im so tempted to switch permanently to consoles

I wouldnt. Just made the switch to pc. I was a pretty big xbox fanboy, but eventuallly i just got sick and tired of being told to wait and wait. On my pc ill get every xbox exclusive day one, whenever microsoft decides to release them, and they will look and run much better on my 4090 then they would on a series x. I boot up my ps5 very rarely for the odd exclusive, the switch gets just about as much use as my pc because i love nintendo games

Well, if you ignore the half of the best console games and all console vr games. I personally don't see much value in 3 years of gamepass. I could buy the games I wanted on there for cheaper than the yearly sub.

Unless you're only wanting 2 games, you're not buying all the games for cheaper than 3 years of gamepass for $150 ($50 per year).

I kinda did that but it started with 360 where I played exclusives. Now I play more and more stuff on ps5. I enjoy getting discs and not caring about anything. Just play. Free from all the bs for me.
Yeah I still game on pc but for new big titles I often go console.

Get a ps5 man

The only advantage of consoles are exclusives. Xbox has halo infinite (lmao) and a rhythm game. Sony does not release enough exclusives per year to justify playing only on a ps5 alone. Getting a new gpu every few years is pretty much the same as buying a new gen console but with more options.

If you have a somewhat decent gaming PC you REALLY dont need an Xbox imo and thats coming from someone who own both a PC and Series X

I would snag a PS5 and maybe upgrade the PC a little and you would be set imo

As far as game coverage, you are correct. PC and PS5 will give you the vast majority of games as all Xbox first party games are on PC. That really only leaves Switch as a platform with a significant number of games not included.

I'm the other way around. I've been a console only player since the day I discovered video games, and thought PC gaming was just complicated and annoying, but since I've started dabbling with PC gaming last year I'm tempted to switch all together. PC is much more flexible and with Steam and Game Pass, launching a game is pretty simplified. The performance is better (most of the time), the content is more varied with old and new games, no online fees etc. I think PS5 will mark the end of future console generations for me, and I will go full frontal PC.

Sell your consoles and get a 6750XT or equivalent. Your PC plays all the new Xbox games, and Sony has seen the light and is bringing their games over.

- Save money with no online fees, and cheaper games.
- Sign up for Game Pass and use Microsoft Rewards to cover your membership.
- Continue collecting your weekly free games.
- Continue having access to thousands of games Xbox/PlayStation players lack.
- Buy the occasional bundle and find yourself with a huge backlog.
-Sit back and watch console plebs fight over whose walled garden is better.

I'm the opposite - switched from consoles to PC recently.

The older I get, the less I care about getting Day 1 releases (Hogwarts Legacy and Dead Space remake I had to have right away though). I don't really care about bleeding edge graphics anymore either, 1080p with DLSS looks fine to me. The backlog of available games is unmatched, and by the time I get around to playing the game it's most likely patched up or just not worth playing over other titles anyway.

Pc gaming is annoying but my 3080 can still offer way better performance than consoles. Do you really want to play forspoken at 720p just to get 60 fps? Dead space drops to 960p in its 60 fps mode. Gotham knights was capped at 30 fps. Guardians of the galaxy couldn't even hit 60 fps at 1080p.

Granted forspoken and dead space are using fsr but the base resolution is really that low and it makes the games look awful.
Yeah, playing forspoken on console was a disgrace.

There was a time I think the same way, simpler times those were.

You know what's the console game that made me switch to PC? Far Cry 3 Blood Dragon on PS4/PS5, locked 30fps and insanely large joystick deadzone, literally unplayable without aim assist.
That's when I realized we console players are treated like dumb little kids.

''Why would you need precise aiming? Just turn on aim assist lol, and 60fps? Oh come on you can't even tell the difference anyway...''

For every one developer that gives a shit about precise aiming and smooth framerate on consoles, there're like three that just don't give a crap.

I used my xbox the most for years. But i was also very hyper critical of microsofts innability to put out big games. The delays last year were honestly the final straw for me. Dont get me wrong, im still excited to play forza, starfield, snd perfect dark when they actually release, but the endless delays and rumors of development hell burnt me out.

Never had any interest in PC gaming because it was KB&M only. Nowadays though it's different.

Alas I'm a console player at heart. Maybe someday.

Right now i have a pc ( 3900x , 1080 ti , 32 gb ram ) , a ps4 pro and a xbox one x

I like gaming on the pc , its hooked to my tv so its not like i have to sit on my chair all the time , it just that i find it a little annoying that i constantly have to worry about upgrade , i like the easy use of consoles , just put the disk in and play , and you know 100% that the game will be optimized

with the pc now i have to change the gpu because its starting to show its age in 1440p , after 2 or 3 years i have to change cpu and mother board , and it keeps going , considering that i dont care about high fps the only disadvantage that i see is the graphics because i like high graphics and in 2 or 3 years i expect the consoles to struggle to reach medium settings

should i just pull the plug and game only on consoles ? i have reached a point in my life ( 33 years old ) where i just cant afford to spend all the money on gaming so i cant continue with all platforms

Understandable.

It really depends on what you like and what you play often.

If you leave PC gaming, I'd say RTS titles would be the biggest things effected, other then that a PS5 or Series X is a massive value compared to jumping back into a new PC build.

I'm currently building a few right now and I love PC gaming, but its a luxury, its not really a thing one can do with a mindset of saving money or "value" lol So you'll be good for like 99.9% of the biggest AAA titles coming out buying console imho.

With Xbox and PS games on PC, why not just go all out PC?

Yeah, playing forspoken on console was a disgrace.
Honestly i was appalled that it a.) received such a downgrade and that b.) a next grn exclusive title ran and looked so poorly on what should be a high end next gen machine. Same with games like deathloop. Really, a game like that needs to run at 1080p to hit 60fps on a ps5 or series x?

I have been console gamer all my life and so far nothing made me want to switch to PC gaming

I'm more than happy with my PS5/Switch combo.

Go ahead and join the next-gen. No worries about upgrades. Plug and play. You can also play stuff like God of War and Horizon, FF16, etc., without waiting years for a PC version.

in what way am i dramatic ?
Because you have hardware that's more than capable right now that already gives you console level performance. Now to be fair, the PS5 is supposedly 3060 Ti level performance and your 1080 Ti is about 15% off that mark. You turn turn down a few settings, and you're right there just like how consoles use medium and high. That's why I said you're being dramatic. You don't have to keep updating your hardware to enjoy games even at the console level.

Speak no more wench. You dont deserve the glory of your green round rodent eyes and i refuse to gaze at them any longer.
SHAME HIM! SHAME HIM!

2/10 bait.
is not bait. AAA usually are poorly optimized on PC. devs tend to squeeze better performance from consoles; in relation to value/price to performance nothing can beat consoles.

the most interesting things happening on the PC side are weird games. i just discovered a game called Project Zomboid. pretty crazy.

PS5 is already a 1080p machine if you want to play in quality mode.

You only need a GPU upgrade in your existing rig to blow right past these aging consoles.

Why settle for a puny game library when you can play thousands of games spanning a multitude of generations?

Wow OP? You're really debating this?

Even an Intel Arc A770 for peanuts will give console equivalent performances

$20 more for a 6700XT which will perform even better (maybe not RT though?)

Stop thinking about Ultra settings and all RT effects, because you won't get that on consoles, and even worse image quality since they don't even do anisotropic filtering worth a damn.

that may be true but a 3070ti still absolutely blows any console performance out the water, no matter how optimized.

Yeah, I say if you want to play minus troubleshooting consoles are the way to go.

You may need to reboot but that's usually the end of troubleshooting.

Half life 2 sound bugs and stutters on release (after spending money upgrading gpu and ram) was the final straw for me. Its still a lot simpler and cheaper to just deal with consoles. The benefits of PC are clear, but it requires a lot more commitment in time and money to ensure you get that benefit.

OP has a 3900X CPU. 1080ti GPU, which is definitely going to be showing its age now for anything over 1080p.

OP could easily swing something like an RTX 3060, and still come out paying less than the price of a console while getting a pretty big performance jump.

You aren't really PC gaming until you run quad 4090ti setup.

Here's one simple test to see if you might prefer PC gaming or console gaming:

Question : Do you like the idea of turning on aim assist when playing an FPS?

Yes)
If the answer is YES then it means you don't mind having the game taking some control away from you and nudge your point of aim from time to time. You also don't care much about headshots, as long as you're dealing damage that's good enough to you. You only want a good time afterall, who cares if the game helps you aim a little?

No) If the answer is NO then it means you prefer having freedom of control during gameplay and you don't mind putting in slightly more effort to aim. You also value the idea that you're able to hit a target without the game's help, you feel like a badass when you clear an entire room of badguys with 7 consecutive headshots.

Your answer pretty much sums up your gaming mind set, and that alone should affect your prefered platform.
I was the latter for a long time even though I only game on PS4 and eventually I got so frustrated by low FPS and terrible joystick deadzones (I fucking hate aim assist btw) that I ended up switching to PC entirely.
Turns out I'm meant to be a PC gamer.

Reasons to switch to console:

1. Controllers vs. Keyboard. Sure, MKB might be more accurate, have infinite button assignments and customization - BUT they also have letters on them, and way more holes to collect debris.

Controllers - look cooler! Haptic feedback!

2. Exclusives generally come faster. Unless you choose Xbox. If you choose Xbox, you are putting yourself in a worse loop than PC. If you choose PS, you get exclusive day 1. Also, ps5 has that horrific pretentious pretend art look that is a conversation piece for sure!

3. The most important. Perception.

Let me explain, purely by example.

If you are meeting a lady- "want to come back and play some PlayStation and watch Netflix?"

This is socially acceptable.

However…

"WaNt To CoMe OvEr AnD cHeCk OuT mY gAmInG PC wiTh My NeW 406969 GrApHiCs CaRd?!?!11!?"

She running.

The 3900x will last you through the entire PS5/XSX generation. Even if you buy a current generation console, I doubt PS5/XSX will deliver better results compared to your CPU. When it comes to your GPU, I have GTX1080 (10.5TF) and except RT games I can match PS5 settings, so your 1080ti should be doing an even better job.

Compared to your current PC, you will be able to play games with RT on PS5, but these games usually runs at 30fps with VSYNC on. Something like a RTX3060 12GB should match PS5 results in RT games (so at least 30fps), and because you dont need to use VSYNC on PC latency will be much better compared to PS5 running games at 30fps.

People think PS5 run games at 4K with close to maxed out settings, but that's not really the case. For example here's how Dead Space remake runs on current gen consoles.

What is great about consoles is that it is a more of a curated gaming experience. I was surprised at the special features and videos that they have about games.
Also, you can sell the discs.

Yes you should.

Much more convenient. You get big the biggest exclusives first (Good luck waiting an extra year for GTA6). And the graphics, etc are all built around consoles anyway.

Not a single developer in the industry is pushing that extra horsepower you get on PC by making games built FOR PC ala Crysis.
