??IV 3D remake to DS

Wow, getting closer to an FF6 remake D:. I just hope it's on a platform like DS so we don't have to deal with loading.

Wish they'd remake Dragon Quest IV (or translate the Jap PSX one to English...)

It would cost too much money. A FFIV, V or VI port with Crisis Core graphics would cost much more and take much longer to do than Crisis Core itself.

The DS is the only way they can upgrade the graphics while retaining an old-school feeling (chibi characters, tiled world map, etc) and be able to boast that they have some of the best graphics on the platform at the same time. So deal with it.

Yeah, it's true.

Sad but true.....

My main beef is that there is a graphics plateau they can't get across until they start "cheating" and go for Prerendered backgrounds. With this they could properly represent the original amano designs.

Proper prerendered backgrounds would be hard to do until there are larger carts.

FF10 is a great game, aside from the extreme linearity and a lack of a world map.

First of all, FFX is not the worst one by any means.
Secondly, why would anyone want any remake over a new game? I'm always surprised how worked up GAF gets about these. Yes, that includes the hypothetical FF7R. Though with that one, at least you could get excited about sweet graphical goodness.
 
Why do we need this? we already have FFIV advance, no need to see it defiled with crappy 3Ds... damn you Square, make a new game for the DS...

Their 3D on the DS is improving a lot, actually. Dragon Quest IX is a good example.

No Chrono Trigger in DS 3D.

If there is a version of Chrono Trigger it should be a 2D remake on the DS, or a 2.5D remake on the PSP.
 
There is a whole world of un-rereleased Square/Enix games and they chose to bring this one out again? How about a 2d, 1-4 collection of DQ?
 
Hmm, FFIV is the only one I don't have some version of yet. I hope they DON'T do CT or FFVI remakes for the DS. Those games deserve much, much, much better hardware.

As I said, 2D remake or bust on the DS or 2.5D on the PSP.

That is the only "proper" remake for Chrono Trigger.

Do a Chrono Cross on the next gen consoles while you are at it.
 
why is Square-Enix so afraid to try new things??!!?? :(

back in the day they had a ton of good IP's. i predict, pretty soon they'll change their name from "Square-Enix" to "+Final-Fantasy"

Square is not afraid of new things. They always try them, and in their premier series no less. Enix on the other hand has to be, because their DQ fanbase is as well :P

That is because they fired the Xenogears team and forced them to release it early, they would eventually create Monolithsoft to be bought by Nintendo. The Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross teams are all over the place. Vagrant Story and Parasite Eve sold like crap.
 
i'm not sure i see the point of remaking old rpgs in 3d -- crude 3d, no less. if i wanted to play ff4, i'd rather just play ff4. but i guess it's a necessary component of squenix's drive to produce more final fantasy games than anyone can really keep track of.

Unfortunately, I think even using pre-rendered BGs for the 16-bit remakes would be considered "costing more than needed" for Square, since they'd require all towns and dungeons to be re-made with much higher quality.

But I think they'd fit a 1Gbit cart using proper compression. The PSOne games used almost no compression whatsoever for BGs and textures and the FMVs were encoded with insanely wasteful bitrates due to the primitive MJPEG codec.

No seriously, the Square now is not like how they used to be. Even if Wonderful World turns out to be a AAA game.

Yes, but then we have to consider that making these backgrounds doesn't require super high resolution 2D backgrounds because it is on the Tiny DS screen. On top of that they still have to use full 3D for the battle sequences.

Why can't people be happy with a possible remake of FF7 on the PSP?

At least it would be on a platform that isn't selling like the PS3.

But im not sure about the 3D-engine. FFIII needed it but for IV ijust can`t decide over the original and the 3D-version. FFVI in my opinion would be downgraded with the FFIII-engine.

But that`s just me.
 
I've been thinking about it, and I can understand why Square-Enix is doing this.

The truth is, the 16-bit era is ancient now. Many younger gamers started off on the Playstation and PS2, they've never really seen anything "other" than 3D games (accept for things on GBA, maybe).

Maybe they're trying to push the classic Final Fantasy games to a newer generation?

Actually no. Vagrant Story pulled around 250k which was average for RPGs in the US at the time, while Parasite Eve was a huge seller at something like 700k units.

I meant any Chrono Trigger goodness on any machine, not necessarily a 3D remake on DS. I'd love it on a better hardware too :)

Man what a waste of effort. IF you're gonna remake a game, do it so it's brought to modern standards. That's kinda the point of remakes, right?
 
Am I the only one who is looking forward to what this means for the Soundtrack? Hearing the entire soundtrack get past MIDI would be fantastic.

And for all those crying about "not another remake", its easy money for square. DS 3D models dont take a bagillion hours of texture work and 3D modeling, nor do they have to pay somebody to think of anything new. A "zomg next-gen" port of one of these games would cost alot more. Its easy and almost guaranteed cash.

If all square made were things like FF13, they would be out of buisness. I seriously doubt FF13 is going to pay for itself.
 
Dammit, because of this news, I can't get the thought of FFV (and FFVI) DS out of my head. Oh...SquareEnix, stop tormenting me so.
 
If I had a DS I'd be looking forward to this. FFVI was my first RPG ever. I loved every friggin minute of it and would like to see it redone.
