Well good for him, but since he isn't putting out a ton of great movies for us to enjoy, why in the world do you care?

I don't :). is this over now or nah?

edit:
rewatched john wick 1 again. wasn't as great as I remember it. outside the action scenes I didn't care for it much. Think it peaked at the red circle and should of ended at the hideout.

hot take

John wick 2 is one of my favorite action movies of all time. up there with Raid 2, mad max, and my other favorite martial arts films. Like damn. I got instant Raid 2 vibes with common.

Went to this tonight, was happy to see the theatre mostly full. Movie was fantastic, my god, he killed so many bad guys, lol. I mean, the body count is ridiculous. I loved every minute of it.

Those reloads, good lord, the reloads!! Pure gun porn.

Just out of the cinema after seeing it and I was incredibly impressed. I'm not sure if I prefer it to the first movie (the pure ridiculous simplicity of the plot helps it greatly), but it's certainly a very worthy follow-up and is ridiculously fun. I really enjoyed how they continued the idea that John Wick is almost a supernatural entity/the embodiment of death and escalated it greatly true the setting, dialogue, and imagery throughout. The ending in particular was fantastic, it was a great set up to the sequel that cashed in very well on the subdued world building from the first, and the continued development it received in the second (which is definitely one of the most unique and strongest aspects of the franchise).

Saw it last night, fantastic film. The first 1/3 of the movie is a little slow, and had me worried, but once things get started it hits higher highs than the first in every way.

And can we just talk about how good the ending is?

What a excellent way to end the film and leave every fan begging for a third chapter.

Also, I was not expecting to ever enjoy a Keanu Reeves versus Common fight scene, but here we are...

Was thinking about the movie and that article from yesterday (or day before), and it really explained well what makes the action in these movies unique

John Wick is cool but he doesn't fight in way that is about looking cool. People complain that he always just headshots people or always throws them to the ground, but that's because those moves are really efficient and effective. He doesn't waste any time or moves more than necessary to take someone out. In some ways, it may feel repetitive, but it also has an air of realism because of course this skilled assassin will use the attacks that work the best

Whenever a game uses "middleware," I expect mediocrity. Just see how poor TLOU looks.
How many of you think this might be in your top 5 of 2017 once all is said and done?

With the movies yet to come, I didn't think it would be possible but John Wick 2 seriously impressed me and I've been thinking about it for days.

I am hoping to love:

Logan
Beauty and the Beast
The Fate Of The Furious
Spidermang Homecoming
Guardians Of The Galaxy 2
Aliens Again movie
Dundirk

So, no..?

I will prolly love JW2 more than Justice League and SW8. That much is clear.

Easily, without question

Looking at 2017's line-up, Logan, War for the Planet of the Apes, Blade Runner 2049. and Star Wars are the other movies I'm more positive/excited for, and unless some really cool indie/A24/foreign/etc. film really stands out, I can't see John Wick 2 not being my top 5

Doesn't read OPs, especially not his own
One thing I would have liked to know is if jw knew any of the assassins he killed when a hit was put on him, a lot of unique characters straight from a comic or manga and assassins for the most part in these movies all know each other and are even friends with each other and tend to hold nothing personal when it comes to business

Something I noticed in the movie is that Wick starts taking down someone down, kills someone else, then finishes off the person he was fighting first, even if that person was incapacitated and could no longer do him any harm. This is something I would not usually notice but it happened in 99% of the fights.

Yah thinking of blockbusters too much. Though this is a better year for them
I tend to learn about non-blockbusters soon before, or after, they release, so yeah, so don't really have any on my radar at the moment

Well, there's that action movie with Iko Uwais, Headshot,

I saw it and I thought it was great. Though I thought it referenced the first film too much - and the soundtrack didn't really stand out for me and felt like a recycled OST from the first.

I am pretty sure I would have considered the film to be excellent if it wasn't because of people constantly laughing at scenes which weren't really "lol" funny but rather "smirk" funny. I zoned out so many times because of them.

This just reminded me why I hate going on opening night after work hours.

Well this was fucking marvellous.

I feel that from an emotionally charged point of view it wasn't as good as the first film (I mean how can you compete with the puppy his dying wife left him being shot) but in terms of everything else - choreography, action scenes, gun use etc it was brilliant and what I expected from a sequel to the first film.  It really ups the ante on the tacti-cool (and efficient) action and Reeves should be commended for the amount of work he puts in, he's always believable and doesn't look like he's fumbling at all. You would not believe that fucker is 52 years old.

spoiler time!

So my favourite action scene was in Rome when he's trying to escape after the person he's supposed to kill commits suicide. I could see straight away where it was likely cut, when she's cutting up her wrists as I believe the BBFC really don't like that being shown in under 18 cert films.  Switching from pistol to rifle and shotgun was cool as fuck.  I loved how when he was using his machine gun he was only going semi automatic.  No needless burst fire, just one shot each time as needed.  Him using the shotgun was especially my favourite part of the film, reloading it whilst taking out fools with his pistol was class.  They do a good job mixing it up from hand to hand to various types of guns and always making it look cool and brutal.  There was one cool as fuck moment when Reeves checks his gun has a bullet in the chamber with the same hand holding his gun.

Then seeing when the contract goes out and he's just trying to make it to the hotel with assassins left and right trying to get him was great.  Special mention must go out to Common who I thought was pretty damn cool as the bodyguard who had a couple of excellent fights with Reeves.

I must also mention that I love how they expanded the world of the assassins and The Continental as well.  Expanding the world with things that make sense for example in the services that are provided to the assassins that stay there etc.  That was a really cool touch as well as some of the rules they had in place.

Ruby Rose was shit and her character died like the arsehole she was, acting all tough and then just getting totally smacked down.  Talk shit and get smacked.

Loved the ending and really looking forward to the third one now!

So yeah, go and see it if you're an action fan :)

Film was super fun! Loads of great moments and sequences. Seems quite pointless to compare it to the first, looks like they're trying to accomplish different stuff. I wonder where the sequel will take us.
Will we see John's new day to day life as a drifter who people take occasional pot shots at? Or will he go after the rest of the high table?

All these top 5 lists and no mention of "Kingsman: The Golden Circle?" I know its kind of a stacked year, but as far as action movies I could see it competing.

Not a viral post

Best kill of the film? Mine:
Pinning the guy with the shotgun and reloading it to shoot him

Mine was when
he killed two men with a fookin peencil. It was perfectly set up over the course of the two films.

I have to admit that both of the Hotline Miami gun throwing kills were badass, though.

Man, I really hope both Leitch and Stahleski take what they've learned from "Highlander" and "Deadpool 2" and really make John Wick 3 the greatest American action film made. This movie was phenomenal and I love how it expanded the lore to the smallest of details.

Also, bring Carrie-Ann Moss and Hugo Weaving into this world. Yes, it'll be stunt-casting but who gives a shit since Fishburne played his role with such camp and energy?

Also, minor grievance but, WHY DID YOU CARVE UP NEW YORK LIKE THAT, STAHLESKI?

How does he go from Chinatown to One World Trade to Lincoln Center to One World Trade again??? IT COULD HAVE BEEN PERFECT, AND YOU RUINED IT FOR ME, DAMN MY LOCAL KNOWLEDGE.

I just saw this and loved it. Can't wait for Chapter 3.

Only complaint I had was
literally everyone being an assassin and turning to look at them at the end. Was a little too ridiculous. I was fine with it seeming like everyone he was passing checking their phones being assassins because I could see some not being one and it's him just being paranoid.
Not that big a deal and other than that I loved all of the world building they did with this movie.

Does the universe of John Wick presuppose that the entire world is controlled by organized crime?

It doesn't seem like there is a regular society so much as a series of interconnected groups that openly feud with each other.

I mean...that may be one of the "in joke" things in the movie, but I think it's an interesting idea, having no law enforcement beyond the laws of the underworld.

Common was great but was anyone else giggling uncontrollably every time he tried to speak in Italian? why did they even do that, everyone he was talking with spoke English too.

Just saw the movie. Great movie, I like the story of the first one better I think. There are more twist and turn in the first one, particularly with William Dafoe character who I like a lot.

The sequel had so much action you got a bit numb at some point. Especially since Wick feels way too overpowered. The fight with goons got boring after a while. The assassin battle is really cool though.

Also, the Gianna assasination give me a huuge Hitman 47 vibe.this is how the Hitman movie should be. I hope they're taking notes.

All those people that Winston called to the fountain area (those who freeze for a couple of seconds)? I am assuming they were all assassins and hung around for a few minutes.

I'll spoiler my review

Good film. At a few points it felt a little ridiculous with waves of guys with guns running into the reach of a guy that is just mowing them down over and over again. Some nice new stunts, but a little too heavy on repeats of the first film. Not one random thug just ran away (seriously, where do they get so many hardcore minions?), and no police show up (aside from Jimmy, IRL they have pretty good response times in my experience, and there are usually some near areas like subways).

Random pedestrians were a little too oblivious. Silenced pistols or not, if I am three feet away from a wall with chunks blowing out of it, I am going to look. That scene was was nifty and a good idea, but not as well executed as it could have been.

Another rave/night club scene. Not only has this been overdone in other movies, they just did it in the first one.

I'd like to seem them branch out of the tunnels/hallways environments and see what they can come up with elsewhere.

All the car scenes were great.

Overall,
a good movie. As good as the first one perhaps, but not as good because it's a sequel.

That works kinda. I just feel like if I was a busy assassin I wouldn't want to show up just to play a spooky trick on Wick. Plus I assume they would've heard about what Wick did and expect a huge bounty for him. I would follow him for that whole hour, not go on my merry way somewhere else.

Just a minor complaint, want to see this movie again in theaters.

Maybe they're kind of a rotating security detail for Winston when he's out and about and stationary in places like that? Or maybe they were simply ordered to be a part of that little show?

Just watched the first John Wick, it was a really good film but man the fucking start was so god damn sad. Was hoping that he'd torture the guy who killed the dog a bit but I guess he psychologically tortured him seeing as he knew that John was coming for him.
