The amount of interaction in the next Persona game ideally surpases that of Catherine. Dont think hey're not gonna do tons of animations/voice acting and fancy models. It's gonna end up being portraits on screen as an addition to the smaller models again, and i'd be fine with that if handheld.
So in other words, Catherine was completely pointless and an utter waste of time then? They said openly it was a test pilot for the engine and style they wanted to use for the next-gen Persona game. Why bother with that if they're going to then turn around and shit out another PS2-looking game on the 3DS?
It'd be complete bullshit, and I'd probably skip the game out of sheer spite if it happened. Atlus has been recycling PS2-quality assets over and over again for the entire past decade. It's time for them to move into the future with everyone else.
PS3 probably the most ideal platform for it and with vita version down the road.
Its hard to believe they not gonna take P3/P3P and P4/P4G sales model success again.

Persona is old hat now. I want Soul Hackers 2.
yeah I definetly want that thread to happen now for this meltdown potential
Just asking. Isn't SMT - Nintendo and Persona - Sony?

Wouldn't really be a meltdown, would just be Atlus losing a sale. *shrug* Nobody's holding a gun to my head saying I have to buy the game, and if it's another lazy PS2-level game, I'm just not going to.
Easy enough for everyone.
There reasoning is even worse and in most cases is just a selfish desire because they do not own other platforms or because they like to play on handhelds.

yeah clearly no one actually wants it in handhelds for proper reasons, nevermind those giving some
jeez gaf

You take forum poster meltdown over game that gonna satisfy even yourself, neat.
Care to show me some.
Seems more likely than going handheld first and then HD version later.
Persona has always been with Sony. SMT has been with Nintendo only recently (after PS2).
Of course that doesn't stop certain people from hoping for some crazy platform choices like WiiU exclusive, 3DS exclusive, Vita Exclusive etc.
Err... any example to game that doing this?
Its easier to hype up portable version of console game than the otherwise.

You'll get more info...next week...in a Ninty direct.Awesome, hopefully we'll see something at TGS.
Because that have many other alternative 100+hour JRPGs they can play on their handhelds. Because Persona's one of the very, very few JRPG franchises that's big enough to turn a profit on a console instead of JRPG's typical ways of 'playing it safe' on handhelds.the one you mention in your own post, for example.
people who prefer to play on handhelds
how is it selfish for someone to say they'd prefer a 100+hour JRPG experience on a device that is more comfortable and handy for them? how is that different or any less "selfish" than people who'd prefer to sacrifice that in order to have better graphics? people want what's best for them and what they personally prefer. Apparently that's worth pointing out as selfish now.

Pretty sure they actually never said this.
It won't look like a PS2 game. It also won't have anywhere near the production values you see in other RPGs. Surely this is all obvious?
Are you actually a fan of Persona games or do you reallly just want some kind of RPG for the home consoles?
I cant fathom a Persona fan saying they'll skip a game just because of the bloody graphics. People don't play them for the graphics, the art style sure but its mostly about the gameplay and story.
i mean it won't have square enix level production values, but i imagine it will be on par with other jrpgs
I just want Persona 5 in X form dude. Im fine with whatever happens as long as it happens. Im not life or death about it.
This post is so fucking silly.I am a fan of both. I'm not expecting the game to have FFXV or Skyrim-level graphics, I just want Atlus to stop making PS2-looking games and evolve with the times. And I want them to make good on their promise to use Catherine's engine for a next-gen Persona. Otherwise, I wasted $60 on a goddamn Q-Bert clone.
Look, I'm not expecting or asking you to agree with me. I'm just sick to death of JRPGs languishing away on handhelds while all I have to play on the consoles is fucking shooters. I've been nursing a massive blood blister on my thumb all week because of the 3DS' tiny-ass buttons. And that's from Animal Crossing, a game that requires maybe 20 minutes of playtime at a time at best. A 60-hour JRPG would probably destroy my entire fucking hand.
.
if it's a console game and looks on par with Tales of Xillia, I'd be happy. That's all I want - a game that actually looks modern.
persona has never looked "modern" so i can't imagine why you would expect that now
that'd be like expecting it to be on a non-sony system
moving away from gamebryo should have been the first indication of that. Though whether they move to handheld or something else remains to be seenSo in other words, Catherine was completely pointless and an utter waste of time then? console loyalty does not exist in third parties unless they have literally signed a console exclusivity agreement. no such agreement between atlus (index) and sony exists.
Enjoying a handheld game for its portability is in no way selfish. Wanting a console game (mainline Persona's have always been on consoles) to be on a handheld just for the reason that YOU enjoy playing on a handheld is.
Selfishness is placing concern with oneself or one's own interests above the well-being or interests of others.
I see what you did there.
The fact of the matter is, if Persona can't be bothered to release a console game in 2013, then JRPG players that want something nice looking are fucked everywhere except for Square Enix.
WTH? Tales of ? Or even x for the wiiu? And Square won't be releasing anything until late 2014 at the earliest. So console JRPG players are pretty much boned for two entire years.

I just think speaking of "selfishness" when it comes to videogames or a game series is just kinda stupid.
Like if one has the option to have a game they want in their prefered platform for that game, do you expect them to reject that because in some other guy/girl's mind its unfair to them? decisions are made on certain grounds and whatever decisions is made is because it's the one that made more sense. The people have nothing to do with it (beyond numbers) and calling them out for speaking their mind on what they prefer is just weird.
"hey you're a selfish asshole for wanting this on a platform different than the one I want it in! be fair you already got lots of other games!" I mean what?
Then why you complaining then?

As I've said before, why would anyone purposefully prefer this downgrade
'I can play it on handhelds.' Yeah, there's also a dozen other JRPGs you can play on handhelds.
Hell, might I refer you to Shin Megami Tensei IV.
Yeah, there's no better way to say it. Some people still don't get it. I don't know what to tell them.
