None of these are from cutscenes, they are legit in-game character models, during gameplay, zoomed in, captured myself during play time last night.

God bless Guerilla.

This is a gigantic leap forward and we are in for an insane generation.

All in all, the game looks like a playable Micheal Bay Transformers movie and I don't think the media made it a big enough deal. Its filthy.

agreed. i’m constantly amazed at it, but also sad knowing they are always a generation ahead of everyone else, which means this is the only time we’ll enjoy this stuff. even watching videos of Elden Ring i’m just like “well… that sure looks old and ugly” in comparison (obviously it’s not, but in comparison to HFW everything is ugly)

The character models are almost too good. Feel like they're in front of a green screen or something. At least the early ones at times.

It's almost an uncanny Valley feel with how well it's mocapped with the facial animations and eye trackings.

Only fear I have with fidelity jumps like this now is that they'll do what Ubisoft did with AC: Unity and decide all that capture was too expensive and animating by hand is just as good. It must cost a lot of money to do that for every side quest, was there some breakthrough that means its become way cheaper/easier to do in the last 5 years or so?

Development of object and so on is getting easier and easier, soon this will be possible:

The personalities of the NPCs are usually the highlight of the conversations. And the character models add sooo much to their personalities.

I imagine playing other open world games and not think of Horizon as the new standard in this area
Paint that tower black and the sparkles white and that pic could be used for the inevitable porn version movie poster.

Game is gorgeous. Guerilla Games are gods, best developers IMO

cant wait to see what their B team does with SOCOM 5

Some of them cross into uncanny valley, its the eyes darting everywhere like a mosquito is flying around them.
For open world the best is Red Dead Redemption 2 followed by Cp2077.
For non- open world its Last of Us 2.

Mckmaster uses MasterCard to buy Slave drives
And aloy is not even the most realistic face in the game.

Between dinobots and human characters, good luck to whoever is gonna do the next big open world action rpg.

And don't forget the animals, i thought rdr2 had crazy models for animals but h2 is on another fucking level

Just scrolling through, I thought this was a real picture of an owl lol

Seriously. Having just finished Mass Effect Trilogy and, most recently, Halo Infinite, I was blown away with the detail in the NPCs. I get that Mass Effect has been out forever but with Halo Infinite I was super disappointed with the character models. Especially because they only had a handful of humans that they had to create. Sony, once again, hosting a graphics masterclass.

I thought that was a real picture at first glance.

Yeah those pictures are nice to look at, unfortunately during the gameplay it comes at the price of low framerates if you're using resolution mode. Performance mode looks nowhere near as that.
the game is meant to be played in quality mode. its perfectly smooth

I mean RDR 2 looks great but its been lapped twice by Horizon.
TLOU 2 I still think has the best facial animations ever. And unmatched direction/cinematography.

In fidelity sure, thats just more polygons. But with red dead 2, really felt like they were real people and not puppets. Very subtle things Rockstar does in their animations that cant be matched since they have unlimited money . I mean..

Tag, you're it.
While HFW is a big step up and probably a VERY close second place for what I saw (haven't played the game yet), I still think RDR II is the king.
But Guerilla nailed it, there's no doubt about this.

In comparison to HFW, I don't think that RDR2 character models look that great. I feel like the characters coming off as more natural is connected to cinematography and voice acting.

Having played both Horizon 2 is definitely more realistic and superior to RDR2 in that area. RDR2 characters still look "gamey." Horizon 2 they are bordering on passing for "real." Not necessarily in terms of the rendering, even though that's "realistic," but the actual animation and movement of the people. I have never played another game that can even match it, let alone beat it. Frankly I don't know how you "beat" something that looks practically 100% real in terms of the movement. Yeah the rendering can get increasingly realistic but ... Horizon 2 nails character animation in a way no other game in existence has.

You haven't played it and yet you're trying to rank it. I've played both. Horizon is unquestionably better. I can't imagine anyone playing both and disagreeing unless they were a Rockstar fanboy. Not taking a shot at RDR2, it was very well done, but HFW is the next level.

I think that rdr2 is still the king for so many things, but characters details (especially anyone outside of arthur) and facial animations are beated in h2.

Voice acting is still better in rdr2 imo, arthur is way more nuanced than aloy.

They are the only 2 open world games that use mocap for basically any quest or sidequest, and it shows.

Looks great! Just dont like the actual character model for Aloy but eh i'll get over it. As i've said before, once Sony release a PS5 Slim/Pro this will be one of the first games i pick up. By then all the bugs and crap will hopefully be patched out of it too.
