The first one had a bunch of flaws that could have easily been fixed, plus the story perfectly sets up for a sequel. So how did it not need a sequel?

Nif said:Wow, a lot of doom and gloom about it. It's too bad, the latest ComicCon video I saw was really good. No photography or Frank West is a bummer, but I have a good feeling about it.

I had no idea Dead Rising 2 was 60fps. As for the less zombies complaint, you know DR1's zombie count increased as the storyline progressed.
This post made me think of this.epmode said:I miss Frank. And erotic zombie photos.
It's easy if you level up from the beginning. I had absolutely no idea what was going on and fought the psychopaths immediately and it was near impossible.Himuro said:Why do people consider DR to be so hard? The game is easy as fuck.
The infinite mode where the psychopaths are regular enemies however, that's a slight challenge and I wish I could go through it but I can't because I don't have a 360 anymore.
I didn't disagree with you in any way. I'm just saying that the game didn't really promote leveling up that much and some people might be have been confused cause of that.Himuro said:This does not make it hard.
DR is a game where you cannot possibly do everything in one playthrough. You learn this early on due to the clock, the fact that you can't really help people as weak as you, and the fact that non-story related psychopaths are all tough at that point. You give up on certain things because you just can't manage to do them. If you're ocd, and want to do everything, you will have problems. But if you admit defeat and realize you can't do everything the game has to offer the first time you play within an maybe an hour, there's no struggle at all.
I didn't really "grind" for points. I just too pics of zombies whenever I massacred them.
But none of this makes DR truly hard, or sport "old school difficulty".
Game isn't hard nor truly easy. It has a learning curve, and learning curves do not necessarily mean shit hard, they mean you have to practice.
For everyone I take it? It wasn't a problem for me since I didn't expect any horror in the game, but if someone did expect it I can see why that would be a major problem with enjoying it and therefore being interested in a sequel. Perhaps they should have known that going in, but it does answer why someone may be ignoring the sequel.Himuro said:That's...that's the whole point. Not all horror is serious.
kodt said:The reason I didn't like the first one:
1. unrealistic goofy setting at times ruined any scary/horror factor
2. save system / leveling system / timed missions was annoying
3. the zombies were not difficult and you were not scared of them, you could just mow them down or often run through/past groups of them.
This game was the reason I bought a 360, I don't regret buying the 360 but the game was not what I expected. I thought it was going to be an open world zombie survival game set in a mall. I thought I would be able to explore the mall, get supplies, rescue others to join my team, create barricades, clear out sections of the mall and secure them, and basically play as long as I wanted with the eventual possibility of securing the entire mall from zombies even if it took 100 hours of game-play. The timed thing is really what killed it for me.

i always recommend people get ending B first, not worry about the case files, learn what random events happen when, get the lay of the land and get levelled up a ways. then when you try the case files you have a good idea of what else to make time for, and you have a strong enough Frank that they won't be overly challenging.schennmu said:Spot on description. DR has a learning curve that is maybe comparable to Demon's Souls. Once you understand how the game works it's just pure fun.
Now for that you would have to ask Kodt. My main point is just not everyone has to like stupid silly horror (I don't myself). As for standard horror being in the game, Kodt seems to say as much just the silly parts ruined it.Himuro said:But...the game clearly advertises doing crazy shit + zombies. How is it possible? Plus, the game still has standard horror.

This site is the weekly blog of four people who will most likely wind up as survivors in the game. They are planning a trip to Fortune City for this year's TiR. They've even started to talk about Chuck Greene. If you read carefully there are references to a reporter from Willamette on the site as well.
