I found a vagina in Watch Dogs 2 and Sony suspended me (Update: Ban lifted)

Wow. The first ban i could *possibly* understand. The extension is a next level chicken shit move though. Makes my blood boil that there's not much anyone can really do about this

Update:

I got an email 30 minutes ago telling me that my ban is now 1 month because of a violation today. Bare in mind that I was banned yesterday and have not been able to make any new uploads since the ban and the only thing I'd uploaded in months was the single image this thread is about.

I'm really disappointed right now.

What in the hell... this has gotta be retaliation for complaining about Sony's ridiculous ban.

Sony absolutely shouldn't ban you for uploading content that's in a game that they approved for their console. If they have a problem with potentially adult content being shared, then the game should have an M rating, and there should be a filter preventing people under 17 or whatever age from seeing content from that game.

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, but you shared the content that Sony approved on your own personal twitter account...? And they banned you from PSN for that...? Ridiculous.

That there's no recourse for you to at least get your money back for a month is beyond ridiculous. "Sorry bruv, we take this so seriously that we don't have any recourse for someone to get their money back or object to the ban."

ALso, OP, add the update to your OP with a link to that post. Takes too long to find it.

Well congratulations! You got yourself caught!
Just saw this thread and yikes. The OP really did nothing wrong and the fault entirely lies at the feet of Sony on this one.

Gaming media outlets: There is a story here delivered on a platter. Get the fuck on it.

Straight up embarrassing, Sony. I can't believe they doubled down on the ban when it got attention. If you object to it, turn attention to the developers, not people using your system as designed, FFS. Bummer.

Lol at Sony's reaction. It also blows me away that you can get banned for sharing actual (not user created) content of an M-rated game. Ubisoft should be the one to get all the blame for adding models with realistic anatomy to the game (assuming someone will be offended by it in an adult game ;p).

You know what, You're absolutely right, no one likely reported those videos and if they did I can say with certainty that Sony would have done NOTHING, NOTHING at all. The issue here is that he was banned for posting content that was readily available in game if Sony have an issue then they should take it up with Ubisoft.

It's safe to assume you won't get banned for posting content of a game Sony allowed on their console. In fact it's ridiculous to get banned for it. If it's bannable to share why can Sony promote and profit from the game containing it?

It's a definitely a touch and go subject from both sides. Hopefully something good comes out of it like an 18+ filter and OP get's everything resolved.

It would be no different from going to an "18+ ONLY" porn website, taking jpegs from their vids, and posting them on twitter. It's taking mature content out of the M rated source and putting it somewhere with no age restrictions or guidelines. Can't believe this needs to be explained.
This isn't even close to the same thing. Twitter has no ties to a porn website, that would be taking completely outside content and sharing it on their platform. This is sharing content from a game that Sony approved on their platform.

To boot, you can share explicit material on Twitter, and there are age markers on Twitter, so this is a bunk and idiotic comparison anyways.

The issue here is that if you link Twitter or Twitch or Facebook to your PSN account then when you share to those platforms (Pics, Videos, Streams) then the shared content ALSO gets shared to the PSN feed (What's New, Game Hub).

What is also an issue is that Sony has no programming in place to prevent Mature content being shared from Mature games to their feeds (What's New, Game Hub), or to prevent underage users from accessing that content (What's New, Game Hub).

This is 100% on Sony. Anyone saying differently is wrong. Anyone saying they can agree with the initial ban is wrong. This is a regressive policy, it shows a lack of foresight, it's blatantly disgusting, and most of all, it'd childish.

Also quite fitting that this is Playstation's Twitter page right now:

Like... they're heavily promoting this game on twitter, a player uploads content from the game to twitter, and they ban him for it.

At least you did not do something really crazy like have a username of ButtSmasher...that sort of shit gets you in trouble.

QFT. Twitter has mechanisms for consenting adults to see adult content, and to hide it by default from minors or adults who just don't want to see it.

Where is the mature content filter on PSN's What's New feed or Game Hubs?

Not only that, it's mental because nudity and sexuality is natural, whilst obscure violence is just inhuman.

Inhumane you mean? Violence is very human, our evolution as a species is intertwined with violence to a disturbing extent. In a way, its exclusive to humans.

This is fucked, sorry OP. I completely agree with you. If this is something they have decided is permitted to be on their platform I cannot comprehend how you could get banned (twice now apparently) for sharing content they have permitted to be on their platform ON THEIR PLATFORM.

To be fair just because they passed certification doesn't mean that Sony should necessarily think everything in it is suitable for streaming. But it is weird that they would even allow kids to see content shared from an adult game. Basically they all tacitly allow children to play violent games and violence isn't considered bad and nobody normally puts textures of vaginas on the characters so it's never been an issue before.

I mean, I can see reason for Sony to take action on PSN accounts, even if they did do all due diligence to filter content.

Yes, the content is in the game, but if you subvert the content or use the content for TOS-violating purposes, then action is perfectly fair. If you are intentionally snapping confederate flags in a civil war / Dukes of Hazard game, or intentionally collecting a gallery of snaps of say just dead black-skinned NPCs, and then sharing that filtered stream of content to your racist friends, Sony would likely step in. Or if you had a collection of fail videos and of you team-killing or hassling somebody you know, and you posted it to your school chums who all harrass that person and know his PSN ID, that's Sony's business to shut down. Even super-violent or explicitly sexual content, according to the TOS, is potentially a strike, so although we are seeing a case of nudity banned while multitudes of cases of violence are flying through the filter, it is in Sony's right to crack down should they choose to do so if complaints hit a threshold.

(Where I'm still stuck is the question of whether Sony did its due diligence. They have the metadata of title and rating for the game as it was snapped, and Live From PlayStation is limited to friends and followers. So unless the OP had bad settings or unless Live From PlayStation allows broader and unfiltered exposure points beyond Friend List that ALSO foolishly don't use content filters to keep M-rated games off age-gated accounts, both the user and Sony should have been in the clear of this being a widespread problem extending beyond Goron2000's approved circle of friends.)

lol. the first ban was dumb, but now it's just petty. if sony doesn't want vaginas on their network they should have made ubisoft block the share button features.

Not sure if this has been mentioned yet but does anyone else remember when Fox News accused Mass Effect of having fully rendered frontal nudity?

I haven't heard of Fox or any other news source criticizing video games in a long time. Either the medium has gained far more acceptance or I'm just not looking enough.

Anyway, terrible of Sony to not only uphold the ban but to lengthen it as well. Makes you wonder what you can get away with sharing from games that isn't sexual in nature.

Again, this isn't because of the post on Twitter, but presumably because he posted it to Twitter through the share functionality of the PS4, which also makes a post on the What's New section of the PS4, and that post is what would have been determined to break the TOS for PSN. This is still problematic (especially with the lengthening of the ban), but I think it's important to know what exactly happened here.

+1

If they might ban you for posting stuff from M rated games they should automatically hold it back from being shown on your feed, or at least present a clear warning as to what's acceptable/not acceptable.

Just a mess all around.

I dont think Twitter has much affect in this case. Seems like when you use the built-in share stuff on PS4, it also gets posted on PSN in your live feed (or something like that). I asked the same question yesterday since i couldnt understand how a ban on PSN could be related to posting something on Twitter.

I'd be absolutely fuming if I was you. I have to think that that'll be one of the most shared moments in the game if it's a common enough occurrence? As such, I have to think that at some point this will pick up steam and the decision will be reversed to at least a warning?

Use the share button to share your favorite game moments!*

*except when a game on our platform contains nudity

How does this work with PS+? If OP has it, does he get the month refunded, when he's not able to use it?

That's what I want to know as well, as I suspect that Sony won't refund that month or extend it.

So if OP paid annually he's getting short changed.

Someone would report it.

You'd get banned.

If posting on Miiverse yeah, but not posting it onto Twitter via Nintendo services.

lol Sony, what a terrible year for them, everything they have done this year pissed me of or disappointed the hell out of me, it's incredible how disrespectful they can be with their fan base too, I'm not saying arrogant Sony is back but it's far for the greatness they were around PS4 launch, it's probably time for this company to get their shit together.

I don't know what the saddest part of all of this is, people defending Sony's petty actions or the fact that they are more worried about kids seeing virtual vaginas (and trust me, they've seen plenty of them! real vaginas too!) than these same kids playing videogames where violence is glorified and rewarded.

Oh well. Sorry you're having to deal with this bullshit, OP. Good luck.
