No the production values are really high, but yeah gameplay is a toss-up. I'm pretty lukewarm about it. With that enourmous caveat, I like everything about Kid Icarus.

What about something more reputable, like a yearly Sight & Sound or Film Comment poll? There are plenty of critics and academics that vote in these polls that have a focus on only Asian cinema, or have not seen any Hollywood movies for the year. I think there's too big a focus in games that actually ISN'T there in other mediums (film and music) on dabbling in everything.

I would think it is always better to choose the one with the higher collection of reviews since it gives a much better idea. Eitherways I guess it does not make much of a diff.

I would say if not Journey give it to Okami HD just to boost the awareness for the game. This year has been terrible. If one has to give it to a AAA title maybe Dishonored.

It will very hard for me to find a GOTY this year as all of the big games I had anticipated disappointed me in some ways (Diablo 3, ME3, RE6). I do feel like some DL games stood out though. I'm simply not sure I would rate them as my GOTY. I enjoyed Journey and I still need to finish Dust.

Orcs Must Die 2 is my GOTY thus far. Over 50 hours played for a 15 dollar downloadable game and still going.

Torchlight 2, Mutant Mudds, Natural Selection 2, and Tribes Ascend are very good (and Dark Souls PTDE if it counts). It's a possibility Torchlight 2 will be my goty; it's a tossup between it and Kid Icarus. Yes for me it's true there are more downloadable titles than boxed titles I'd rather play this year.

sometimes I seriously cant believe how much more inspired original and lasting these smaller games are. Not that this is a new argument, but they seriously stay in my head for hell of a lot longer than most recent big releases I can think of.

I agree with this. Minecraft got GOTY awards. This year will bring nothing new in this area.

Yeah my post is wrong I made it all up.

* Chose best platform for each game, chose best episode for episodic games, excluded annualized sports games, excluded DLC packs, excluded ports of pre-2012 releases, included Xenoblade. I considered PC games to be "downloadable" or not arbitrarily.

I chose the best platform for each game because certain games are better on platforms other than Xbox 360, and if I picked the most-reviewed version all the time, I'd always pick the Xbox 360 version. It's fine if you don't agree with my logic, but I made it clear what I was doing.
