How Americans Order Their Steak (Rare 2.5%, Well Done 11.7%)

Medium, because some parts will be medium rare, and some medium well. I can handle both ends of that spectrum. If I order medium rare, then some parts are rare, and I do not enjoy that whatsoever.

Have your other reasons sure, but anyone who goes higher than medium rare because steak is bloody is a Trump enabler. Ignore all the facts and put faith in your own reality.

I think we need to take into account certain restaurants don't have great cooks. I love medium rare. But if I go to the roadhouse near me, I'll order medium. And they'll bring out something in between the two. If I order medium rare, I'm cutting into artery lol.

My thoughts exactly.

I haven't had a good steak in a while. Thread is making me yearn for Steak!

Guess we gotta ask 11.7 percent of the steak-eating population politely, but firmly, to leave.

If you want a well done steak just eat some microwaved beef jerky with A1 sauce on it.

MR for me

Medium is doable but higher just seems pointless, would rather eat a burger

I only have one friend who orders his steak well done. Same friend tends to eat a lot of chicken nuggets and hot pockets.

Basically where I'm at, too. Gotta give a chef the latitude for a little fuzzy cooking.

I'd be interested to see how this differs between restaurants. Price tier, location(s), selection, etc. People might change their ordering preference depending on how they perceive the quality of the meal they're about to get. Or maybe not.

People don't really put ketchup on steaks do they? I mean, ketchup on hot dogs is bad enough, but at least that is somewhat defensible because kids do it. But ketchup on a STEAK???

Well done eaters are obviously Trump supporters. Kill em off or throw them out of the country, would make America great again.

What is wrong with ketchup on a hotdog? Next you will be telling me ketchup and fries are wrong.

I always order mine rare. Although, I literally say "Bloody as all hell" when I order so they know I'm not kidding. Occasionally, I'll get the cook who will come out and confirm with me that I want a cool bloody center. My dad was always the guy to ask the cook to put the steak on the grill for 20 seconds on each side and then right to the plate. I'm not that bad.

You know that's not blood, right?

If you don't order "medium rare", you're wrong. And you're a bad person, and you should feel bad. And you will never be truly happy. And everyone only pretends to like you.

Medium Rare for me. I want some pink, but not too much pink, and I want it a bit juicy. Medium will do in a pinch.

I always order mine medium, but that's because it almost always means it comes out more medium rare.

That could skew these results.

Those well done numbers, though....yeeesh.

I don't get it either. I thought you ordered a steak because it's a better meat, and thus you want to taste it.

People put ketchup (or mustard, mayonnaise) on things to supplement flavors that are otherwise lacking, like a hamburger.

More than medium equals roughly Trump's approval rating

Perhaps share some of your own steak memories? Comment on whether you like or dislike some of the steaks mentioned?

Sigh

Difference is I didn't ask what I was supposed to say in this thread. I said what I had to say. No need to try and mock me and pretend that this won't be a circle jerk making fun of well-done steak people.

I had a well done steak once, I was young and stupid. Might as well have tried to eat a brick
Medium rare for life now
We were all children once, it's fine.

I'm just glad well done SPECIFICALLY is the exception rather than the norm, most everyone at least wants it a bit juicy rather than overly thick jerky that won't keep.

Ketchup does not belong on a hot dog unless you are less than 12 years old. Develop better taste in foods.

The ketchup on a hot dog argument is the most baffling thing in the world to me. Hot dogs are already trash food, yet you're trying to tell him to develop better taste in food because of an additional condiment on that trash food?

Longhorn is a shitty chain restaurant so I'm not surprised people who go there don't know how to eat steak properly.

Edit: For the record, I agree with HeySeuss's elitist and condescending statement re:ketchup on hot dogs.

I'm convinced that people order their steak this way (and well done) out of ignorance of thinking red meat is inherently bad for you or dangerous an will make you sick. It just has to be.

Medium rare ftw

This is 100% the truth, I know several people who believe any blood will make them immediately sick.

I'm a Well-Doner, throw me in jail for 75 years.

All my meats have to be cooked well done/ little burnt or charred even. My stomach literally gets queasy at the sight of under cooked food and the texture and feeling of a medium to rare steak in my mouth makes me start to vomit. It has more to do with eating flesh of an animal and wanting to disguise that as much as possible. I would be vegan if I could but I just like the taste of meat too much.
