did they announce 2.0 like this? early, before the announcement of the 3G iphone and then release it with the 3G?

Presto, update, no charge.

Aren't there apps for that? I've seen them around on the app store, but never tried them myself.shuri said:Those updates arent really worth it.. also; fuck you at the fuck that i wont STILL be unable to use my ipod touch as a usb disk.
I propose a truce. Please accept these two alternative avatars as a treaty:AndersTheSwede said:I dislike your defense of a charge because of accounting rules like I dislike how your avatar never solves! Perpetual chaos.

Anyway, I bought a 3G back in December. What's the over/under on me being upgrade eligible when the new one hits?

From the Pre-install advisory. Is it worth upgrading on my personal phone?

Afraid not on that first part. It'll only let you download 2.21 for now. I suspect this will change when it's final.StrikerObi said:I set up a Student ADC account back when I was in college a few years ago. I mean, you really need a wallpaper when you're flicking through screens of icons? Why? The homescreen is for your wallpaper.
Its like asking why you cant use a frikkin wallpaper on your start menu, or as folder backgrounds. Its ridiculous. The iPhone icon screens ARENT equivalent to a desktop. This is one of the control decisions by Apple that I agree with. Making it harder for people to uglify and reduce the useability of their phones. I understand how some have an obsessive compulsive disorder to customize every facet of every interface. But theres very solid, logical reasons as to why some elements shouldnt have that option.

MySpace let people use black text on a black background and we all know how that turned out. Sometimes it's worth limiting options to protect users from their own stupidity.DoctorWho said:I've never understood the whole "I'd rather they not give people the option to choose wallpaper because I don't like the way it looks" argument. The choice should be there. Tons of other phones have it.

Tobor said:And tons of other phones are shit. Apple should redesign a beautiful working interface to accommodate people who want to make it look like Windows Mobile? There's a reason you can't do it, it breaks the interface.
Apple went with large icons that fill the screen to present the user with a clean usable interface. You can't add background wallpaper without having to alter that design choice, and they don't want to do it. It will cause other problems. Suck it up and jailbreak, you can make your screen look as crappy as you want.

Exactly.

AndersTheSwede said:Sorry but this is complete bullshit. I love my iPod Touch, but having to jailbreak to change the background is pretty ridiculous.
I have a background and it does nothing to the "clean usable interface".
It no more changes how the iphone operates than changing the desktop wallpaper on your computer. Its basic functionality that should be included in every computer device.
Now since I feel this way I just jailbreak every time, but this is pretty basic stuff and I simply cannot understand any, any argument for its exclusion.
That said, it is still the best piece of consumer electronics ever.
