Journey Reviews Thread

Wow, some nice reviews there. Only March and it already looks like the downloadable GOTY has been released. Given I'm still playing Dark Souls and about to pick up Binary Domain a two or three hour "interactive poem" seems just the right length.

Typical Sony.Rather than buying a trully talented dev they give instead millions of dollars to buy mediocre studios like Sucker Punch.
That implies they wanted to be bought, or that Sony wanted to buy them, both things might not be true. For all we know they pitched their next game to Sony and Sony declined.

I don't know why people are so eager for any independent talent to be swallowed up by a publisher.
you're a bad person.

I don't think so, my mother said I was special.

SP was a good buy. Opinions.

But almost all of those $60 short games have some sort of replay value. Either co-op or multiplayer modes.

I see the potential for replay value in Journey. It looks like something I will come back to at least a handful of times, if not more. The co-op is there as well. It's slightly shorter than Twisted Metal, SSX etc... which are full price $65 games. I'd take Journey over those two any day, and at a fraction of the price too.

I have played through Journey twice alone and once with a partner.

I still haven't found everything the game has to offer :)

Awesome stuff. I had no interest in Flow or Flower, but Journey is truly stunning. Still kinda unsure about how substantial puzzles are and stuff, but just looking at IGN's video review.....daaaammmmmnnnn.

Short length isn't much of a problem for me. Mirror's Edge was short, but totally fun. Short but consistently fun games are better than long games that are padded and drag anyway (ugh, Zelda). I'm good just as long as it's something I'd want to replay. And if the game is good, then it will be.

I see the "too expensive for x many hours" people have arrived. I really fail to see how a 2 to 3 hour long amazing experience would be too expensive at $15. With that kind of mindset I doubt the game would be for you in the first place.

sucker punch has made more money for sony than thatgamecompany will ever will.

They are not a company worth buying in my opinion.

Because as anddo0 also said, exclusivity can bring better results (not always though),because the studios are more focused and they are getting extra technical help from the platform publisher to explore the hardware capabilities even more.

I hope they release the OST for Journey soon after launch, I've listened to the music in the trailer more than I care to admit.

It costs way too much for a 3 hour game in my opinion

Seems it's about the 'Journey', not about getting there. Meaning you'll probably go back to it. And as the best experience seems to be about having another human along, putting two creative creatures together and giving them a toy is always a source of 'new'.

What I mean to say is that you'll never play through exactly the same 3 hours over and over again.

Maybe thatgamecompany didn't want to be bought. Just take a look at Insomniac. They didn't want to be bought. For all we know, Sony may have offered to buy the studio and they refused.

Sony already tried buying thatgamecompany from what I remember and they were told tgc wasn't for sale.

They are a company you like to smear though.

Like LiMBO, $15 for a 3 hour game is acceptable imo, provided it's enjoyable.

However, seeing 1.5 and 2 hours being thrown around is a little concerning!

Is the co-op local also, or just online?

Put me on the list also of those who would buy a 3-pack thatgamecompany disc, even though i already have 2 digitally, soon to be 3.

Just saw, not watched review on GT and my heart stopped as I was turning ps3 quickly just to discover that it will be out in two weeks :(

Online only. The anonymous traveler concept would be lost locally, also split screen would be detrimental to the game.

2-3 hours is kinda :( And at $15 it asking a lot.

That being said, it looks totally worth. I'm sure it will inspire multiple playthroughs, thus making the it's length irrelevant.

Surprising coming from someone with an ICO avatar, that game is a handful of hours max and was a full retail release. Worth the price? Of course it was.

Dammit, I want to read all these great reviews, but I'm deathly afraid of spoilers. I already got a glance this morning of the aesthetic from later in the game and that was too much.

Should you buy this game? YES.

WHY: Journey is a gorgeous, meditative game that combines disciplined design, cutting-edge technology and beautiful art into something remarkable and moving.

My Two Least-Favorite Things
Trying to avoid using overwrought language when writing about it, failing. [lol]

The majority of spoilery stuff wasn't allowed to be in reviews at the request of sony. thatgamecompany wants the players to explore and be surprised when they play.

I know it won't be too bad, but what little I've read from the couple reviews I glanced at already convinced me I need to go in absolutely clean. Anything discussed beyond the beta's confines is more than I'm willing to bear :(
