Well one, the people answering this question, how would a normal person watching the news or seeing them in action in person be able to tell who is a mutant and who isn't? To me everyone is a filthy mutant.

If we were to think about living in the Marvel universe, the difference between a Spiderman/FF and X-Men is that both all five of the former are much more recognizable than the X-Men. There have been so many mutants in and out of the team how could you remember them all? Further, there are so many 'mutants' running around being dickheads and fucking shit up, how do i know they aren't part of the X-Men vigilante group? That's how I'd think of it.

Cosmic Spiderman punched the Hulk into Orbit. That's pretty assholish.
Eff being the last post on the page!

While looking up Cosmic Spiderman I found this.... never even knew that the Carnage symbiote merged with the Silver Surfer to create Carnage Cosmic.

Dark Phoenix Wolverine!
Anyone who hasn't read the series this pic comes from is missing out on a great story
AmZ35.jpg

That is Wolverine facing off against Dr. Doom, who has turned himself into a planet done by Adam Kubert in an awesome three-page spread. The series is called "Astonishing Spider-Man & Wolverine."

The Hulk is so strong that he can have all of reality thrown at him and still keep on coming...

But after one romp in the hay with an evil other-dimensional Godlike being, he is satisfied.

Typical convo in those threads is about what current books people picked up. Cool for them, and all, but not as interesting from the outside in. And definitely not as interesting as figuring out if the Hulk could kick Jubilee's ass.

Hulk vs. Jubilee would be something like this (with Jubilee being Bambi):

where are you lot in the monthly comics thread? :(

I'm not an active reader anymore...so i'd be at a loss.

But discussing stuff that I know/love (X-Men) up until the point I stopped ready(Morrison's run)? FUCK YEAH!!!

Hulk is what you call a "blank slate" character. He's literally can be as strong/powerful as any writer wants him to be or not to be as the story calls for it. Classic Jack Kirby Hulk made a character with ridiculous potential who if they wanted it could one-shot Superman or vice-versa.

I suspect that the Marvel U has an enthusiastic wikipedia crowd who would want to keep tabs on every person in a costume, whether out of devotion or fear. But even then, you're right: the heroes and villains aren't telling the whole world their origin stories, so how would you know who was born with powers and who acquired them by accident? There would be plenty of bigots who would want to make the distinction, though.

That's what made the original Mutant Registration Act so compelling. People want to know who is a mutant because they want to get those genes out of the pool. It goes back to the One-drop rule. The difference between a mutant and a superhero is that if your daughter gets pregnant by Iron Man, then you're just a boss. If she gets knocked up by Gambit...then your grandson is a freak and your daughter a whore. The same will apply generations from now. As long as one drop of mutie blood can be identified in their ancestry, they will all be freaks.

Okay, dammit thread stop making me want to get a marvel online subscription.

If I hypothetically did, what would you suggest I read?

Wolverine Phoenix looks interesting...

I remember reading through all the X-Men stuff with Liefield art. I am still dumbfounded as to how he became a comic book artist. I totally suck ass at drawing and I'm not that much worse than Rob Liefield. For god's sake, look at that last panel, wtf is that.

How many Marvel characters has She-Hulk hooked up with?
Hercules

Juggernaut (Though it was later retconned to be an alternate reality version of She-Hulk)

Spider-Man

And a slew of others like Iron Man, Star Fox, etc.

There's a free trial going on right now...just search in the OT for the code. Honestly though Marvel online reading is pretty disappointing...there should be a lot more than there is currently...and weird holes in some important arcs.
