So she leveraged something to her benefit in order to get famous, I assumed this is how most people got famous in the first place. I don't understand what the oh my god I can't believe she did that deal is here.

Plus it seems like a lot of the stuff after the original song in the article is kanye saying stuff that helped swift out without her needing to do anything.

West bigs up about fucking Taylor Swift as a symbol of status, yes you made it player! Fuck those bitches! Now he's hiding behind two women with more influence than his brand of misogynistic hiphop could ever have. The ironing!

The worst part isn't that she's a vile human being. It's that people actually pretend to like her generic ass music.

Shit article with same old same old.

Imagine writing the same about Drake because he constantly writes about his exes.

Fuck me the awful opinion pieces she's had to suffer through through the years simply because she's in control of her own career.

Shock - people aren't actually pretending and many great critics have written about what makes her unique if you want to study for yourself.

I don't have much of an opinion on her as I'm not in her target demo, but I don't personally care if artists are politically active or have anything to say. I like specific artists, actors and authors because I enjoy their work. How they handle themselves publicly or if they get involved in political causes doesn't matter much to me. If they want get involved, cool. If not, it's their life. She's famous because she makes music people enjoy. I'm not sure why people feel it's their right to demand she be involved in political/social and shit on her for not doing it, or not doing it enough.

I always thought what she did was some sort of revenge for what Kanye did to her back then. He was an ass and has always been.

I do think she has become embittered and more calculating as a result. Can't really blame her when everyone seems ready to shit on her even when she just started in the industry.

Her music's really not that bad. She has a penchant for writing really catchy and enjoyable songs--throughout her entire career. I want to hate her, but there are definitely songs of hers that I really like. I can think of a dozen pop acts in the past few years that are at least as good (and some that I think are criminally under-appreciated) but she's not bad at all.

They are also really expertly put together. You can practically hear the money they spend on production and engineering.

Uh... I mean if people were expecting her to somehow be a paragon of her kind, they were obviously taken by her fantastical narrative of frail tall princess. So it's hard to see exactly where the sexism is... In her for using benevolent sexism to become rich or in the people who are upset that she doesn't conform to the sexist perspective they wish she was an icon of. Tbh all this does is humanize her.

Well damn. I thought Armenians were more linked to Persians than Europeans. She certainly looks more Persian.

I guess what I meant is she doesn't look like the modern usage of the word "caucasian", which basically refers to white europeans.

Persians are Caucasian too.

Swift used country music fans to break into the industry. Once she got big in the country music scene, she abandoned it and went pop.

Girl is crazy talented.

Hi, I don't know anything about Taylor Swift or Kanye West, I just came to say that capitalising every letter in a sentence really does my nut in so here's an updated verion for my own benefit.

How Taylor Swift Played the Victim for a Decade and Made her Entire Career

Folks think Kanye is kooky, and maybe he is but he's just hyper aware of all the racists shit that goes on in the music industry and other industries where blacks and minorities may not be welcome.

The fact that he says the shit he says doesn't help him much, but that doesn't mean he is wrong. White folks will never ever understand and that's why they frame Kanye as crazy, but that BuzzFeed article is spot on.
What is this nonsense? Kanye is fucking crazy. He is also right at times, that doesn't change that he's also a maniac. Lets tone down the victim complex.

All I remember out of this in gaf was when the Kardashian pornstar exposed Swift, there was a complete maniac (or two) on the topic defending Swift. Was probably one of the most embarrassing moments I've ever seen out of a gaf member. The Hollywood worship was real.

The piece goes on into more specific analysis of how Taylor has leveraged her failed relationships and subsequent portrayal as a victim into public sympathy (as well as songs) and how she more recently reinvented herself as a feminist icon and the problems therein. Worth reading IMO.

That's the reason I was never a fan of Swift. in my gut I believed she was an opportunist playing the victim all along.
