Well this is going to be fun. Also started reading Crucible myself (the in-between novel). Starts off talking about people who survived the 2-day invasion, now Stephen Hiller is fighting alien survivors who are using their tentacles to control humans to use SAMs.

Independence Day 2 was never going to have a deep message. It was always gonna be nonsense alien invasion disaster porn and that's honestly the entire appeal to it. Not any sort of deep resonating message.

Only problem I have with it is Whitmore's death. Hopefully they change that for the movie. That death should be the crescendo, not the school bus.

The third movie sounds like it's going to be exactly what I hoped it would be.

I'm only disappointed they didn't decide to rotate the holiday theme. This one should've been called Veterans Day (although then it couldn't be a summer release I guess) and then the third one could have been called Memorial Day.

Eh, After Earth was the last blockbuster Smith has been in.
It was an awful movie on top of nobody wanting to see a movie with him pushing his son's career.
The year before that was Men in Black 3 which did well and he basically carried solo,
He honestly has 1 blockbuster flub lately going back to 2000 with AfterEarth.

Something like concussion was never going to do that well regardless of who is in it or potentially how great it could be.

Focus was not good
Seven Pounds was shit
Hancock and I Am Legend were alright.

You gotta go back 10 years to get to the last legitimately decent performance in anything. And even then, you go back any farther and you wind up stumbling into bullshit like Hitch and I, Robot.

He's been fucking up.

I want Independence Day 3 to start with the Alien homeworld with the Aliens acting all chill and then...a shadow...

Earth spaceships towering over the landmarks and blowing them the fuck up.

So it seems that they are sticking to the original plan, to see the ID franchise as a trilogy.
In an interview Roland Emmerich had mentioned that the 1st sequel would end in a sort of cliffhanger. But that was when Will Smith was still considered as part of the story.
Maybe the idea to have ID Resurgence end with a cliffhanger hasn't changed after all.

Actually the first thing I thought of was Michael Crichton's novel Sphere, which came out in the 80s.

I give them credit for not being a complete copy of the original. Hopefully there will be moments in the film where characters get a little downtime to reflect and shit, I really liked that aspect of the original.

I will say, this is one crazy sounding summer blockbuster. It could be either amazing or awful. Maybe both?

Last thing, whatever happened to Bill Pullman's voice?

This sounds like a fun time. Which is all I expect it to be. A fun 2 hours with Jeff goldblum chewing scenery the whole time.

I think the novelization sounds awesome.

I also hope whoever is the new composer reuses that Independence Day theme.

The stuff involving the queen sounds like it will either be ridiculously awesome or ridiculously terrible.

Nah, most of the ads have shown some sort of giant monster's foot coming down. A literal big-bad was pretty easy to guess, that it's an Alien Queen (even has the headpiece) won't be much of a surprise.

Remember, thats just the biomech armor. Actual queen inside it is a lot smaller (though still fucking huge).
