We had the same issues with the Panda; once they discovered anime things were never the same.

We encourage pandas to have sex by showing them Panda porn. Maybe they could start making some people porn for the folks in Japan to encourage them to fuck.

They can improve their productivity to offset the lack of births. Their population is half what it is now in 2050. That should not be a problem if they can make sure an average Japanese person produces twice (?) the value as today. They have to innovate rapidly to do that but it's possible in theory.

That's just one factor.

What about their social welfare services and taxation? Less people means less tax revenue, means less funding of social welfare programs, means less government investment, means less tax fund available for public infrastructure and maintenance. All that requires money. And governments get money via taxation and financial commerce. Less people means less taxable income, less consumption, less financial transactions to tax, etc.

See what I mean?

This is why this is huge problem for Japan if they intend to remain a competitive economy.

And how would you increase individual productivity? Double the work hours? Considering the amount of offset about to be caused by automation, LOL.

Automation and thus innovation is wat is needed to improve productivity, so that 1 Japanese worker produces more in the same amount of hours. The solution to a decline in population is making every hour worked count more.

A lot of the services required is care for old people...

They sold more adult nappies than baby nappies recently.

1000 years from now in the ruins of Kyoto

Kid tourist: Daddy who built these cities
Dad: Well son, they were an ancient species of people called the "Japanese"
Kid: What were they like?
Dad: well son according to the holo-files in the great archive they were a great people who specialised in rolling dead fish up in rice and making cartoons filled the the brim with vague child pornography
kid: how did they die out?
Dad: well son right before North Korea started the great war 2.0, they basically decided as a country that they were bored of making people and stopped having sex
Son: What's sex?
Dad: ask your whore mother, when I drop you off at her place on Mars.

These things still need people, real people to maintain, setup, repair, etc.

Automation is a huge bogeyman. It's not this job stealer many people predict. Jobs will be shifted, but you will still need warm bodies to run these new operations and ancillary industries.

How is replacing a worker with a robot going to increase human productivity? Let's not even get into the mess of the lack of social support in Asian countries. Do you really expect everyone on the job market to become a 'robot specialist', or that their culture outreach will grow so far as to let the economy coast on it?

Automation is not a boogeyman. Do you really expect human society to fully shift to accommodate the change to automation in such a short period of time? Will people become robot specialists, or are the machines going to be simply replaced, or be sent to be serviced by other machines. There's a hierarchy to society, and people at the bottom will be first, and fastest displaced. Do you expect people how can't even reach middle income status right now to somehow magically make the leap? Think of it the way that manufacturing jobs were sent overseas, how did that change the realities of towns and cities dependent on that culture?

Ah I might used productivity in a wrong way. What I meant was making the economy less reliant on human labour and more on capital. So that you get more value per capita than now. TL;DR: Make the economy not need more humans.

if anyone wants to watch a documentary on it, there is the AlJazeera 101 East one

not sure if it works in the US though...

Question: What is with that picture you posted, TheRealTalker?

Answer: Oh you will see....

Then what happens to the people? Do you really expect the welfare network to suddenly grow to accommodate them?

Japan might actually be ahead of the curve when it comes to automation destroying the traditional economy. Less jobless people to look after.

There have been interesting posts about social mores being an issue (e.g.,it being rude to ask for favors). Does anyone else have insights into that? What's keeping them from hooking up more often?

I think about American culture and the stigma around being a virgin (which is toxic in many ways, but effective in motivating young people to get laid). Is that less of a thing over there? Is there a different, stronger taboo at work (like is being bad in bed worse than no sex at all)? What about puritanical religious beliefs?

Either they cripple and die on the streets or revolt and demand a higher taxation of revenue made by the corporations creating the revenue (so more welfare yea).

I'm not saying they should do this or do that but it is possible for them to stay on the current path and become some new kind of society that we've never really seen before irl.

This is why I find it difficult to buy this. There are tons of dating sites and apps, people cheat, there are fucking love hotels everywhere. Even prostitution exists...

Well, considering East Asia's history with social nets. sent to die would be apt. I don't know how anyone could watch this unfold calmly,

The virgin stigma exists in Asia as well. What do people get from saying as such?

it might come as a shock to you westerners, but in most Asian countries , people are usually virgins until they get married

those that aren't are the kids that watches too much american tv/movies

? I dont think it exists anywhere for men.

Erm, yes it does? I've spoken to plenty of recent immigrants, transfer and ESL students to know as much.

I don't even want to know how you got that 'factoid'.

If people don't think sex is a universal constant, then...
