Humble Nintendo Indie Bundle for the Americas

Humble has been region-locking stuff for ages now, some bundles aren't even accessible in some countries.

Also, half of those games aren't even out in Japan, so a global bundle is out of the question anyway.

I think the poster was saying that is wasn't Humble Bundle setting the region-locking stipulation - as in don't place blame on HB for this offer being region-locked.

And Humble could very easily adopt an ideological stance of refusing to sell region locked games. Much like they did in the past. Back before they were pushing Origin and uPlay.

I'd also say that Nintendo weren't "Unable" to make it work, they chose not to.

It would be relatively trivial to let people pick which region they need codes for during checkout.

Sadly, no. I just tested with another WiiU codes, This can't be redeemable without link with WiiU console on your NNID.

Thank you for the fast response. This is a perfect example of why being an 'early' adopter has its benefits. Miss a couple sales like this and you can easily come out behind financially. Or a game like Pikmin 3 goes OOP and goes up in price.

It is a humble bundle. That's exactly what it is.

Humble Bundle is not in charge of getting each division of Nintendo to agree to hand out codes. NOA put this on and could not get others to follow suit. HB has no responsibility to get all regions on board. Blaming them is pointless.

Hmmm, considering Nintendo of Europe and Nintendo of America are separate entities, the consoles are region-locked and the eShop is different from country to country, it's not "trivial".

I agree that region-locking is bullshit and it would have been better if they managed to include more regions in this bundle, but there's a lot of nonsense in this thread. And saying that you prefer no bundle at all instead of a regional bundle is pretty egoistic.

I have a 3DS but no Wii U yet, can I activate these games later? I'm buying a U after E3, regardless of if there's a price drop.

Sorry if this has already been asked, I didn't see it.

This ^ actually isn't an answer to the question.

I don't believe eShop codes ever expire once generated. So as long as you jump in on the bundle you should be able to redeem them, but only once you link your NNID to a Wii U. Unless someone can confirm to the contrary?

Incorrect. Humble are completely in charge of securing codes for their customers.

PAL/EU eShop codes are compatible with any country within the region. There are three different regions of eShop with regards to registering codes.

It's disingenuous to say I am saying that I'd prefer no bundle. Humble evaluate potential bundles on a regular basis, and plenty of bundles that they considered won't go ahead. This is not called "egoism", this is called quality control. I am simply saying that I wish they thought offering region free games was as important as I do (and indeed as import as they seemingly used to).

I can't at the stupid debate in this thread. If it's not available in your region, oh well, move along. These are video games people, it's not the end of the world.

Oops. Thanks for notify my mistake. I misread his question. I'll re-answer for his question.

As there is no specific notice on expire date for this bundle, I'm sure that there will be no expire dates for Download codes for Nintendo console, especially for PURCHASED DOWNLOAD CODE FROM AUTHORIZED STORE LIKE HUMBLE BUNDLE OR NINTENDO.COM.

In Club nintendo's reward redeem page, there is a specific notice on expire date for download code from Club nintendo.(7/31/15) But in humble bundle or Nintendo.com's DL shop that need to pay for Download code, No specific notice for expire date.

I just tested my Metroid prime trilogy download code that I paid this on january, still It's legit code on Nintendo Network's Code redeem page.

But remember, Unlike Playstation or Xbox, You have to buy WiiU console and link your account to redeem download codes. Without link with WiiU on NNID, You can't be redeemable.

Well, I already own 80% of those games, but... NEW GAMES COME SOON.

...

I'm now $10 poorer, but with download codes to all sorts of things I already downloaded. I did get Ollie, Moon Chronicles, and the Wii U version of SteamWorld though -- everything else I already own.

I'm a little surprised they didn't do a Humble Indie Bundle THEME for the 3DS. If anyone has the ear of the HB folks, suggest it.

HB is not in charge of Nintendo's region locking. Nintendo is. HB could have refused this based on the region locking, yes, but then they would be doing what you say you are not asking for: offering no bundle.

No. They would be offering a different bundle. One that would be available to all customers, instead of punishing people for being too foreign.

They would be offering no THIS bundle, not necessarily no bundle at all.

Ah, okay. The price is so dirt cheap anyway, I'm going to buy now.

Thanks everyone

They wouldn't be offering anything because they are not in charge of Nintendo's region locking.

I imagine this would be easier for Nintendo to orchestrate than HB. Blaming HB for this seems misguided to me.

I'm glad this thread is still about region locking instead of how big of a deal it is that this is the first console humble bundle

Hopefully this goes on long enough for my Amazon payments to come through. Whenever that may be.

Not even a real console, Wii U isn't next gen, most of these games aren't on PS4 so they can hardly even be considered real games, everyone on GAF is European so who can even buy this bundle, anything involving Nintendo is selling out, etc. etc. If you consider all these facts all you can do is wonder how anyone is doing anything but complaining.

LMAO

Hmm, guess I overspent by paying $15. LoL. Oh well, I don't have any of the games and a little bit more goes for charity I suppose.

Looks like 26,000 have purchased this today so far.

Nintendo of America does cool thing, Nintendo of Europe elects not to do cool thing, world outraged at Nintendo of America.

heh

Whatever. It's a minor frustration not having this available in Europe. But hey, we have the regular size New Nintendo 3DS.

I get the outrage, I do, but people should be directing their ire on NoE for not bothering to get the licensing or whatever worked out. NoA did something really neat and unprecedented in the console space today and hopefully it encourages more divisions and the other big 2 to follow suit.

I own none of the games and don't have a 3DS but I bought it all for $10. Excited to try some of these out. At <$2/game if even one or two of these turns out good I'll be satisfied.

Cool cool im going to download the Wii U version

I think you might get the 3DS version anyway. Check to see after the Wii U version is downloaded. When the game came to the eshop it offered cross copies , so if you bought one the other would appear as $0.00 in the eshop. I'm pretty sure you can get both if you redeem one of the codes, since I don't think the promotion has changed.

How many bundles do we expect to sell? Whats normal for tge Humble Bundles? I own a few but never paid much attention to the sell numbers but being the first console I'm kinda interested.

I agree that region locking is bad. I think the hate is misplaced at Humble Bundle as a company and NOA. The disappointment should be directed toward the policy of region locking.

When people wanted Sony to not have DRM, they didn't complain about Best Buy selling games that can't be resold.
