Journey Reviews Thread

Videogamer said:
And if Journey is mesmeric on your own, it's a revelation with a partner. That early reticence to engage will dissolve as you realise that these vast expanses are much easier to traverse with two. A jab of the circle button from either player sends out a noise that sparks the other's inner powers, and instead of trudging slowly across hilly dunes, you'll glide over them. Arduous ascents become spectacular flights, each leap seeing the pair of you carried upwards in a magical dance created by your own interactions. At times your humanoid avatars feel more avian, your communication a delicate, intricate courtship of otherworldly sounds and graceful, almost balletic movements. In an arena dominated by conflict, it's an astonishing achievement to imbue players with the desire to co-operate. And not just to co-operate, but to co-habit, to share this bizarre, beautiful experience. It's no real exaggeration to say that, at times, it feels like the first flutterings of romance. Here, it is you and this other person against the perils and hardships of the world: you pull together to get through the bad times, you dance and sing in unison with joy at the good. Alone, you feel lost, fragile; together, you're empowered. You may have experienced similar in the silent but unbreakable bond of friendship found in Ico. But never quite like this, never with another player.

This. Then I realized that the other one was probably (statistically speaking) a guy. Then I shrugged. Then I sang a few more chords at him.

My review in Swedish (since everyone else is pimping their stuff):

"If you didn't like Flower you won't like this either, but that makes you a bad, bad person."

"The last part is just as magnificent and uplifting as in Flower in its combination of images, sound and gameplay."

Every time I see an Edge review posted, it's always an 8. Is there review scale just the #8? Haha.

Looks awesome, glad to see it get good reviews! Can't wait.

Flower was an amazing game and will anways be special to me and I'm sure that this will be unforgettable too.

I played Flower the weekend my 14yr old dog passed away. I was a mess while playing it. It was something I'll never forget. Happy tears.
Really not fair for me to expect it to effect me like flower.

Sucks that I won't be able to experience this for a while because I don't have access to a PS3 right now.

Anyone else getting the vibe that this might be one of those cases where it ends up with a slight negative backlash down the road due to hyperbole it received at release?
I loved Flower and Flow, but I do think these scores are a tad bit silly. Way too many 10/10 and 5/5 here in my opinion.
10/10, shut up and take my money, here is my first born, etc...

I got shut down quick. :P

Putting crap like that in a review just makes me not want to read it at all. Terrible. Though if you were intending to be unprofessional, I guess that gets the point across.

Awww damnit, I didn't want to see that! That sort of thing should be unveiled to the player over the course of his/her playthrough; not posted as a gif on a gaming forum.

Jeez, what an eejit.

I already regret watching the IGN video review because it spoiled that glorious section.

Didn't need to see it again in gif form.

Was definately going to get this just based on their previous titles, but it's nice to see such recognition generally for the title.

I can understand people having to budget and think carefully what they chose to buy, but I'll never get the whole x time = y value arguement.

Value is relative to the experience surely - not duration?

Day fucking one. I absolutely loved Flower and I'm sure I will love this too. Price means little to me when I see this as being an amazing experience. I really hope they continue to make games for Playstation systems after this.

"Without words, it promises to touch anyone that experiences it. Even watching someone else play leaves you gripped by the events on screen."

hyperbole alert

Yep. And, to boot, this seems like an experience worth replaying. I'm sure I played through the beta at least 4 times. It's gonna be $15 well spent.

I guess I should wait until I play the game to be sure (man I wish I'd be on the beta - or maybe I don't) but with the online element I don't see why in principle this should be seen as having any less value or replayability than some MP maps for a FPS - in both cases the environment remains the same and it's only the presence of other online players that supplies variability.

So long as the experience is rewarding you'll want to have it again multiple times.

Anyway - roll on release day so I can finally play this.

man I wish I'd be on the beta - or maybe I don't

Since it was essentially just the opening 30 minutes or so, it really felt more like early access, rather than something that would ruin the full game. I think it was easily worthwhile. Although, it sure made the wait tough.

Shit, almost got ruined even after Bloodrage edited his post. All I saw was some orange and stuff moving in a sidescroller-like fashion. FUCK IT I'M OUT!

I watched the GT review earlier and it is indeed a spoiler-fest in terms of environments. Just made me want to experience the game that much more, though. Truly gorgeous and dream world type stuff going on.

I just checked like 8 reviews at random and none of them said whether or not there is local co-op. I assume there is not?

You just ruined a great part of the game for people.

Dude you spoiled the amount of levels in this game on the first page...I should have never entered this thread...so weak. As for that .gif, I saw a small portion of it on the bottom of my screen and scrolled like fuck away. Not sure how people can stop and stare at it if they are on a media blackout. Just dont look /simpsons

Sometimes, GAF is weiiiiird, man. So many of them go on media-blackouts, then enter topics where we discuss, ya know, THE MEDIA.

Don't click on the goddamn thread, guys! Not that hard! If you're on a media blackout, you shouldn't even think twice about clicking on this thread.
