If the PS4 is $599, would you still consider getting it?

I bought a PS3 at 599. This looks better than that so far. I'd get one. I'd say like, "Depends on the games!" but I buy all the consoles on day 1 anyway so why lie to myself.

haha, same. I'm a console launch whore, it's pretty much the only time I still get giddy as an adult. even when the launch games are 'meh'.

$500 is my upper limit per console, but if they included a second controller and useful additions bundled with that extra $100, I could be tempted. Honestly, I'm sure there will be at least one title that will compel me to purchase on day one, but I've got the next-gen XBOX to purchase at roughly the same time and that won't be cheap, either.

Yep. That's what I paid for the PS3 and I have no regrets. Starting from day one, the PS3 has been my most used piece of AV equipment. I am confident that today, after seven years of refining their infrastructure, the PS4 would represent an even greater value. There really aren't any purchases out there that have as long a useful life in the world of electronics.

Not for $5.99 if I'm supposed to be enamored with cutscene hallway shooters functionally identical to last gen and Wii Music HD. The only vaguely compelling software on display today was Watch Dogs, a platform agnostic game demonstrated on a PC.

The money's likely better spent toward a Geforce Titan for powering an Oculus Rift.

Can't make a decision just yet whether to day 1 this or wait for early adapters to OK it first. Many of the features sound amazing, but chances are all the cool features will be a part of PSN+/PS World, so I'd have to factor in the per month cost on top of the initial investment. Also, no price point given yet, as expected. It's going to fall down to the launch lineup, which I hope will be announced (for the most part) during E3. I think more than anything, this event has made my anticipation for E3 go through the roof. Announcement was amazing, but show me the console, the price, the games, and the subscription cost and then I will make my decision.

Need three really good exclusives to make me jump.

Wii U I bought Mario/zombi/nintendoland

So let's see; if so, no more than $450

From what we know, the PS4 seems like an intense machine, and Sony doesn't seem to be afraid of putting too much inside the console. But looking at what it most cost to make it, I assume it will cost at least $399 at launch. Do you think they can pull off another $599 fiasco for their benefit this time around? Or is even $499 feasible for them to price it at?

its sub 500$ so no need to create threads like this unless ofcourse SONY includes a gaikai subscription deal for 5 years

KZ alone is better than all those . I will pay 600$ for something truely next gen . But why would i pay 350$ for something that is just as powerful as PS3?

That's a good point. I am set up with SLI 670's as it is so it would be mainly for Sony's 1st party games and services which look good (SW) and great (HW/services). Not paying 600 this year though. Highest I'd go is 4-450.

Even with all of the specs we know about...I still need to know more about the services/games as well as the competition before I can make an educated purchasing decision.

Just based on what we know now, I seriously doubt I would go over $399 at launch but if the new Xbox looks underwhelming or there are several exclusive games, I could be persuaded as high as $499.

Ha! Are you guys that hyped? $599would destroy this console and Sony with it. They would become a laughing stock forever.

I'm not sure. I'd have to see what happens at E3.

My upper limit was $499. I really don't think they'll go for $599 again, after what it did to them last time. But then 8GB GDDR5 happened and now I'm not sure.

You're just mad that the conference destroyed one of your servers. Bah!

Yes of course, technology that lasts through the years, remaining useful and impressive costs quite a bit, Sony delivered on their end again...let's see if I can in time for the launch.

I don't think they can pull off $599 and, no, I wouldn't buy it at the price. I'll wait a year or so and look at the consoles then.

.

Yes yes yes.

At 600, they would have to impress me quite a lot. As it stands I see nothing of significance that will make me sad I'm mainly a PC gamer.

Not unless it shows something amazing or they conveniently cram in full BC with all prior platforms. I'm sure my PC as it is now could run anything the PS4 debuts with respectably, maybe a ram upgrade is needed at worst, and if it's REALLY lacking then ram boost + new card would do the trick. Of course showing good games will change this, and I do expect more to be revealed as the system gets closer to release.

I'd also be amazed Sony was willing to fall into this trap again, though at least this time they might have a system that's easily demonstrably stronger than the competition, versus something that seems to be just equal or slightly worse with a blu-ray player bundled with it.

Yes, because that's not prohibitive for my income level at all, but the important thing is that there is no way this is going to cost $599.

The guy introducing it today in no fewer words basically said "yeah, we fucked up the PS3 launch."

Before this thread, I didn't think people would actually suggest anything lower than 400. Even at 400 though, I'd be a little iffy. Though for me it really just depends on timing. I'll never get a console on launch.

I never buy a console at launch.

Need THAT game to buy one. MGS 4 made me buy a PS3, GoW made me buy a PS2, FFVII made me buy a PS1 and so on...

For that price? Hell no.

I would just expect for the console to bomb again and get it for a decent price. Right now dosn't have the software to make me spend so much money on a console...I don't there could be catalogue that could do it.

Launch lineup would need to be very strong. And Watch Dogs better damn well look much better than it does on PS3/360.

I would, that's not my concern (having to spend that amount again). My concern is that if they do that, the PS4 will probably be a failure this time around and I want this system to be successful and endure for many years to come.

Not a chance, though it won't be that high. Sub $350 here, and even then only with multiple worthwhile exclusives, so I expect to be waiting a while.

This guy

399 max for me. Even it is is 399 at launch I would wait unless there were games I really, really need to play and I didn't see anything today. Also weary of buying any new console considering that both my first ps3 and 360 (both not launch consoles) died within 3 years of owning them.

No one has played the new Killzone so how could we know it's better?

Anyway, maybe if the price is closer to $400 I'll bite. $599 is way too much.

So you'd spend a 900 bucks for a Titan to play functionally identical last gen games in 3D at 120fp?
