I found a vagina in Watch Dogs 2 and Sony suspended me (Update: Ban lifted)

This doesn't seem that weird to me. If a little kid is playing WD2 and sees nudity, that's on his parents. But someone who has the game take a pic of the nudity and then shares it outside the game where anyone can see it, yeah sorry but I can understand why that would be an issue.
I don't.

Explain it to me. Why is it an issue to take a picture of something that can be found in the game?

Well I won't be putting in my new CC numbers when my PSN comes up for renewal if I can get banned from their service for criticizing them on neogaf. Fuck closed paywall platforms.

What happens to Plus accounts during a ban?
You can't get the benefits of the account while banned, so does the banned time not count or does Sony just screw the banned account out of a month of service after having already taken the money?

If it's the latter then a charge back would be a good option, although of course Sony would then ban for that.

They have too, right?

Yeah we approved this game and ESRB approved the game then you posted an inappropriate screenshot FROM the game.

So we banned you.

To be fair just because they passed certification doesn't mean that Sony should necessarily think everything in it is suitable for streaming. But it is weird that they would even allow kids to see content shared from an adult game. Basically they all tacitly allow children to play violent games and violence isn't considered bad and nobody normally puts textures of vaginas on the characters so it's never been an issue before.

Update:

I got an email 30 minutes ago telling me that my ban is now 1 month because of a violation today. Bare in mind that I was banned yesterday and have not been able to make any new uploads since the ban and the only thing I'd uploaded in months was the single image this thread is about.

I'm really disappointed right now.

what the fuck?? the ban is extended???

Why? cos the media picked it up?

FFS Sony.

If it is an issue then that's on Sony, not the user or the developer.

did you share it through the PS share button? When you do that it posts in into the what's new section. Maybe people saw it there and reported it or something.

So fuck if someone reported it. It's content in a game certified by Sony to be released on it's console. This isn't some elaborate act to get porn onto the what's new section by circumnavigating the game (like happened with Halo 3 file share for example) this is him taking a picture of a frankly ridiculous element of game.

Sony will allow excessive violence to be put on the what's new section, You could have a head shot montage or a GTA running people over spree and not get banned but because it's Virtual nudity then it's some how ban worthy?

Don't want people sharing it then disable sharing in that game or better yet tell Ubisoft they can't put that on your console if you're going to act like prudes about it but don't ban a user and then lengthen that ban when the user publicly calls out your hypocrisy.

It would be no different from going to an "18+ ONLY" porn website, taking jpegs from their vids, and posting them on twitter. It's taking mature content out of the M rated source and putting it somewhere with no age restrictions or guidelines. Can't believe this needs to be explained.

If Sony banned me for a month for something like this whilst paying for PS Plus I'd sell the console so fast and never look at a Sony console again.

It got extended? No thats not okay. I can understand the first ban but another for doing nothing? Hope this blows up in their face. Thats bullshit of the highest order.

Not even close to the same thing.

On one hand, it shows how fucked up America's priorities are when people don't bat an eye to gratuitous violence, but flip their shit over video game pussy.

On the other hand, this situation is hilarious. (Not the whole ban thing, that's definitely bullshit OP.)

Yep. Seriously, this is both stupid and hilarious.

Maybe nobody reported the excessive violence. That's why we see some people sent a vulgar message and get banned while some people don't. But any reasonable person would say, "can I get banned for this? yes It's a possibility" ..Then they go on to share it, well they got banned. I get in today's day and age you can just fuss about it online and it blows up. which it did, but sometimes you have to exercise a little personal responsibility.

Ban was overzealous in the first place. Extending it, seemingly because the OP brought attention to it, is petty as fuck. Grow the fuck up, Sony.

This.

While Sony's approach (ban + extension) seems harsh (there's probably a much better way to handle this type of situation), I can understand why they view an M-rated game differently from an E-rated (essentially) service like Live from Playstation.

Edit: what I do disagree with, is that there is seemingly no system or warning in place that sharing content of any kind from an M-rated game could lead to any sort of negative consequence (even if the consequence is so simple as the post getting deleted)

Sony is disgusting for doing this!

The initial ban is disputable, but the extension is just a steaming pile of pure bullshit.
If it's a ban from Sony (instead of enacted by Ubisoft), shouldn't the thread title reflect that?
Yes? And that is why it clearly says Sony is the one doing the suspension/banning. What is the problem?

Listen, if they cannot overturn a moderators decision then why was the week ban turned into a month? This does not make any sense, fight this and find someone who knows about the tos and see if there is any violation in there part as well as the moderators part.

Go ahead Sony, burn to ashes any good will you have left from the start of the generation!! What a ridiculous way to behave towards a consumer, not to mention the totally hypocritical and contradictory policy positions this entire episode represents.

If they're serious about this then they should actually DISABLE sharing of screenshots or video (or live broadcast) of any game rated M.

Shit move by Sony extending the ban. Hell, the original ban was ridiculous as well. A warning would have been appropriate unless you've been warned about it before.

I'd call Sony and ask for an explanation.

Use the share button to share your favorite game moments!*

*except when a game on our platform contains nudity

How does this work with PS+? If OP has it, does he get the month refunded, when he's not able to use it?

That extension is absolutely unacceptable. This is going to blow up so hard in Sony's face.

Hope they backtrack for you OP because that's ridiculous.

You know what, You're absolutely right, no one likely reported those videos and if they did I can say with certainty that Sony would have done NOTHING, NOTHING at all. The issue here is that he was banned for posting content that was readily available in game if Sony have an issue then they should take it up with Ubisoft.

It's safe to assume you won't get banned for posting content of a game Sony allowed on their console. In fact it's ridiculous to get banned for it. If it's bannable to share why can Sony promote and profit from the game containing it?

Lmao Sony mods taking notes from the NFL, Jesus Christ. Hope the gaming outlets catch wind of this (and that you aren't hiding an important detail from us).

Yep. This is some cunt over in the moderation team who lurks on gaf.... probably upset that he never got his account approved or got banned for being a trump supporter.

Here is my reply. My PSN ID is TheNegativeDude. Go fuck yourself Sony. Ban me! I dare you.

Abhorrent behavior from Sony. Instead of using this as an opportunity to improve their own service they decide that attempting to silence a paying customer is the better path forward.
