They said they would release digital numbers. But I guess we don't know when that will be. Hopefully when the official famitsu/MC numbers are released.

Good launch for the XL, but for me a disappointing Mario opening. I guess I was too optimistic expecting Pokemon numbers with download that badly pushed by Nintendo.

I'm inclined to believe that the digital download numbers aren't available yet mainly because it seems to be doing on track of what previous NSMB titles have done over the same period without digital downloads. Of course, I'm not expecting Pokemon Black and White numbers, but perhaps a significant amount compared to the 430k already sold at retail.

Factors that may explain NSMB2 performance -good but below many people's expectations-:
-two days instead of four
-digital copies
-a really, really strong main Mario on the same console, released in November and still present in the chart
-brand fatigue (I mean, the NEW formula)
-a lot of releases in the last few months

Two copies sold? That's not a bomb guys, stop trolling!!!
Agree.

In two days it has sold what the PSVita did over the last...three months.

Effectively

Three months: From Week 17 to Week 29 (Media Create)

Week 17

| PSV | 12.299 | 8.206 | | 240.190 | | 680.176 |

Week 29

| PSV | 11.932 | 13.427 | | 403.870 | | 843.856 |

843.856 - 680.176 = 163.680

Hasn't it sold around the same as the previous NSMB titles did in the same amount of time?

[NDS] New Super Mario Bros. - First day sales (480,000) - First week (865,024).

[Wii] New Super Mario Bros. Wii - First day sales (420,000) - First week (936,734).

First week = 4 days.

Well 39% of the current Vita LTD were sold in the first two days.

The hardware number is really great, on the contrary the software sales of New Super Mario Bros. 2 are simply decent.

Well, they seem in line with the prevous entries. Half the time (2 days VS 4 days) half the copies (430 VS 865/930k - with the Wii one higher also because of the Christmas launch)

It's still more than New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

Nope, New Mario Wii had the best debut of them all with more than 930K.
BUt it was "4 days" and during Holiday season.

It's four months in the Famitsu tracker, since March 26th.

How come?
Wii sold 420k during the first day; 2 sold 431k during the first two days. Are you assuming the latter sold more than 420k during the first day, and almost nothing the second day? It's not that I'm saying NSMB2 performance is disappointing, just a bit lower than what expected but still great.

I was under the assumption that "day one" and "two days" were essentially the same thing (July 28 to July 29, one day difference). My bad.

We know that the 3DS hardware will become profitable for Nintendo in a month or two but does that include XL as well?

3DS as of now should already be profitable (Nintendo announced so recently).

3DS XL is very very likely to have better margin than 3DS from the start.

are those DL cards cheaper than retail? i can't imagine going in to the store and buy a card when i just could buy the game in a nice box.

Damn, Sony selling Vita @ $250, and is still selling at a loss--for three years, no less.

I believe each PSVita unit is sold at cost (or slight profit), but the entire ecosystem will not be profitable for three years. I'll try and find the article clarifying this.

Nice. How do these 3DS XL numbers compare to the launch of the original 3DS, out of interest?

For Media-Create (so mixed trackers) 3DS sold in the first two days: 374.764

They said in the recent meeting that 3ds is profitable starting from July 25th (the day of the meeting) and that 3DS XL will not be sold at a loss.
So, both hws should be profitable from now on.

at last, for christ's sake
blimey, Nintendo really stormed Japan. Phase 1 completed

I'm not disappointed in NSMB2' numbers. Three things: only two days, digital release and it will chart until 2015

now, for the rest of the world...that's a big enigma. I really don't have a clue if it will push hardware sales

Welll, Nintnedo wanted this to be a 're-launch' and I guess thats whats happened so far. Rather impressive numbers, lets hope it traslates across the Pacific.
