If the PS4 is $599, would you still consider getting it?

It would depend on how they separate themselves from the PC. Currently I'm running 2 7970's so I'm confident I will be able to play next gen games beautifully for a couple years. However I'm also a fan of stuff that traditionally doesn't come out on PC like Final Fantasy(if it ever gets good again), Metal Gear, Insomniac and Sucker punch games. If they can make the PS4 feel like it has a real separate identity from my current PC I'm totally willing to pay a large sum of money for a powerful system. Ultimately I want to be able to play any game that looks interesting to me, so it's up to Sony to make me feel like I need what they are offering right now if they want a sum of cash north of $500 from me. Otherwise I can wait until I feel it's more reasonable and enter the market with a backlog of games to play while I stick with my PC to hold me over.

I wouldn't care if the Xbox or PS was $600, I can see though where that amount of money would price out the casual market and not be wise.

Highest I'll pay is £400 which is about $600 but if that is JUST for the console and ill have to drop another £100+ on games then its too rich for me ill avoid most likely.

However £400 for the console and Killzone and you have my money.

I don't think it will be that much, but knowing what I know now, I would bite. After all, I did for the PS3 and was happy. Considering the PS4 is going to stomp all over the PS3, I could probably stomach it again.

If it's $599 no way. I'm not rich.
In reality I think the price is way too steep for ordinary consumers to impulse buy. I mean the Wii U is already a tough buy at $300, how much more is $600 when people can buy $500 iPads with 99cent Angry Birds compared to the $30 Angry Birds at retail right now.

Day 1. The fact that Sony has gone all out means that in turn I will support them.
Although I still expect the console to be under $500 US.

I'm thinking it will probably launch for around $699 in Australia which is fine with me considering the ps3 was $999 lol

I spent $599 for my 60GB (upgraded to 500GB) launch PS3 that is still going strong. I'm sure I'll buy this for a price anywhere around this if they continue free multiplayer and maybe throw in a few months of PS4Plus.

can I afford it? yes
will I buy it at launch? no

Need a game that I will buy day 1 first. And Im also willing to wait for a price drop
and for the future revision lol

I will not participate in the death of the traditional games industry. Day 1 forever, viva Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.

They sell iPads for $500 and up. I don't see why this isn't worth $600 considering they've shown me they have developer support this time around. I would definitely get one.

I can't carry a PS4 around with me and work on work related items and read/research while on a subway/plane.

This is purely entertainment. A tablet (not just specifically iPads) are much more than entertainment now if you have a proper use for it like I have.

$499 is a tough pill to swallow with 1-2 games on top of it with tax.

$599 doesn't seem unreasonable. As long as online play is still free, it would actually be cheaper in the long run then a $399 Microsoft console.

$399 or bust.

EDIT: Yeah, I'd probably would on second thought. The argument is more compelling when you consider the price of fucking iPads.

You can take an iPad with you anywhere though, and even get a 3G enabled one futher increasing its value anywhere you can bring it. And it has cheaper games.

400-450 is my max price point, and even that's probably going to wait a year or two until everything solid is in place, and up and running.

That, and while a lot of the software features looked cool I'm guessing a good amount will have been delayed come launch time. Might wait for the first hardware revision, honestly.

Not unless there are several games that I couldn't live a year without.

I'd buy what I saw for $450. After E3 and more game reveals probably $599. I expect the price to be closer to the former.

Absolutely yes, PS3 has kept me entertain since launch and continues to. What other system gives you the same features for the a price near that? Small price to pay IMO.

$400 at launch and I'd seriously consider it, but given that nothing announced so far appeals to my gaming sensibilities, I'd probably end up regretting being an early adopter regardless of price

Did it for PS3 and easily got my money's worth.

Would do it again, but I hope for the sake of the console finding success its no higher than 450.

I'd bite at $500 depending on launch lineup and my backlog. Honestly the biggest thing that would keep me from buying a PS4 this fall is the PS3's awesome lineup lol.

Only way I breakdown for $600 is if DICE brings battlefield 4 + mirror's edge 2 at launch.

I would not but then again we don't really know too much of the console and the overall experience it will offer straight out of the gate. Come E3 I'll be able to give you a much better answer.

If It is, I could wait, at this point I'm waiting for the spiral of unfortunate news like what happened with 3ds and vita before stupidly buying it anyways. Between this and 720/steam box news is the only things I'm waiting for before locking this in as a purchasing decision.

Got PS3 for 599 because it felt it was worth it (4USB, BC, CardReader)...PS4 still needs to impress me but i tend towards not beeing an early adopter after 3 PlayStation generations and rather wait this time. if its around 250-300 i will think again.

hahahahahaha no

Seriously though, my console ceiling has been $300 for a while, never paid more for one, and won't in the foreseeable future.

I'd consider it but probably not actually get it.

I did get PS3 for $599... but MAINLY as a Blu-Ray player at the time. (Don't fuckin' hate... I said at the time. Late 2007-early 2008 and on it quickly became a beastly game machine too.) And that was, in retrospect, a bit of a silly purchase.

But at $599, with likely only a couple of games worth getting excited about, without any one huge selling feature (like Blu-Ray was -- the only way to actually make use of that fancy 1080p TV at the time) -- it seems like an almost comical purchase.

Not to mention the giant backlog of this-gen games....

I am not getting it till a couple of years at least, because the lack of native BC; the same shenanigan they pulled with PSV, I bought a PSP after PSV was released only because it didn't take UMDs.

If it supported PS3 games natively, I would considering up to $400
