How 2014 Japanese games sold on Steam

It would be better to see good visual novels do well.
That game is absolute trash and the translation is awful.

While i agree the vn itself is trash its a nice indication that there is a market for these kind of experiences within the Steam ecosystem. It kind of reminds me of the path jrpgs are taking on Steam, before your Tales of ends up in the platform you kind of need an Agarest to show there is interest.

Can you hide individual games on Steam on public profile?

I don't imagine it's statistically significant but I have to imagine some of the more racy titles might get hidden more often if that's the case.

According to SteamDB, Tales of Zestiria might be coming though :p

I'm saddened and mildly shocked that Crimzon Clover didn't make the Top 400. It's a truly amazing game.

Best thing that could happen to the STG genre would be Crimzon Clover getting a PS4 port with a free PS+ month. About the only thing close would be a translated PS4+Steam PS+/Sale bundle from Cave, MOSS, or Eighting (in that order).

was metal slug 3 in a humble bundle or something

also where at ffvii and viii
.
It was in humble PC and Android Bundle 10 released back in May 2014. That Humble Bundle had around 158,000 overall sales but Metal Slug 3 was a BTA tier game so not the full picture.

Those two FF games were released before 2014. Yes VIII was December 2013.

It's definitely coming, the number of titles that show up on DB and simultaneously end up not making it onto the platform is extremely rare.

That being said, RIP SteamDB leaks since Valve updated the database to hide all package names.

We're going to need Skies of Arcadia Legends and Valkyria Chronicles 2 & 3 on Steam at some point.

Why yes Nabs I agree

well, someone needs to get the Zero Escape games onto steam already. Hell, i'll take a dangaropapopo too, just stuff that's not so heavy on the fan service and with stories worth reading through.

I'll take the Ace Attorney games, too, but for whatever reason Capcom is really weird about how it handles those games.

At least no one can say that there isn't precedent for those games to not do well on PC. This thread is great for sales figures, finally, we have a true statistic of how these games perform.

Well to be fair, a lot of those numbers come from some pretty high discounts.

Not really. Dark souls 2 only went on sale on steam once for any reasonable amount of time, most notably during the Christmas sale. Other than that, it really hasn't seen too many sales. I think it was also 50% off for a short amount of time once before that. It also was on discount for a few other websites, but those likely didn't account for many sales.

Rising's numbers are kind of astonishing given how this isn't exactly the healthiest genre in the world these days either.

Compare to something like DMC4, which has probably around 500-600k sales on PC in total, and yeah, it's quite an achievement.

The profit margin on digital is also higher. Pubs get $24 from a game that sells for $30 on Steam. That is comparable to their cut of a full price retail title.

Meh. VNs as a genre shine much better on portables. Just work better to be able to carry them around and jump in and out of them as I need to, imo. VNs on PC have never been able to grab me in the same way.

I kind of agree with this after i followed some guides on how to play some vns on my android tablet but considering how varied the pc form factor is now this is perspective thats likely to change. A Windows 8 tablet pc can provide that flexibility without excluding itself from the larger pc ecosystem.

Yeah, VC and most of those games basically old games without any advertising except from Steam pop-up and some articles. VC 2 and 3 really need to happen. To whom should I send my prayer to? Seeeeggaaaaa!!!!

If you want VC3 so bad, look no further than #Operation422 /shamelessplug

Impressed that VC did as well as it did in such short time. I suppose we have aggressive sales to thank for that, but impressed nonetheless. How much of that was frontloaded on preorders and launch week compared to after I'd like to know.

Astonished by these DSII sales numbers.

Do we have the number of Steam copies of Dark Souls 1 ? I didn't find it in Ars' lsat year feature.

Already joined, told my friends to join too.

had Japan access to Steam, those numbers would be thrice as much!

You do know how PC gaming does in Japan, right?

From what I see on Steam forum, there are quite a lot Japanese Steam users, a lot of hardcore user (PalmDessert, highest Steam level), but almost always get the short end when it comes to Japanese PC game. They don't get VC and Neptunia afaik. I doubt they will get ToZ if it really hit Steam.

Whoah, Metal Slug 3 sales are insane.
EDIT: Oh right, maybe there Humble Bundle sales in there

Really happy for Trails, it deserved it

Are those worldwide sales or Japan only? If worldwide they look low to me with the exception of Dark Soul 2 and Metal Slug 3.
Take into account that pc games are cheaper and usually become extremely cheap when in offer...

If you like STGs, buy Crimson Clover.

The Legend of Korra sold more than I thought and that's just one platform.

>Korra
>Western

I mean I guess it is Japanese developed since Platinum made it, but it's still a western property and was published by Activision

I did this by Japanese developer and not Japanese publisher.

The Evil Within is on here for example, but Thief is not.

I don't know, but are those good numbers? I guess DSII, which has almost 1 milion is good, but the others ? Even though many of those games are port of some years old console games, but still - for example, are 210 000 sold copies of Valkyria Chronicles good?

I knew Dark Souls 2 would be big, but MGR netted nearly half a million? That's like... unexpectedly good. If a Japanese dev like Platinum, who is already not too huge on consoles, pulled that off on their first go... then bravo.
