In this thread: Penny Arcade once again shows their undying Microsoft loyalty

Oh I get it

The idea that Killzone 2 will be a savior is as made up as those biblical stories featured in the strip right?

People overlook RROD because of the games they've invested in, not the console itself. There are great things about Xbox Live, but if it had the same exact line up as the 360 does all the way down the line, I would not be an Xbox 360 user.

This is also true. The other killer is that for the vast majority of broadband-connected gamers, the majority of their friends have 360s. So, even if you'd rather play multiplatform game "X" on your PS3, you will still go with the 360 version. It's a cycle that has perpetuated itself throughout this generation for many of us.

A buddy of mine put it neatly when he said that when he plays his PS3, he feels like he's on an island because the rest of us are on our 360s, gaming together and passing messages back and forth. And we're 30+ year old married men, FFS. I can't imagine what the peer pressure does for the younger set's gaming purchases and habits.

A lot of 360s are going to be RRODed by a Jin-Roh trooper with a magical staff? I don't get it, how is this pro Nintendo?

Wait I think I get it!

Egyptians (ps3 owners) have been having shitty lives until now, until moses (killzone 2) comes to save them from their life of "no games lololol". I don't really see the parallel between the red sea and the broken 360s though.

Go watch Prince of Egypt.

anyway :lol :lol :lol

Funniest thing I've seen all year

Yeah, in this case, you're fanboy of your friends, still, not the console.

Up until this thread, the theory that "GAF users can literally not detect sarcasm, even moreso than any other internet forum" was only supported by anecdotal evidence.

I'd say this thread pushes the theory into solid fact.

That people are actually ready to take this comic at face value instead of perceiving it as sarcasm directed at the PS3 fanboys hyping the game as the PS3's lord and saviour just shows how far the delusion has already taken the Sony faithful.

So a very striking part of the Exodus story is how God in fact keeps Pharaoh from letting the Israelites go. Does this parallel with the whole "We don't provide the 'easy to program for' console that developers want." thing?

I'm looking more towards the future, who will be the false idol they sony zealots worship when their savior leaves them to their own devices?

Which makes the comic all the more humorous.

There's a steady supply of candidates this year ;D At least there'll be a steady supply of games that might cause excitement among ps3 owners..such that mocking jealousy may continue to emerge among 'non-sony/ps3-zealots/fanboys'.

I'm continually amazed how annoyed some folk get over others' excitement or, even, 'positive fanboy-ism'.

I love you guys, but it might be time for some of you to put down the gamepads and crack a book or two.

This thread is like listening to McDonald's employees discuss Shakespeare.

This thread is like listening to GameStop's employees discuss Dante's Inferno.

Let me sharpen that analogy for you.

I like comics that mock multiple systems equally. How people perceive them shows us an awful lot about their biases. :D

It's pretty clear everyone is seeing what they want to see in it. Those who want to laugh at the Sony "faithful" ignore the last pane and focus on the first. Those who want to take it as some sort of redemption for the PS3 focus on the last and not the first.

I don't think PA was taking sides in the system wars with this strip.

Isn't there a new game called Dante's Inferno? :lol

How about Gamestop employees discussing James Joyce?
wikipedia said:
Dante's Inferno is an upcoming third-person action adventure video game to be published by Electronic Arts and developed by EA Redwood Shores.[1] The game is based off the cantina of the same name from Dante Aligheri's epic poem The Divine Comedy.

I think their overall point does come down against one 'side', and I'm ready to rip them a new one that being the case.. (from a GAF perspective on PS3 game hype, at least).

Penny-Arcade laid on the PS3 hate pretty thick back in 2006, but softened considerably ever since. I prefer not to read bad intentions into it on either "side". Maybe that's my bias.

They were pretty positive about Killzone 2 in the past but I'd say odds are the mixture is 90% mocking Private Hoffman vs. 10% KZ2 praise and RROD lols.

Whining and bitching about the Sony fanbase(or is it Killzone fans? I can't remember) again are we? Let it go man.

Anyway, I like the comic. I like how it's drawn(especially the lighting), and the biblical theme and colors remind me of castle vidcons. The ambiguity of the actual message is admirable too. I don't usually dig Penny-Arcade, but this is a good set of panels.

Well, it's quite possible the panel is directed solely at Sony and their presentation of KZ2. But if it's directed at a perceived broader set of PS3 or KZ2 fans prone to 'hype' then I think it's off the mark (in terms of the point it's making, rather than, necessarily, teh funnay).

Would have been even funnier had they put a cat with a helmet instead of the guy in the first panel.

yes, this is the thing that shows that. As if people liking home wasn't enough.

At least in the case of Killzone 2, it will probably be a good game. I'll hopefully get a taste of that based on the demo tomorrow.

I just hope that this isn't another case of people having negative feeling towards something because of the hyperbole spit out about it...assuming it's a good game and all.
