But Utah also has high family formation rates. So religion is a promoter of family formation.

So I assume the shitty work culture is that Japan has crazy work hours. In the past, it'd be just men working while women stay at home to raise kids, but now the new generation women are working as well leaving no time to raise kids and Japan higher ups haven't adjusted to it yet? That's just my guess.

People's being virgins isn't the issue. It's that the county has the oldest population, a shrinking population, and since there are so many virgins, nothing on the horizon is stopping those trends. How could you possibly be that blind?

Well it's deeper than this, though.
Japan is still a nation state and we're still organized as nation states primarily. Their economy, social welfare programs, infrastructure all depend on replacement level population to support. They are way below that. Most Western countries are.
However, unlike other countries, Japan has always had a very strict immigration policy. This is what is hurting them.
The immigration policy comes from very real nationalistic sentiment to preserve the Japanese way of life and culture. You would be naive not to understand this is the reason they've been so reluctant on immigration.
So it's not an underpopulation problem, it's a Japan remaining a viable economy problem.

Everybody says we need to do something about overpopulation, but the second Japan actually goes ahead and does it everybody freaks out.
The only thing that's gonna get that birthing rate up is a radical change of the Japanese lifestyle, seriously I don't know how they expect anyone to maintain a relationship or have kids with such an overwhelming work culture, even High school/college kids would probably be too busy studying and working to fuck each other.

Again the overpopulation problem is poor science and doesn't explain the economic realties at play when an entire first world nation is not replacing it's population adequately, both through native childbirth and immigration--which are very low for an industrialized first world economy.

But you were arguing about overpopulation ,where you indicate in this post that's not a problem in Japan. And this thread is about the endemic levels of virginity in the growing subset of the Japanese population. Being a virgin and not having sex are two different things. And it's not like other countries aren't faced with the same socio-economic realities, they still manage to have sex.

Good points, I have 2 questions.
Is alcohol as liberally consumed in Japan as it is in Europe and North America? I know they're incredibly strict with their drug laws, I just don't know how liberally they drink.
Is there any concerted effort by the government to push marriage and procreation?

They can improve their productivity to offset the lack of births. Their population is half what it is now in 2050. That should not be a problem if they can make sure an average Japanese person produces twice (?) the value as today. They have to innovate rapidly to do that but it's possible in theory.

I don't know where people get the idea that the world faces an overpopulation problem. The real problem is that we aren't utilizing the most healthiest practices to accommodate the growing population. If the world switched to green governmental policies and technologies whole-heartedly (and It's not a pipe dream, plenty of places have done it already), there would be no reason to scream murder about scarce resources.
