Is Mighty No. 9 delayed again?

I've seen this happen to Kickstarters before.

Step 1. Delay the game
Step 2. Months of silence
Step 3. Break down and admit that the game is going through serious issues, lost a lot of creative talent, and the funds have run dry
Step 4. Ask for more money

Christ I already forgot that game was coming out.

This is like the the second or third time it just left my mind too.

As for the release, wait another month or two before we start calling out the hack.

And hopefully the delays meant better visuals than an XBLA game.

I bet Kamiya's pissed off he ever said that with how much people misinterpret it.

Seriously, if the game doesn't come out before Summer, I think they're fucked. No one cares anymore aside from the backers, and they've lost 99% of the hype they had like three years ago.

Also, I got a kick out of this.

I'm a backer, I couldn't care less anymore and wish I could get my money back at this point. Basically every other thing I have backed on Kickstarter has come to fruition except this thing, and it was the FIRST thing I ever backed on Kickstarter.

The worst part about this is the multiplayer component is why it's being delayed. A multiplayer component, to a fucking Megaman spiritual successor lol. Fuck Inafune.

Jesus. Konami, Square, polyphony, and even Nintendo have massively delayed games that turned out to be good. Calm down.

I'm just thinking that this is the case right now:
-They are waiting for the cartoon to be ready, then they will release the game
-Cartoon will drive game sales; reverse Sonic Boom (TV Show = Meh, Game = Good/Great vs. TV Show = Great, Game = Bad)
-Console versions release first (PS3, 360, PC, PS4, X1, Wii U)
-Handheld versions release latter (3DS & Vita)
-Movie Comes out this fall alongside new Kickstarter of sequel game
-Red Ash Information comes out by E3 and a demo is shown off

I personally feel indifferent to this whole deal now.

If Mighty No. 9 and Red Ash come out to be good game? Great :D!

If not? I still have the Classic Mega Man series and the PS1 Classics versions of Mega Man Legends 1, 2 and Trone Bone to play.

I bet you it releases during E3, since they've already sold every copy they're ever going to and this will help them avoid any potential negative press if the game is not quite what backers wanted...which seems likely.

Honestly I think there was more than network problems to begin with.

Yep, like deciding to make your Kickstarter game the face of your new studio by making it your own Mega Man, instead of making a good game :l.

Announcing a TV Show, movie, a second Kickstarter, getting a publisher.....all of these moves just scream "We want to make money, FU backers" and that is annoying :l.

I missed that whole thing. What was the original context behind this?
Someone pressed him on it and IIRC he elaborated that he wasn't intending to insult him but had respect for his skills at navigating the business side of development to help projects to come to fruition.

To all of the people saying that spring just started; we should still probably know the release date by now. It would be ridiculous if they announce a date and launch within such a short timeframe. This game still needs time to be marketed and distributed, so we should know if it's going gold really soon if they are going for a late spring 2016 release.

The game was delayed because the multiplayer wasn't working. No visual upgrades.

Of course but the visuals were horrible and the levels that people were able to turn up were uninspiring at best, color pallets obscuring enemies from the background at worst.

I always hoped that all these delays were to improve quality while excusing for the multiplayer mode.

And again hoped, this game is only going to further discredit Inafune if he releases it as is w/ multi after so long, especially with the gull to try to push a cartoon, spinoff, and second kickstarter before the game was out.

Unsung Story was "delayed" to "add more features" that nobody asked for, and then...

http://www.polygon.com/2016/2/8/109...-unsung-story-studio-tells-kickstarter-donors

"During the last few months we have had some development setbacks that are affecting our timeline and progress on the game, while also affecting what we need to do in the immediate future as a company," Playdek wrote.

Playdek says it must "focus on a few products in the near term that have the ability to get to a retail release before Unsung Story is able to," calling that necessary for "the ongoing financial health of the company."

I'm actually curious on how it's going to end for might number 9. I'm basically done with the game and hope it turns out well for those who stay for it but can't help thinking how much damage has been done by the constant delay.

I honestly doubt at this point that the delays were actually due to multiplayer issues.

Yup. They went and promised anything and everything in the hopes of getting more money through stretch goals and now it's backfiring. To have let all this ill will fester over tertiary online multiplayer options is crazy.

I honestly doubt at this point that the delays were actually due to multiplayer issues.

If it's just a smokescreen for another problem, it's probably the worst excuse imaginable short of saying they burned all the money on hookers and blow.

Before this thread I had completely forgotten this game's existence and I was excited for it once...

Same. I don't even care if it ever comes out now. My money is gone forever and I will never get any enjoyment out of it.

Inafune still has 2 months

but it was really dumb of him not to release the single-player component first to save face then patch in the online stuff

why did I back this

They have to make extra sure the online mode literally no one cares about is working

Then people can play the part of the game they care about

I think the likely ending for this game will be that the game launches in late May (ha......Mighty May/Mega May.....bad joke :l) with little fan-fare; its a solid game but not an amazing one.

Backers wash there hands with future Inafune Kickstarters for good (because he WILL have another one for Mighty No. 9 Two), the TV show launches with mixed results and the Movie will be ignored completely.

Inafune will be a joke to the gaming public and press, while Red Ash will be the game that turns things around for Inafune and Concept. The game looks solid and people are caught off guard with the game's E3 showing.

I have a distinct feeling that fans would have still complained. Best to delay and get it right. Now the message will be, was it worth the wait?

I missed that whole thing. What was the original context behind this?

He didn't intend it as a insult like everyone assumes. He just thinks Inafune is a very talented businessman but isn't as experienced as a game designer. People forget that Infaune didn't actually design Mega Man 1s gameplay, he just did character designs.

Considering good will is gone and the likelihood of a boost in numbers through non-backers sales are extremely low?

Probably not.

If the game is good? I think it might be worth the wait :). I mean, we never saw a single thing of the handheld versions and I think they will be the strongest versions to be honest. No Unreal Engine 3 = Likely more refined art style and level design elements.

Hopeful its good anyway :l.

I'm sure some will but I'd wager most wouldn't care. Look at something like Hyper Light Drifter or Shovel Knight. They're both missing stretch goal features, the former even saying it will never come. Not a 1:1 comparison since MN9 is working uphill at this point but I just can't see the scenario where having online multiplayer at launch will help this game.

My guess is that he prefers a game to be complete, with as few technical & gameplay hiccups, as possible?

Not sure why people post that in these situations. If that is the case, then he's a fucking terrible businessman because he can't get his product out on time. It would be a different story if the development process went smoothly but it resulted in a shitty game.

Nah, I have written off all the games I have supported on KS as losses (this and Project Phoenix) on my balance sheets. I have stopped waiting and stopped following updates. These will come when they come and that's that. Life is too short to waste it waiting!

If Shenmue 3 fails to deliver on time then no more crowdfunding games for me.

Every time I hear about this game, it makes me tremendously sad.
Pretty much. I remember being baited hard by that Kickstarter video riddled with Mega Man nostalgia and becoming so, so excited for this. Now I'm just cynical and bummed about the whole thing.

Y'know, the other day I actually gave a modicum of thought to this game. I thought, 'Wait, did it already come out?'. Then I thinked hard about it. And I assured myself that no, it had not snuck a release on me.

And, well, here we are.

The radio silence is more annoying to me than the possibility of a delay. Delays happen, I get that. But the way Comcept has handled announcing delays has been all kinds of awful.

So I'm betting that MN9 is delayed again, and they're too scared to admit it until it's obvious to everyone.

Now I just have to hope Igarashi pulls through for us, I guess.

Seriously glad I only backed enough for the game itself - can't imagine what the larger backers must be feeling.

I'm kinda baffled by how much its gotten delayed though. Even if its multiplayer stuff, I would have thought that the limited options a game like this even allows for multiplayer would have kept it simple.

I think they could at least supply more updates about what's going on. I mean, fine, if you need even more time, but at least just be open with what's happening.
spring only started a few days ago
ask again in three months?
If we're being pedantic, it actually started like two weeks ago. That seems like plenty of time to supply an update.
