Gameplay walkthrough from E3,

It's almost like it's not finished.

Weird.
Im sorry but if your controls are not nailed down to the point theyre considered "unplayable" (assuming their take is accurate which people in this thread dispute) you better be showing this game extremely early otherwise thats inexcusable.
Controls are the basic foundation of any game they should be one of the first things if not THE first thing nailed down in development.

I see like everyone automatically believing these lies and saying "I'm not surprised". The same people who were never getting this game period. This game will slay

I like how everyone just ignores the GAFfers that played the E3 demo and just go "Yeah coz David Cage can't make a good game, bet it's shit lololol"

Well I haven't really been that excited for this game either eventhough I liked HR for what it was, but how can they be complaining about an unfocused story when they played just 20 mins of the Somalia location?

I didn't quite understand the comment about you having to press a button to get in and out of cover and that the camera was facing the character. Isn't it like that in most third person cover-based shooters?

I didn't play it at the Sony booth, but my two friends who did said it was pretty good.

You're like the 4th person in here saying non negative things about this game. So yeah people here just wanna find reasons to hate this game smh a mess

If by "unplayable" they mean Heavy Rain unplayable then I'm fine.
Would love to have a demo and see for myself before release.

The story complaints are nonsense at this point, but can I get some impressions from Gaf users who played the game @ e3? Is it really unplayable?

Come on if Ellen Page is not the first thing that comes to your mind when looking at Ellie you are weird

Doesn't look anything like her at all. Not even one bit.
Ellie is is like 14 while Ellen Page is in her mid 20s. I think her resemblance to Ellen page was actually started on this site when the Last of Us was first revealed. One person jokingly said she looked like Ellen page. Was probably the first or second post. Then of course everyone copied that first or second post.

They really don't resemble each other at all. This site is the only site that thinks that.

Saw this coming. The previews for this game are all over the place. It looks hardly playable and more like a slightly interactive movie.

The story is interesting and I love EP, so I wish they had just made this a film or miniseries than under the guise of a video game.

I tried the demo of Heavy Rain once and when I realized that the challenge of the game came from trying to navigate my character around a corner, I turned it off. It's like they went out of their way to make the controls completely unintuitive. Why can't I just push the stick in the direction I want to go?

The Ellen Page comparison started right after the first reveal trailer of TLoU, Beyond wasn't shown until much later.

I do agree that Heavy Rain was a flawed game, but I did appreciate what Quantic Dream was doing and I thought story-wise it was not bad; I enjoyed it for what it is.

And I'm sure David Cage had these Somalia scenes for Beyond from the beginning and not something they conjured up later. Whether or not he wanted this part of the story just to appease CoD players is questionable, but I doubt it. I don't think he's one to follow in another game's footsteps just to get a certain audience and he has said in the past that he doesn't make games for the money. But as I say this, first impressions of what I've read so far, Beyond is starting to sound less promising. I'd rather they go more the Heavy Rain adventure route than a 3rd person action/adventure as Quantic Dream aren't really known to do that very well. I want to say this is all part of his plan, but I guess we'll see in 4 months when it's released.

Who's Ellen Page?

Nevermind, googled. Haven't seen any of her work. She does look like the girl in the pictures/video I've seen of TLOU, though.

Interested in Beyond Two Souls. Hopefully it turns out "playable." Will also add Heavy Rain to my list of games to ultimately try out in my copious spare time.

That's the thing. I take the opinion of GAF members on games more seriously than big sites like IGN, so I'm not sure why people are ignoring it instead of asking these people questions about the controls given that they've played the game. I guess it's easier to make the same unfunny jokes about QD and David Cage ad-nauseam.

If they felt the same about heavy rain I will not worry personally. These games have fixed cameras, it's a bit odd to control but I'm used to it (older Residen Evils, HR, Indigo, etc.). The story thing, time sorta skips a lot in Beyond, I'm sure I'll be able to keep up. I'll keep my eye out for more impressions, IGN caused me to be cautious. Beyond is the only game I'm looking forward to outside of Saints Row 4 at the moment.

Oh man, I just entered this thread and haven't seen E3 impressions from gaf (I watched a video of the demo played by someone and saw how excited they were over stuff they did.

I'm so relieved right now, goodness.

I don't think "this game is unplayable" is really an opinion.

If you would have bothered to watch the video the guy said he couldn't play the demo because he couldn't invert the controls, and then went on to say he expects that to be fixed in the final game where he can choose inverted controls. The same guy in the very same video who described the story of Heavy Rain as "very good". But yeah, lol ign bias.

Because obviously they don't like QD games they are here to hate. I hope this game sells millions. So we can get more QD games like this on PS4 ;_; Dark Sorcerer whatever that will turn out to be

Uhh sorry, point me to where i said they were biased? o_O I said "I'll put it down as IGN being IGN", you yourself assumed i meant "they're biased". I actually meant they like to make a big deal out of things which really aren't, but okay...

So it is not same control scheme as COD ?
shit must be bad. (lol)

Heavy Rain didn't have best controls but it did its job

QD really knows how to craft a gorgeous game, but I'm just not sure Cage will ever be able to blend gameplay with story the way he wants too. Hopefully this turns around, but not sure it will.

Well, that's depressing to hear. I loved Heavy Rain and have been looking forward to this one.

Of course, controls weren't exactly Heavy Rain's strong point so...we'll see.

Watching the 20 minute demo and the controls seem fine. The section with Jodie might cause some confusion though and create the illusion that the controls are a mess due to no screen prompts.
