After following for some time the Indie thread I can finally show my new videogame!
Detective Case and Clown Bot in: Murder in the Hotel Lisbon

neogaf.jpg

Design:
I was inspired by the classic point and click adventures from the 80’s and 90’s. It adopts these eras characteristically design and it is built using only the pixel art technique.
It has a base resolution of 256x192 but it wil run full screen and will adapt according to size. All backgrounds have a minimum of 512px wide so if the screen is wider it will always be ok.
Lot's of crazy pixel art work at very low resolutions can get your eyes strained but the final look is worth it.

Mechanics:
It's a classical point and click adventure.
Talk to NCPs, gather clues, solve cases.
I added a new game mechanic to the equation where you can interview people showing them items and asking the right questions.
You can also fast travel and do stupid things (more on this later)
Main quest and sidequests available.

I am trying to make all screenshots as animated GIFs.

We will first launch for Windows, Mac and Linux and think about more later.
We have a good friend that created a more official thread here on gaf with more info so wait for that or just hop on to our website :)

We are a 2 man team working together at the Lisbon Studio in Lisbon, Portugal, with 3 more people doing music, art, and production that are not here on a day to day basis with us. We are using Game Maker: Studio from Yoyo games and we will self-publish digitally on Windows, Mac and Linux.

Any and all feedback is appreciated.

Cool poster!

P.S. yes, I am no longer at Seed Studios.

Wow, has Toma abandoned us? Without his guidance, Wayback Wednesday was forgotten. lol

Is EU4 really that addictive? Anyway, seems like I'm the top poster here now, time to stage a coup

That idea came up during a discussion on feedback in this thread and its an awesome idea that hopefully gets picked up by you guys. A problem even this thread seems to show, is that people still likely avoid the very unknown titles that might not have all that great looking production values. The idea someone came up with was dedicating a day to playing any of the games from the past threads that you havent played yet and post your impressions about it, be it good or bad. That way we wont forget the games from the past threads completely and it allows us to check on some other games :)

Here are the past thread links:
I recommend checking for the games in the OP rankings of the april, may, june and july threads and checking out a game high up on the ranking that you didnt get to yet, since its likely that those are among the better ones anyway.

Satirical text adventure, reminds me of typography videos. That polish helps it along, while other text adventures would have me bored after 10 min. There's not much to it, was made in 8 days, and using the spacebar to change directions is imprecise. Great music, though.

This game is awesome. Even though I suck at landing the shuttle, it was jaw-dropping doing seamless transitions from space exploring to landing on planets. Playing as alien space explorers with their own mythology is interesting. Nice to have a game purely dedicated to space exploring rather than all the strategy stuff that turns me off to those games.

It's a simple block puzzle game, but the abstract world is the star here. Once you get to the jaw-dropping city with multi-eyed trees that really just want to ram you into the wall, you know this game has something special going for it. Also, I love games where you can get to a really large height and then fall all the way down (Mirror's Edge) instead of a game-over screen in the middle.

Challenging side-scrolling action platformer with an art style that reminds me of Out of This World for some reason. The story is a more desperate and hopeless alien invasion. A rare good female protagonist in this kind of game is refreshing. It's fun kicking things and learning different weapons. The checkpoints are a bit too spaced out and they're one-use only. Excellent rock soundtrack!

Missed your gifs. It reminds me I have to check few games before end of this month, especially Outer Wilds, which sounds really intriguing.

Has anyone here played Ring Runner? It looked pretty good from the trailers and RPS impressions and I'm trading for it on Reddit. I'll post impressions later, but was curious whether it lived up to the promises set in those trailers and its Kickstarter

A bit late but amazing stuff, looking forward for it.

Anyone try Electronic Super Joy yet?

Yeah, got it the day it came out because I'm a fan of some of the developer's other games. It's a standard 2D platformer with a high difficulty. Kind of wish I would have waited for it to be on sale but on the other hand it was only $5. Not a bad game at all, just average.

Going to put this here for a bit :)

Since I started a youtube channel who does Indie Impressions daily, I started to notice how many great games were out there that hardly got any marketing or just couldn't be found because of all the big games that craved for attention. As a small youtuber I couldn't do much, but somehow I want to change this and I am about to expand to a full fledged website called www.Indiespotted.com

This website will be devoted towards the indie games. At the start it will mainly be computer and Ouya based indies, yet I will be expanding in due time. With my website I wish to support all of you to get the word about your game out there. Weither you are a new developer company or you are all alone in your project. Each and everyone of you work hard and deserve to be known.

How will my website help all of you? My video impressions will be on the website, together with articles that you may provide me about your game. I will also do specials towards interesting looking concepts, crowdfunding campaigns and I will give developers to put their crowdfunding campaign on the website either by article or the actual Kickstarter/IndieGoGo widget.

I will be sharing more information soon, as of now feel free to follow me @Indiespotted, where I will update anything regarding the website.

If you guys think this concept is interesting, feel free to share your ideas with me. Or if you couldn't care less, feel free to ignore this or just tell me that it is not suitable here and I will remain quiet then :)

Whoa, that is beautiful. I'll definitely check it out.

I'm actually interested in seeing some feedback of exclusive Ouya games. But it all sounds like a good idea, I'll definitely check it out every now and then.

This game looks promising.

AdventurOS

Explore a unique RPG/metroidvania adventure based on the content of your computer.

AdventureOS is an 2.5D RPG/Metroidvania adventure based game that is entirely auto-generated by the content (folders and files) of your computer. Each room, object, enemy, puzzle, key, treasure, boss... Is actually an interpretation of the files you can find on the computer where the game is running, making each adventure as exciting as exclusive for each user.

Let me show you through these halls, my friend, where treasures of indie gaming await...
Voting!

RULES THIS MONTH IN SHORT: Up to 10 games, at least 4.

Why?
Because we want to offer people who first step into the thread an easy go-to list for great games. Plus it gives more attention to the titles that really deserve it.

How?
Everyone votes on his top 10 games out of the ones that already have been released AND are mentioned in the OP (So everything in Post 2). I'll tally the results and put the best 5 in the next thread. A minimum voting count of 4 is required. Feel free to vote for games that you deem "important" or the ones that you enjoyed the most. Since this is a rather communicative thread, feel free to include a short description why these games ended up on your list or a "honorable" mention if you feel that one game deserves another mention even though it wont count for your list. That way it would also make it interesting to read which games we should check out that others might have enjoyed. You dont need to "rank" the 10 games. Every list entry gets 1 point for the overall ranking.

When?
This thread is still open until the end of the month, so you can drop your list in here whenever you want. You can also change your list up to the last day. I wont start the count before the last day of the month, so everyone has still time to revise their lists and play some games. Speaking of which, if you dont even KNOW 7 games to vote for, there are plenty free games in the OP to check out. Most of which are rather short too. Use the remaining week to catch up with 1 or 2 titles you didnt get around to yet!

Which?
Since the list got rather long, here is the complete list of games to vote for for this month:

1000 Amps
Aaron Steed's Ending
Against the Wall
Bokida
Chester
Contre Jour
Crayon Chronicles
Crypt Run
Cube World
Dead Pixels
Desperate Gods
Dungeonmans

Fran Bow
Frequency Domain

Shadowrun Returns
Smooth Operator: Call Center Chaos
StarMade
Strata
Tessalation
Timesquid
T.O.M.B.
Untitled
Valdis Story: Abyssal City
Viscera Cleanup Detail

Had a think, and I remember last month it was a wide problem that some users just didn’t quite have enough time to run through many of the games on the OP. So to (hopefully) help I’ve made this list of the OP games categorised in ‘impact levels’ being the amount of time I would consider that they may take to play. Of course many of them can be played for longer (if you enjoy them), this is more of a rating of how long it takes the player to see and learn all the tricks in play rather than master and fully complete the experience. All the games listed are free.

My votes:
  • 1000 Amps: simplistic graphics, but varied game mechanics which you discover on your own. A cool puzzle-platformer with lots of exploration. What I dislike though: the screen becomes totally white when you collect things.
  • Contre Jour
  • Gateways: once again, a game in which you are free to explore the rooms and solve the puzzles at your own pace. Lots of simple and smart mechanics, yet a bit too difficult to be mainstream.
  • Ittle Dew: the game looks bland at first, why would I play another tribute to Zelda? Well, the animations are really cute, the game is overall simple but enjoyable, with landscapes and protagonists which are very easy to recognize. Great artworks.

My honorable mentions:
  • Against the Wall: an interesting take at the progression in a game: you have to climb a tower. The game is tedious tough.
  • Chester: the concept is nice, but I dislike the controls and the art direction: it feels messy.

My votes:
1. Outer Wilds
This game was excellent. I enjoyed it so much that I endured annoying lag and poor performance just to experience. It's incredibly atmospheric and really makes you feel like a explorer loose in the final frontier.

2. MTB Freeride
Got tons of laughs from this game. I never reached the bottom but every attempt was fun and the sense of speed is exhilarating. And first person crashes never get old

3. Tessellation
A colorful challenging puzzle platformer. I enjoyed this one a lot.

4. Ending
The graphics are simple but the game is not. Every move must be calculated and considered. And there's quite a bit of content between the puzzle mode, adventure mode, and level editor

Honorable Mentions:
Against The Wall
The art style is great and the sense of exploration and discovery is wonderful. Plus the block based platforming can get tricky,

ISIS
It may be short but ISIS packs a punch. The premise is pretty cool and the writing earns major kudos for getting you into a certain mindset while going through your short playthrough

My Ten

Against the Wall
Experiment12
Humans Must Answer
Isis
Ittle Dew
MTB Freeride
Outer Wilds
Shadowrun Returns
Tessalation

Nice looking Point & Click game I found today.

Harold Halibut is a stop motion point&click adventure set in an underwater world full of amusing characters, strange creatures and fantastical locations.

Everything is hand-crafted from wood, clay and anything we can get our hands on, really.

The Real Abed

Perma-Junior
Looks pretty neat. I remember there was a SHMUP that did the same thing. Except that it deleted the files you destroy.

As long as this one doesn't do that, I'd love to try it. Especially if there's a Mac version since all my files aren't really on my Windows machine.

I'm unable to watch the video right now so I wonder how it decides what files become what kind of things. What becomes a boss? EXE files?

Do not forget Shelter next week.
Well...fuck...so many good choices and I don't want to spend all that $$ at once

I'm kind of leaning towards Ghost Song, because not only does it look awesome, but it's made by a GAFfer. Would be first KS backing

Most bang for my buck would be Legend of Dungeon and Shelter/Electronic Super Joy

SYABH just looks awesome but is the most expensive. Betrayer would probably by my final choice.

But they're all good choices

It looks promising indeed.

So I narrowed my choices down to Sir You Are Being Hunted, Legend of Dungeon, or some other unexpected release or Early Access game.

I realized my specs can't run Betrayer, I can wait for Shelter, and I'll wait for games like Electronic Super Joy to go on sale.

Any impressions of Legend of Dungeon?
