How would you increase PSVR2 sales?

I think it’d help if they made it officially work with PCs by releasing drivers, I’d love to have one to be able to use on both my PS5 and then also try out some VR stuff on Steam without having to get more than one headset

but I’m not surprised it didn’t push huge numbers when it was never on sale for Black Friday

i was wanting to get vr for christmas but i'm torn between quest 3 and psvr 2 . it would be nice to watch movies on psvr 2 and not need to worry about battery length. i tried quest 2 and i hated the blurriness and being able to see the side of the lenses when it was on and of course the short battery life. We will see what happens in the new year if prices shift any i may commit to one. i would like to play res 4 remake but then i have a few games already on meta including the orginal res 4 which i tried breifly and enjoyed. if the third party batteries get better then i may just go this route as i like my movies as well as gaming which sometimes i don't have a lot of time for or in the mood to play. psvr is abit pricing for one game i iwll play and thats all just now. plys meta alwasy has those discounts so deffo cheaper than ps store.

Include a 6-month subscription to a premium VR Pron site and an interactive/automated flesh-light inside each box. Would sell gangbusters.

I can tell you this as a Quest 3 owner, there is no blurriness at the sides. The pancake lenses are superior to frenal in everyway. Quest is a full range entertainment platform, PSVR2 is a gaming platform. Of course, if you really want to play the Sony exclusives games then your answer is obvious.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
More games, way more.

And at least two major master piece games. Something that they can win GOTY with.

More support and porting VR 1 games….. make it cheaper too, no Black Friday sale was ridiculous tbh

Games you cannot afford to miss that play as well as half life alyx.

Otherwise it’s all just shovelware novelty gaming.

I'm on Amazon this morning looking at the PSVR2 and to my surprise, the headset only moved at most 5k units, and at min 2k units over the past month (on Amazon). Taking into account that we just recently "celebrated" black Friday, what should we take away from this info? Numbers like these cannot instill confidence in PlayStation leadership to continue investment, but the flip side is without the investment, the platform will continue to flounder.

Edit: for comparison, Meta moved 230k+ headsets on Amazon over blackfriday

If given the opportunity, what would you implement to give the PSVR2 the shot in the arm it needs? To keep it interesting, try to stick with plausible scenarios. Of course they could pump up the user base by giving it away for free, but that would never happen for obvious reasons.

1st party Sony games made their actual good teams. Insomniac has a lot of VR experience from their time working with oculus for example.

I would dedicate a well funded team to create a backwards compatibility solution for PSVR1 games, simulating the câmera tracking, implementing custom profiles of moves to sense controllers and Dualsense tracking.

After they finished that, I would transition them into adapting flat screen games to VR. They would take pre-existing Sony titles and port them.

Hate to say this but it feels like Sony is treating the PSVR2 like the Vita. Like they threw out a round or two of good software out there, it didn't take immediately, and they're like "fuck it." Obviously you need good software and you can't rely on Quest ports exclusively. The fact that RE7, WipeOut Omega, and Astro Bot are not playable is a problem because those are three of the best VR games on any platform. They need to invest in quality games, they don't need to be nine-figure AAA games, but they need to exist. Or maybe they can be, look at Asgard's Wrath 2, you're telling me Sony can't do a God of War like that?

Make a multiplayer game where class is tied to input method.

KBM vs Controller vs Touch Screen vs VR.

Asymmetric warfare that takes advantage of each platforms unique features, but also makes them balanced.

Would be uuuuuge.

Sony should’ve made a real handheld. PSVR2 already feels dead. Handhelds are huge right now too.

“But but but they would have to support it with software!”

Not really. Tons of games are already designed to run on Switch and low spec PCs. And they are also failing to support PSVR2 with software.

I can only speak for myself......There is NO FUCKING WAY I will spend close to $800 CAD on this thing which barely has any games I would enjoy, I rather save my money to spend on next Nintendo system which most likely have the game I would enjoy.

1) Run a dumptruck of money up to Valve and for Half Life: Alyx to come on to the platform along with a PSVR2 hardware bundle option.

2) Run another dumptruck over to R* to get VR mode for GTAVI and possibly even RDR2. (Or just buy TakeTwo and mandate they do it).

3) $100/£80 price drop as soon as it's viable, paired with a couple major titles and a major mainstream marketing push.

4) Make Astrobot VR 2 and bundle it with every unit.

5) Make a Wireless Edition as soon as it's viable (with other refinements too including basic quest-style built in speakers [which are greater for quick pickup and play sessions when you don't wanna faff] and superior lenses, sell this for a premium to subsidise a cheaper wired unit).

6) Patch PSVR1 titles wherever possible and create an emulation/abstraction layer for titles that aren't. Far too many great titles are stuck on PSVR1 where the quality sucks and having to have that hardware setup kinda sucks when you have a far superior PSVR2 headset sat right next to it. Wipeout being PSVR1-only is criminal. Also add better video support: porn sells.. Lol

7) Just better software support in general, more attention in general, stronger marketing etc.

8) Build and expand into small, interconnected add-on studios dedicated to VR within many of the Sony 1P studios.

9) Official PC support for the headset and bring any 1P VR software to PC within a year too.

10) Rebrand to "PlayStation Vision" or "PlayStation Reality"; add "Edge" for a premium model. Subtitle with "Virtual Reality System for PS5". PlayStationVR2 with the old font looks wonky and sounds uninspiring. Not to mention having a "2" peripheral for a "5" console. If they did a rebrand, refer back to higher points about a coinciding marketing/software push/price adjustments.

11) Full cinema app with support for ultra high quality encodes played locally, plus streaming app support, DVD/Blu-ray/Blu-ray 3D/4K UHD Blu-ray support + a dedicated store/library with streaming and preloading; featuring most 3D movies from Sony and licensed from other studios too..

There's even an avenue here for watching a movie like Avatar: TWOW in 4K HDR 3D 10-Bit 422 BT.2020 @ 24-48fps VFR; they could get Disney to license and repackage one of their high end DCPs for it to be enjoyed in a VR cinema screen on PSVR2.

I'm not sure why there is concern with current software to be honest.

They have had the best (or close to) exclusives overall this year. GT7, RE8VR, Synapse and RE4VR are a pretty solid lineup for the 1st year and are all only available on PSVR2.

It was better than most console launch lineups. Following BG3 my favorite games this year were PSVR2 games.

It's also had the best versions of other amazing VR games, namely Red Matter 1/2, Walking Dead 1/2, No Mans Sky and Pavlov.

I would actually say it has had best launch window (6 months) of anything in recent memory.

The most disappointing thing on the software side is what is coming in the future, that's a real concern, but the current software isn't.

Just my opinion.

People say it'd never happen, but I don't think it'd be that hard, just cost a lot of money.

If they released exclusive versions of their mainline first / third party games, that their mainstream console audience would legitimately want to play and that game sites would review with a 90 rating or so, you know real AAA games.

Just release 1 every month or two, so ~8 year. Do this for 3 years and you'll have tons of sales, I guarantee you.

A library of ~20 AAA exclusive games like Spider-Man, TLOU, Dark Souls, Cyberpunk, GTA, Harry Potter, and so forth, but actual exclusives. It'd never happen, but if it did, it would simply be too many and too big to ignore the way VR is ignored today.

Good software, and a price drop. And some PSVR1 support would be good. I think many PSVR owners liked Astrobot and Wipeout for example.

PSVR1 and 2 now were ultimately relegated to B-tier games, or some watered down experiences like Arkham and Horizon. For me the meat of PSVR1 were games like Astrobot and RE VII. Sure RE4 and Village are VR now, but long after they were out. Many people already played those games. To be succesful, and to sell a device that cost more than the PS5 itself you really do need something like a full budget Uncharted and Spider Man VR day one.

PSVR2 right now seems to go the way of the Vita. Released with a good launch lineup, and after that the device is just there.

As others have said, the need for a wire is a real bummer. My Quest 2 is terrific because I can connect over my wifi network and even control its data usage throughput. Just thinking about trying to play around in VR with some thick cable anchoring me to a console or any device instantly makes me not want to bother.

I was honestly shocked when I learned Sony was going to once again require cabling with their new VR headset. Dumb. Just invest in a good wifi chipset in your console. It's not pricey.

It needs more first party games, Spider-man 2 VR DLC, God of War swinging that axe in VR would be epic etc, what about Astrobot VR2 game as well?

They already have wifi 6 in the PS5. Even with the limitied range, a direct wifi connection would have been sufficient, it couldn't be worse than being physically tethered.

I dunno about anybody else, but the thought of getting physically sick from playing in VR has been a major deterrent for me. Maybe boast the higher quality visuals and frame rate to prevent motion sickness would work for me.

I also think that VR's fun is hard to show off to someone who isn't already into it. The games don't look particularly well made. Half Life Alyx and maybe the Horizon game are the best I've seen recently.

I did some research on the Quest 3 and some alternative headsets like the Beyond. One thing that I'd really be interested in but seems to be a costly feature is full body tracking. You gotta get so many accessories to make it work well and the cost when it all boils down would be around $1500 unless you go for some software solution....which isn't as good.

PSVR2 just needs to improve quality beyond what the average of what other studios are putting out and make those games exclusive. I don't think Horizon is enough.

I consider myself blessed that it takes something special to make me motion sick. And speaking of body tracking, have you seen the upper body tracking that the Quest 3 will soon receive with an update? Exciting stuff, I hope it works well.

No haven't seen anything about that. Do you have to get those stations, how is it gonna pull it off?

If Sony would believe in their product it would be a good start. Then I would think about creating its own social metaverse.

Right now, browsing the same old boring PS5 menu in VR is not enough. The competition offer a full blown 3D metaverse with fun customizable avatar. Activities and an ever growing world.

So bring back Playstation Home but now Playstation Home VR. Customizable personal room that would includes players trophies .

Then bring back Killzone but now VR exclusive and a new Littlebigplanet . Do something Sony.... god damn they suck, just thinking about how they handle anything that is not a home console. They can't keep anything alive.

No external sensors, just headset tracking. That's why they have the two bottom tracking cameras facing down. edit: this isn't a pipe dream either, it should be released within the next couple of months.

There is always the possibility that Jim's replacement will be a little more forward thinking when it comes to their VR experiences.

Triple A Dungeons and Dragons co-op.

Greyhawk so it isn't already too familiar.

DLC can be all the other campaigns.

Don't make it cartoony.

Battery straps have been the one product I have been holding out on. There is not a concensus as of yet, and the Bobo seems half baked. As more Quest 3 units get sold, I'm sure we will have a manufacturer step up to the plate. This is what I have been using in the meantime UPOK Hanging Neck 8000mAh Battery... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0C19ZH4RX?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
It supplies necessary wattage and adds a good 2 1/2 hours of play.

As for movies, I have experience with "skybox" which has never let me down.

Forgot to mention, you can get a perfectly adequate elite strap clone for around the $30 mark to get you by until a great battery strap comes out.
im in the uk so i was thnking of getting either the abukia or a kiwi one if that turns up on amazon , beats waiting weeks for delivery buying direct. i will try it out with the basic strap first bdays on saturday so still time to hopefully get one or i just see if i can hold out till the new year its cutting to fine for delivery now and this time if the year no telling if it will turn up.

I'll mirror what everyone else is saying and say more games, but not "just" more games, ACTUAL games. not experiences and shitty mobile ports. I've abandoned VR entirely for the time being because there's nothing really worth playing aside from Alyx and the RE vr modes. I hope things will change in the near future, but its as if Sony doesn't care about it, so why should we?

Go back in time and don't release it. VR won't take off unless they can get a headset no bulkier than ski goggles. With no wires or room sensors
VR will always be a novelty until this happens. I actually LOVE my PSVR1, but it's a pain in the ass to use because of the bulk.

When the tech arrives to make it ski-goggle sized, and wireless, is when AR and VR will start to take off with the general public.
