Is it possible the PS2 is the worst PlayStation console?

Yh but that's to do with the network powering the console not the device itself. If PS2 was still online and powered by the network it would have likely been also affected.

I never owned a PS1 or PS2 and sold the PS3 I had after about six months. By that measure you would think the PS3 was best, but by playing other friends consoles, I liked the PS2 best probably.

It's not much of a point if you have to exclude all the consoles worse than it from the discussion. PS2 also beats the fuck out of the PS3 and PS4. OP can give the PS4 a pass if he wants but after two years, the best thing that can happen to the PS4 would be enabling PS2 support, yet they even fucked that up.
It's the best, but wasn't my favorite. It's library was unmatched, but I found the PS1 to be more magical with 3D being a wild frontier opening new genres and IPs, along with the best batch of RPGs IMO. I bought my PS1 during launch week and it was a great choice (originally went to the store to get a Saturn).

I don't know man, the PS2 had perhaps the best library ever as in quality, quantity, and diversity. It was also useful at the time as a DVD player. It was a pretty fantastic console for its time. It's probably my favorite console ever followed by the SNES and PS1. PS console wise so far for me in retrospective, PS2 > PS1 = PS4 > PS3.
That year was kinda crazy, there were a ton of games I wanted to buy on the PS2 like Klonoa 2/Rayman/Onimusha. Just too much.

Strongly disagree, PS2 had one of the best console libraries ever. It had a huge variety of great games.

1,2 and 3 are equal for me. So I can't even say which one is the worst :/As far as western developed games go there may be a point there, but it was even worse on PS1 to me and Japanese games have been great across both PS1 and PS2. If it's worst it will be worst amongst many greats, like how Bloodborne could arguably be the worst of Miyazakis own Souls-style games.
That Witcher 3 is a bad game. I think that one was there too.
To me, the PlayStation 2 is still the greatest, but PS4 could have a chance at coming near it.

They have never bettered the ps1 in my opinion. With PS2, I thought it was alright but I enjoyed my gaming time a lot more on GameCube, Xbox & Dreamcast and with PS3, a few games apart, gaming time was Xbox 360.

Sega and Nintendo at that time had better marketing (Sega arcades, Nintendo long time classics), making their games appealing even to people who did not own a PS2. While PS2 games catered mainly to PS2 owners.
In another thread I made, some people had not even heard of MGS1!
When Sega and Nintendo finally realized the tastes and trends had changed, the turf was open for Sony to take.

It's a big exclusive, but is just an iteration in the Souls series that doesn't really break any new grounds. I suppose that is harder and harder to do as the industry matures, but Sony's exclusives have been apart of some of the most critically acclaimed games of all time. Bloodborne hasn't won many (any?) major awards this year.
you can certainly like the PS1 more but you're wrong by every metric

I think most playstation consoles gave me enough for my money worths, only one that i cannot say it will keep the pace so far is the PS4.

Sure after that, there were good title, but not as quality of ps1, for my taste. I kimd of enjoy a bit more xbox that ps2 at the time. Xbox sold me for an amazing hockey ( espn hockey 2k5), Morrowind, Burnout 3 takedown which was looking great on xbox, Riddick, Kotor, Rallisport Challenge, PGR,and a few other. I can say i was more an xbox fan than a ps2 fan at the time.

The hell, man? It was by far one of the best by virtue of being an extreme front runner in its generation.
Honestly, the game selection of the PS2 is IMO a good argument why console manufacture competition ISN'T good. By putting everything all in one place, fanbases don't get fragmented, better assuring the health of particular series.

Funny how you phrased it to fit your definition but regardless of what you say it is still a major exclusive. You could Halo is a major exclusive but it is still a derivative of shooters in general.

I think the vast majority of PS3 exclusives were boring, so I would say that the PS3 is definitely the worst PS console.
No it's not. The only reason PS2 was as good as it was was because it had competition. The beginning of the PS3 is the result of a single company dominating an industry.

As far as the worst Playstation console goes, it's easily the PS1 for me. It had a lot of games, but not too many that were actually great. Nothing that could hang with the best stuff on the N64 at least. It was a very style-over-substance platform in an era obsessed with multimedia.
Whereas PS2 should be in the running for best console, not just Playstation, but overall.
To put it in perspective, the Xbox and GameCube both launched that November and each set certain launch sales records at the time. And IIRC the PS2 sold over twice as many consoles that holiday than both of those did combined. I've never seen anything like it. So many huge, great games in such a short window.

You left out Metal Gear Solid 2 as well. Maybe a few others. Sony's fall 2001 lineup is easily the strongest in history.

Its a matter of taste. Infamous, Little Big planet, Heavy Rain, God of War, MGS IV, Last of Us, Killzone, Resistance, Uncharted, Ratchet, Gran Tursimo , Demons Souls were more interesting in the time than just Halo, Gears of War , Forza, and Fable. I was an xbox fan on their first generation, but the second one made me switch quick( on also with two red ring of death in one year and free online gaming)
Let's keep waiting then because the day is far from over... frankly I'm betting a crazy thread about Tomb Raider.
I would argue that non of the PlayStation home consoles are bad, it's just that some are better than others. Software libraries are debatable, but when you consider the features, and the time that they were relevant, no one can say that they were bad. Even the PS3, despite a shitty start ended up being a killer console.
