamerscore" would translate to biggest and most tricked out apartment.

I guess this must mean that they have a 'gamer credit' shop somewhere within Home where they can trade these credits for items that are basically 'non profit'. They can't let this thing eat into other companies profit items (though I'm all for that but I don't see that happening).
Or maybe it simply just unlocks extra stuff with the points/credit staying consistent.

Meet at private space

launch motorstorm online

lobby automatically created

This is EXACTLY what every online ps3 game needs. Excellent.

I would add on ...

Quit motorstorm lobby

Everyone goes back to the home private space.

If this actually works as described then Xbox live is redundant to me this is actually cross game party play which xbox live does not offer, IF it works as described i will buy all the multi platform games on PS3 from then on

You will go straight back to Home when quitting that application. If they have a direct boot up to Home with the console it might be seldom I visit the XMB (expect on PS Store thursdays).

I presumed i would go back to home but i want to go back to home with the same people i was playing the game with we then decide to play a different game and the loop starts again:D

Cross game party play at its finest, i just hope they pull it off in all games not just first party ones

Well, you end up in the same position as you logged off at in Home so I would expect that to be the case, same peoples and such.

wow that will be great if it works as described i dont see how MS will be able to charge for Xbox live anymore..?

The closest xbox live comes to party play is in single games like halo, shadowrun.. and not many of them

About Us
The Sony Protection Group (SPG) is a site, group, and movement created to preserve the image of Sony and focus on positive news.

SPG was founded due to the negativity and hatred being displayed towards Sony. Instead of spreading lies, FUD, and rumors like most gaming websites, we at SPG are trying to build a place for Sony fans and PlayStation fans to get the real facts.

The SPG focuses on what is good and positive about our favorite gaming console, the PlayStation. As users of the PlayStation brand, we are well placed to explore the best and worst of the systems we have chosen. While some of us feel that Sony makes the superior console and handheld system, we encourage our writers and our members to focus on the positive aspects of PlayStation gaming without the need to ridicule other people's console choice.

To our readers and visitors we wish you happy gaming!

wow... Just... WOW.....
