IGN: The Order 1886 seems great, except for one thing

Yes but does it?

Does it compliment those other aspects?

You were enquiring about other people's perceptions of RAD's intentions based on their quote, not about if those intentions will indeed be proven in-game.

You're kinda moving the goalposts a little there.

It's always looked iffy from the first gameplay reveal where it just looked like another cover shooter. But l still hope this delivers as it looks stunning.

Still won't get the praise for the storytelling. All what we have seen/heard about it, is plain ridiculous. It sounds like "I, Frankenstein", in terms of storytelling. Thats totally fine, but not praiseworthy.

Case of presentation triumphs story, which is so often the case with videogames?

Some friends of mine played it at fan expo yesterday and didn't have a good time with it either. It really boiled down to the fact that it was nice to look at, but playing it felt stiff and restrictive. The delay should do some good, but we're this far out and I haven't seen much focus on gameplay as far as media goes.

I think that the fact alone that they chose to make this a shooter (a generic one) shows to me that it doesn't matter to them that much. The gameplay element that is. As long as its what the mainstream prefers to play. And it kind of makes sense considering his first lines in his quote. Overall, i don't think that they care so much about gameplay, or even if it complementing the story in any meaningful way. Only that it exists.

People get drawn in by hype too much. Its a next gen game but the rules still apply.

If this is a story-based game then bad gameplay is a hindrance to the story; if they want the story to be the central concept then change the gameplay to reflect this. Truth is, gameplay merged with storylines has been a part of gaming since before video games - its called an RPG or an adventure game.

I do actually have some issues with the art; mostly that player and AI models are generic and lack an identity; the monsters seem a bit bland and not much to them. Whilst the use of human enemies is so utterly uninspiring that the game (and its story along with it) become generic 'by the numbers'.

Seriously; if you are a fan of the visuals and want story based games, why do you put up with mechanics getting in the way of that?

What are the chances we see a delay? If I were RAD I'd let Bloodbourne take Q1 2015 and launch in the summer. Polish the game and let more people discover it over the summer game drought.

AAA is too risky to endure a flop. It's studio destroying. Hell, even studios that have a high selling game are getting reduced or shuttered.

Another delay? Doubtful but who knows.

Oh Thank God! I was afraid no one is going to mention that word.

Unless it's a long delay to 2016, it would be pointless. 2015 is completely loaded, but will be much worse in the fall. It has a chance for criticial acclaim, but I don't think it's going to sell.

2015 Summer feels pretty empty.

Thanks for showing your true colours, saves me the effort of talking to you any further.

The divide usually comes from people either having played a good FPS or not. Much like Killzone it appears to be subpar compared to similar games, and dull as dishwater to boot, but covered up by nice visuals. Perhaps the same could be said of other Sony games with mediocre design. I'm sure the writing will be equally bad. It seems to work for them though since there is a fairly large contingent of people who will fall over themselves to buy something that has a nice coat of paint.
Wow, the pathetic elitism & condecending attitude reeking from this post... Killzones are (mostly) well designed FPS games. The stories & characters are shit, but there's nothing subpar about the gameplay. It's heavier than your twitch-shooters, which some gamers prefer, but that's not objectively bad. Maybe that's not your thing, but to sit on such a high horse and condemn everyone who likes Killzones and a lot of Sony's games as some kind of idiots who play any shit as long as it looks good is so sad and pathetic.

The reviews are going to be harsh as hell for this game. Going in with no preconceived notions it may be a great cinematic experience to play through, but the trouble is most people are assuming it's going to at least play like your average TPS, if not like a Gears or Uncharted. The surprise may be that it's actually more like an old school CoD mixed with Beyond, and heavy on the latter.

I'm not one to call anyone out for being a shill, but good grief.

Especially as they're describing some of the basic key differences between a good traditional linear game and a bad one-pacing and variety-and acting like it's something new.

What annoys me the most about the game is that it's supposed to be about hunting werewolves, yet all we see is shooting hundreds of humans in standard corridors. It's like hey we have this amazing concept. Let's throw it out of the window and do what everyone else is doing.

Yeah after the first trailer suggested some sort of hunt for supernatural creatures I was expecting far more creative enemy design and scenarios, but all that's been shown so far is cover-manshoot and insanely scripted monster encounters.

The League of Extraordinary for me, and that was a great movie.

Honestly besides a few trailers here and there, the only real combat we've seen/heard about is just the same demo over and over again. So it's really hard to get a grasp on how actual encounters in the game work when we've only seen kinda one and small scatters of them in some of the trailers.

Then it doesn't really seem great, now does it IGN?

The article is sadly on the money regarding every single gameplay video I've seen of The Order.

I guess they just haven't revealed that much of the story yet. But I agree that it so far looks just like a bunch of serious looking men and women chasing werewolves through London. Not much drama.

Yeah the gameplay doesn't look anything great from the videos we have seen. I am not hype for this game at all.

Why do they keep showing the same demo?

I know, they really need to show something different. Showing that same stage, with that same thermite rifle isn't doing them any favours. They need to give people a hands-on with the shotgun and the semi-auto rifle, and include larger and more varied areas.

There's only been like one gameplay video, lol. I guess Tiddums is right. The game is 5 minutes long.

I can only comment on what has been shown to me. :P There are two that I can think of, the super David Cagey E3 conference demo and the E3 show floor demo.

The game may end up being completely boring and unfunny, nobody knows, but this article is beyond stupid.

This journalist based this whole article on the fact he failed to understand how the Thermite Gun worked. "a machine gun that also fired off explosive-flares" ? How more clueless could one be ?

They don't want to reveal too much about the story right? Well those story moments may actually constitute most of the gameplay, which explains why we haven't seen much it...

Hopefully it ends up being completely funny

Another IGN article claiming a game is boring and that it doesn't play well... because they don't know how to play the damn game.

This reminds me of their review of Lonesome Road, where the reviewer claimed the plot "didn't make sense", in the very same article she admitted to completely ignoring all of it.

Result? Lonesome Road got a 6.5, while the utter rubbish and waste of time that was Mothership Zeta ("BUT D00D! IT HAS ALIENS!) got a 7.

Fuck IGN.

I just watched the latest trailer, and even that is entirely human-based outside of a small bit at the end (which seems comprised of parts of the Werewolf sequence we already saw). You could argue that they have a surprise up their sleeve and it couldn't really be countered until the game is out, but (with the possible exception of Kojima's) I'd say trailers are usually a good sign of the intended direction of a game.

Don't think I have seen enough fotage to make up my mind with this game. Not played all that many TPS but this look's like the rest from the video's. Gonna buy it anyway cause viually it look's great as long as the game play isn't as bad as killzone ill be happy. A good story should keep me playing it and the setting which it seem's it may have.

True, but I wouldn't be surprised if you just fight humans till we find that first werewolf. Then after that they start to come more and more into battles. Now whether that will be nearer to the beginning of the game or closer to the end I have no way of knowing.
