External cable routing needs some work but apart from that I'm pretty pleased with how it turned out. I also have some Antec Prizm fans that I'll replace my bottom intake fans with at some point but they arrived much later than my other parts so I'll probably get round to that when I swap out the GPU for a Nvidia 3000 series card later this year.

I am the christmas tree :)

But yeh, fully glass cases require a lot of fans to keep the airflow and temps in check. All these RGB fans were cheaper than normal fans, I swear...

I feel like your water cooler isn't quite big enough...

I'm not a big fan of RGB, but sweet build! Enjoy it!

I like that fancy CPU cooling solution. I only find out about it today. It seems like your'e rocking a similar thing. What are the pros / cons? Other than the ability to display custom GIFs on the small LCD that is? :messenger_grinning_sweat:

(I know I just bought new CPU cooler, but screw it, I like this gimmick a lot!)

I really should stop following/reading this thread.

I don't need a new computer right now. Mine is 6 years old, and wasn't even great back then, but there's nothing that was released since I built it that warranted an upgrade, and nothing releasing "soon" that would, either.
Still, it's getting old, and reading all you guys' posts makes me want something new. Something powerful. Although, again - I have absolutely no need for it right now. I have a lot of money saved up thanks to the lockdown cutting down on my living expenses considerably, so "budget" doesn't even matter, just... I don't really need anything... *sobs*

Oh well, I'll just look forward to the "I need a new PC, 2021 edition" thread when I actually do need an upgrade for something I really have to play!

I understand that "I have absolutely no need for this..." thing.

I barely play any games on PC - I've beat maybe 20 games in the past 7 years - but I still want to build a new PC. Current PC has a GTX 980 Ti, I7-8700, and I also have a couple NVME drives sitting in my drawer.

Not sure if the comment on the watercooler is serious or not but it's keeping this 3900x below 65 °C under load. I had my doubts whether 240mm was going to be enough and was ready to exchange it for the 360mm version but it's more than done the job.

Yeh I was previously only air cooling before but really like the look of these. This is a Deepcool Castle so no fancy OLED screen but the new NZXT Kraken AIO's are really cool. I think Asus also have a new AIO that has a customisable OLED screen that you can even put animated GIF's on lol.

Very very happy with it and thoroughly impressed with it's cooling abilities. I've only had only ever had air cooling before and this has been quieter and more elegant than the huge alpenfohn cooler I had on my old build.

I'm serious. I'll get that fancy Kraken with LCD screen just so I can display stupid GIFs on it. It's ridiculous and I love it.

Very nice. I cannot bring myself to make everything look so nice. Everything is a mess in my computer room lol. I barely bother with cable management in my PC as well. As long as it doesn't mess up the air flow too much, I'm good. I can admire a good looking build and office, but I guess I'm more of a function over looks kind of guy.

Yields & demand. I wouldn't normally say yields but I believe the 10850 SKU is specifically being introduced to alleviate that somewhat.
Do you need the cores or do you need the frequency?
Need neither, want both. Heard it’s the best for gaming, unless you think another is better? I’m open to suggestions (don’t mean that snidely, I’m genuinely curious).

I'm pretty sure that's a TV. :messenger_hushed:

GaviotaGrande GaviotaGrande is correct.

I struggle to go back to smaller screen sizes now when working. Having as much shit as I need open at once is liberating.

I just have two profiles for brightness, one for work (which is much lower of course) and one for gaming.

The back lighting is Phillips hue sync which responds to whatever is on the screen which also saves my eyes when working for long periods of time.

My Specs currently:
R7 3700x
32 Gb DDR4 Ram 3200mhz
GTX 1080

if the RTX 3070 is at the same level as the 2080 ti, i will buy the 3070. Otherwise I'll save money 1 month longer and buy the RTX 3080 :)

It's me again...

Is this NVME drive any good? Any recommendations? Thanks as always :*

Im a fan of WD, though it's just 1TB.
I've heard the Samsung overheating on heavy loads 🤷‍♀️

1GB should be enough for a system drive, right?

Can you please recommend good brands for modular power supply (80 Plus Platinum is a must)...? From what I understand I need around 750W. As always, thank you!!

Just running some benchmarks with my newish(been a few weeks but have been busy) build. It's performing decently and the cooling is handling the OCs and doing the job well. I couldn't be happier, its been such a long time since I have been back into PC gaming again.
Orginally because well, life, consoles was a good fit, current gen has mostly been console gaming - now I am thinking the PCGamepass/PS5 route is the best option for next gen. It's good to be back.

UserBenchmarks: Game 157%, Desk 106%, Work 153%
CPU: Intel Core i7-9700KF - 106.5%
GPU: Nvidia RTX 2080S (Super) - 147.5%
SSD: Gigabyte GP-GSM2NE3100TNTD 1TB - 216.9%
RAM: G.SKILL F4 DDR4 3600 C18 2x8GB - 113.1%
MBD: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-F GAMING

I've also opted for a 27" 144Hz monitor because I don't need 4K that close and I prefer higher fps(holy shit I have been missing out for so long), but I do have a spare Sony 4k TV lying around if I need that fix, or use my main Samsung in the lounge.

Thanks!

I think I will pick one of these two. What do you think.

Got Prime Gold myself but I would get Focus in this case, imo the quality difference is almost 0 so no reason to overpay. Hell it's probably overkill anyway Seasonic Focus GX-750 PSU would be good too for much less unless you really need that extra 100w.

Gold should be sufficient.

Paying for platinum over gold isn't worth it unless you run multiple systems 24/7 or run a business with multiple desktops or something.

Technically it is better, but marginally and not realistic at an inflated price point!

10600K with an OC, or just cache ratio gets pretty close, if not perhaps grab a 10700K.

If you plan on playing flight sim or do any work that requires it on your computer then yes.

As for the question, on mixing brands... can you share what the exact models are (both what you have and what you intend to buy).

Under all the external branding there are only really 3 different manufacturers of ram - hynix, samsung and micron. That is what you want to match (along with the speed of course). Also check your motherboards QVL list.
Missed the reply, sorry. I decided to stick with 16gb. None of the games I play nor windows uses much of what I already have.

Now I have a hitch to upgrade my rx470 but I don't know to what. I don't want to spend a fortune and wondering if a 1660 super is worth it with new cards being released soon

GHG, I listened to your advice (again) and ordered Gold.

Like Rikkori Rikkori recommend I went for Seasonic. Will arrive tomorrow... together with new motherboard thrown in for a good measure. So tomorrow there will be a new transplantation process.

I must say I enjoy this parts swapping. It's like grown man LEGO. 😅

Yeh you'll be best off waiting a couple of weeks to see how the new Nvidia cards affect the landscape and pricing of older cards. If they announce a new card in your price range then you can just grab that of course.

Just a warning for those with Ryzen cpu, remember to heat up the cpu before swapping out your heat sink, there are many cases of the cpu sticking to the heat sink, the owner unknowingly yank both out and destroying the cpu pins :lollipop_anxious_sweat:

My new PSU and motherboard are installed. Last time I had to do something in BIOS was probably in 2001, the interface got a lot more user friendly since.

Are there any good tutorial videos on how to overclock i7 / 2080Ti?

As tempting as it is to have a rig ready for MSFS 2020, after some thought I think at this point I’m going to hold off until Rocketlake arrives. PCI-E 4 and M.2 improvements sound worth it, and as I’m not going to be rebuilding for another five years (at the very minimum), it’s foolish to build with all of this right around the corner. From what I’m reading Rocketlake is being touted as a revolution. Also going to wait for the new cards.

I couldn't resist so I jumped in and went HAM on upgrades to my current (already quite powerful) rig.

Like you said, if Rocket Lake is the revolution it supposed to be, I will treat it as next-generation of PC and do a completely new build around it.

When you have a dedicated graphics card, does Windows 10 automatically update the drivers for it or is that something you still have to do manually?

Could be mistaken on this, but I believe Windows uses a generic driver. You should always DL and install your specific driver manually.

What's to stop Windows from downloading its own video drivers and overwriting them?

OK I'm currently having a hard time deciding between two ultrawide monitors and I'd like to pick NeoGAF's brains to help me choose one:

LG 38GN950 or Samsung Odyssey G9?

LG:
38" 1600p 21:9 IPS 160Hz Gsync/Freesync HDR600

Samsung:
49" 1440p 32:9 VA 240Hz Gsync/Freesync HDR1000

What is your verdict? How would you choose, and why? Or are both crap and you know something better (please let me know)?

LG, because the higher PPI is generally more pleasing. 21:9 is also much more usable than 32:9. 240hz is not something you have to worry about ever due to GPU limits & software bottlenecks (excluding esports titles, but in that case you'd want something else entirely). And finally the HDR for both of them isn't all that good so you'd not miss out on something going for LG over Sammy. True, I would be sad about the contrast tho.

Granted, for the money I'd say fuck both of them. Buy a TV and use a custom resolution. These prices are a complete joke.
